Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.
Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.
In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

I give it an EASY install rating; providing that you have basic mechanical skills. Watch the video for install and you will have an easy time installing it. I think it took me an hour to install it. I did it by myself using RV leveling blocks to raise the rear end a few inches, and chocks to keep the vehicle from rolling. I also used jack stands to hold the receiver up while I installed the washers and nuts. After torquing the nuts down, I raised the exhaust by tightening the rachet strap. I then reattached the exhaust and I was done. I was able to open the tailgate with my foot once, but I haven't been able to figure out what I did to make it open. That tailgate has always been temperamental. Unfortunately, I had just gotten the hang of opening it before the receiver install. I'll have to figure it out again. LOL I did not have any exhaust clearance issues, as I read in the reviews. I did have to press the receiver against the heat shield a bit but that wasn't an issue (basic mechanical skills). We used to tow our 8.5K Lb truck but now we tow this vehicle behind our class A RV. The Escape does not come with a receiver and we needed the ball hitch to tow our tote to the sewer dump when we visit state parks. Most state parks don't have sewer and we prefer to shower in our rig. Being able to dump our grey wayer without tearing down and driving the coach to the dump station is essential.
