Hidden Cross Tube for a Clean, Factory Look

The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. The hitch's cross tube bolts onto your vehicle's frame, behind your rear bumper. No drilling or welding is required. Once the hitch is installed, only the receiver will be visible beneath your bumper. This means that your vehicle can maintain its stylish, from-the-factory look, and you won't have to do any major modifications to its body or frame.

Eco-Friendly Material

With a combination of aerospace-grade aluminum, steel, and stainless steel, each EcoHitch is made of a strong metal alloy that will withstand the test of time. The lightweight alloy is composed of recycled materials. Traditional steel hitch manufacturing can use coal or oil, which can contribute to harmful gas emissions. The EcoHitch's recycled materials limit the carbon footprint during manufacturing, so you get a sturdy trailer hitch while also helping the environment.

Rigorous Strength Testing Ensures Durability

This EcoHitch trailer hitch is tested for durability and sturdiness. Using Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA), individual points of stress on the hitch can be detected and remedied. Designers can accurately test the hitch to ensure that it will meet or exceed SAE J684 standards. The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is carefully researched and strength tested for a durable, high-quality hitch that can resist damage while on the road.

First of all, it's no joke that they meant it will take 2+ hours for the installation. My took 3 hours to be exact, I am grateful for the video instruction. Because the paper version is in B/W, so it's hard to make out what the picture is pointed to. And it would be great the instruction can include an exact measurement of where to cut on the bumper, and not just find a mid point to mark. But all in all, it was a great buy and everything fits like a glove and it is solid like a rock. Have not had time to test the hitch with load yet, but I'm pretty sure it will handle the job with ease.

This was a relatively easy install. The installation video is outstanding and makes it easy to follow along. My neighbor has a special tool to help remove the rubber exhaust hangers that makes the job easier. One small problem was trying to torque the downward facing 1/2” nuts to 75 ft-lbs; the bolts kept turning. I used an electric impact wrench to get it tight. I also used a high temperature clear spray paint to coat the bolts to reduce corrosion.

It has been a solid receiver it does shows some rust around the welds I don’t know why but will see in the long run,the manufacturer doesn’t include important info as the receiver has degrees to compensate for off roading so when you mount your bike don’t expect to be completely straight flat. It tends to lean towards the back glass and if you add a swing arm it’ll be more noticeable(Yakima hold up evo and the Yakima swing arm) due to the fact that Yakima also tend to compensate and prevent dragging whatever you attached to it. I don’t know what it was but the Yakima hold up whenever I’ve installed on my Tacoma it hold quiet and solid but on the eco hitch tends to be a tad loose and tend to rock up and down even do the knob is tighten as it was on my Tacoma. I’ve ended up changing my rack with different brand and that seems to fix the tilting issue but otherwise I’m good with the hitch. Should I be concerned with that rusty spot?

Comments
Thank you for your review. In order to prevent the rust from spreading I do recommend to lightly sand it with a fine grit sand paper and spray the spot with a rustoleum type of paint. This will cover the spot and prevent any further rusting.

This is an awesome hitch that fit my 2021 Forester perfectly. Doing the install by myself it took less than 2 hours from start to finish, including adding the wiring harness. The installation videos were a tremendous help!! The only issue I had was that the measurements for the fascia cutout are too small and adjustments had to be made. I did do one thing differently during installation. Because I was working off of 7 1/2" high ramps I removed the muffler rather than dropping the exhaust system as described in the video. Being a virtually new car it was a simple matter to drop the muffler and get it completely out of the way for removing the heat shield. Thanks etrailer!!

I have used e-trailer many times. As always extremely satisfied with this company!!!! You will not find another company with the kind of support for every product they sell(install videos)….I put this eco hitch on my 21’ Subaru Forester and wiring kit(took 2 hours just using ramps in driveway). Oh and did I mention quick delivery to boot. I don’t know why you would buy trailer hitches or trailer wiring anywhere else.

I watched all the videos and read the reviews and thought, would etrailer learn from their mistakes and better pack the hitch? The answer, sadly, is No. The item arrived with the arms sticking out of the box probably banging all through the trip from warehouse to my door. etrailer-you really should pack this better. Guaranteed there will be rust spots from all the abuse from the delivery of the hitch. Next: the makers of the Ecohitch needs to provide larger washers…the hole is much larger than the washers provided and the lock washers just gets smashed and move when torqued to the specs. See attached photos. In the end, I liked the way the hitch is hidden and how heavy it is and I like those two aspects of this hitch.

Excellent hitch. Goes in really easy particularly when not only reading the instructions but, more importantly, watching the video (done by Ryan) and pausing while you do the install. Received it yesterday and installed it today in under 2 hours (took my time plus had to go to the tool shed a couple of times). This looks great with the factory look. Received it in under 2 weeks from time of ordering.

Working like a charm! Perfect for the heavy duty bike rake. With the hole cover, you barely know its there when not in use.

I love the look of this hitch. The crossbar isn’t visible when mounted to car. I was able to install it myself without any major hiccups. It took me roughly 4-5 hours total to complete. I started at night and finished up in morning. Most of this time was spent going slow making sure I didn’t cause any damage to the car. There are a couple of good YouTube videos showing how to install this hitch on the 2019 Forester. I would definitely recommend watching the videos before attempting this on your own unless you have good experience these kind of projects. The instructions were decent but the videos made some of the steps more clear. I plan to use this with a Thule bike rack. So far so good!

This is my 3rd hitch for a Subaru. My 2nd for a Subaru Forester in particular. My previous hitches were your standard round tube hitches that sit underneath the car. Once your install is completed, you're going to have a factory looking hitch that sits noticeably higher than a round tube hitch. This extra ground clearance will come in handy when your Forester is loaded down. All I can say is, this EcoHitch ROCKS!! It's beautiful and was easy to install, well I guess that's relative. Yesterday with bikes on the back, it didn't bottom out on a driveway spot my Curt hitch on my 2018 Forester used to bottom out on. That little extra ground clearance does come in handy. A few quick notes about my particular install that may help someone. If you follow these simple recommendations, I think your install will be a lot easier. - Watch the "Torklift Ecohitch Install 2019 Subaru Forester Sport" install video on YouTube by a user named Lucrativesoldier - Spend $8 and get a plastic fastener remover - Use ramps if you have them. It makes it so easy to get underneath the car. Of course, use car stands for additional safety. - Remove the muffler. It's not on the instructions but it's only 2 - 14mm nuts and bolts and gives you a LOT more room to work with. Oh and trim the heat shield before putting it back on. It's the last thing noted on the instructions which make easy to miss. - My install took a little over 3 hours at a very moderate pace and even taking a brief break. P.S. I'm using my hitch for a Thule XT 2 Pro bike rack. I was a bit concerned that the receiver tube wasn't long enough but it's 4" and no issues with the Thule rack.

This hitch is perfect fit for my 2019 Forester Sport. The only part that made me nervous was cutting my existing bumper fascia. Just make sure you measure twice before making your cuts and you’ll be fine. The included instructions with this hitch are EXCELLENT and include PHOTOS. My only modification to the included instructions would be to disconnected the muffler from the exhaust line in order to remove it from the hangers. Saved me a lot of hassle. Loving the look of the final install. The end result, if done correctly, is a hitch that looks like it came installed from the factory.

This was installed on a 2019 Subaru Forester. It was pretty simple, just normal "work" to take the bumper off and such. The install went smooth, with a very minor issue. As I recall the vehicle wiring was not where the instructions called out, but it was actually easier in the location it was. We have used this several times for our 4 position bike rack with no issues. I have even had another Subaru owner stop and ask where I got it because he thought it was factory installed but he knew Subaru did not offer a 2" hitch. I would certainly recommend this to anyone that wants a nice attractive hitch on their Subaru!

Nice hitch however the installation was not as expected. I based my purchase off of the install video that was made by the manufacturer "TORKLIFT". From the video it appeared to be much easier to install when compared to the cheaper hitch options out there. However I found the video to be inaccurate. When I received the hitch I read through the instructions and quickly found that all the installation procedures I wanted to avoid from the cheaper hitches applied to this one as well. Yes you still need to drop the exhaust system, remove and cut the heat shield and fish hardware through the frame. The etrailer website DOES note these items, however I assumed they were carried over from other hitches and didn't apply since the video didn't show it. Assuming was my mistake. Aside from the surprise of having to do the extra work, the installation went pretty smooth with only a few hiccups. First off the 1/2" bolt that has to be fished through the frame comes with a flat washer and a star washer. The instructions are not very clear on how they should be arranged. Should the star washer be under the bolt head or between the flat washer and the frame? I tried both ways and found that neither held the bolt from turning. I had to reach in through the frame rail with a wrench and hold the bolt head so I could torque the nut. My 3/4" wrench was just long enough. Next item is the cut out in the bumper. I took my time and made sure I was on the right side of the bumper and the cutout was as they required. When I went to re-install the bumper my location was good, however the cutout was quite undersized. I had to remove the bumper again and enlarge the cutout. I then re-installed, found that it needed a little more trimming, took it back off, cut it and finally installed it for the last time. Not hard, but I just wish the cutout was correct and I could of done it right the first time. Lastly and this is just a note and not an issue. The hardware for the hitch uses split lock washers. Normally when split lock washers are used, a bolt is not torqued. Typically its one or the other, either use a lock washer and tighten the bolt until its fully compressed or don't use a lock washer and torque the bolt. When I reached the required torque the lock washer was mostly smashed and not really doing much anymore. Another note, I needed an impact to get the existing cross member bolts loose. They were very tight from the factory. A breaker bar could of done it but a plain old ratchet wasn't up to the task without a ton of effort. Overall nice quality bumper and I'm mostly satisfied with the purchase. I wish it had been cheaper, I really only spent the extra $120 for the "hidden" hitch because I thought it would be easier to install. If you're not dead set on the "hidden" feature then the cheaper hitches are just as good and take the same amount of effort, plus you won't have to cut your bumper.

Easy install! The hitch does block my factory tow point so that's a minus, however i have one on the front that is usable so it's not a deal breaker. The install instructions were very helpful and i hit no snags putting this all together. I suggest it for a 2019 Forester! 5 stars!

  • Difference Between EcoHitch, Curt and Draw-Tite 2 Inch Hitches for 2020 Subaru Forester
What sets the EcoHitch # 306-X7391 receiver apart from the other two options is that it's going to be completely hidden behind your bumper. The only portion that is visible is the 2 inch square receiver. So, if looks are important to you, this is the best option to retain the OEM look of your Forester. EcoHitches are made in the USA and are constructed of recycled aluminum, steel and stainless steel, making them slightly lighter and more eco-friendly. The Curt # C13409 is assembled in...
