Matte black, powder coated steel is durable and corrosion resistant and creates a rugged look.I chose the etrailer hitch for my 2018 Honda CRV because I preferred the matte finish and I wanted to support the company products. This website is great! Very organized and easy to navigate. The company videos and photos are very helpful, and the customer photos and reviews are good guides too. Ordering was easy and the shipping was quick. I like that you show/credit your employees fulfilling the order. The project time estimates seem a bit short for the first-time installation, but overall they are reasonable. The main reason it took me longer was because I installed the hitch alone. A few hints: 1. Read and understand all directions (including NOT pulling off the fish wires until AFTER the hitch is in place) 2. If you are installing the hitch alone placing the large bolt through the tow hook first will help hold the hitch while you screw around lining everything up. 3. Double check the measurements before cutting the facia as there were minor variations between what is published and what I saw on my vehicle. Overall, I'm impressed with the products and support from etrailer.com!
I had high hopes for etrailer based on the pictures and stories on the page for this model e98848. As soon as I pulled out the hitch I noticed lots or topical damage to the matte finish which I was surprised to see as the box was not damaged when it arrived. These were in places that if you dropped it in any fashion those areas would not be scraped like that. The hitch opening itself was scraped up too. As I was finally getting close to the end it became apparent that this was defective and one of the sides that connects to the frame was bent in significantly. One side near the exhaust was flush and the other must have been off by a quarter inch or more. This one was either repackaged or was just poor quality control. This thickness of steel does not bend out to squeeze it in. Project failed and hours wasted. If they send a replacement, I get to enjoy this process at least one more time.
The hitch fit very well when I installed it and the instructions were clear. So far we’ve used the hitch primarily for a bike rack and it has performed well. We haven’t done towing yet, but expect it will do well up to the load limit posted on the hitch.
Ernie - 04/16/2022The hitch for our 2020 Honda CRV fit perfect and after watching the video I installed it in about an hour and 15 minutes. Video and tools required for install were very helpful in pre-planning for the job. Very satisfied with etrailer hitch.
Gary - 06/28/2021I'm really satisfied with this hitch purchase. It fit my 2020 CRV perfectly and my son in law and I installed it ourselves in my driveway with the car backed up on a set of ramps. We're not pro mechanics, but are familiar with tools and mechanical repairs, and we took our time to be sure we followed the directions so it took us about 90 minutes. Not difficult but it was a two-person job, clear instructions, and the spring-wires used to feed the bolts into position worked as advertised.
Hitch delivered yesterday as scheduled and I finished installation this morning. The video installation instructions at etrailer extremely helpful . My CRV has only one muffler, so it was that much easier. I went ahead and pretrimmed the under body panel and that I think also made the installation easier. Didn’t have a hoist, so I blocked up the rear about 4 1/2 inches and that was enough. Even had my wife helped me slip the hitch in place and hold it while I fastened the nuts without yelling at each other. Be careful when remounting the rear muffler hanger as there are some sharp edges. Probably took me more than an hour, but that included gathering tools and blocking up the vehicle.
Kenneth - 02/15/2020Works good. This went on a hybrid CR-V and the lower panel won’t fit in its present state. Need instructions on cutting to make it fit. Should be able to make cover fit.
Have really enjoyed being a customer of etrailer. Their [online] videos are key to give you DIY confidence Got this hitch and a rack earlier this week. Installed it today with my son. Took about 4 hours in the garage on the crv. All working well so far.

This is a very high quality hitch. Really like how the guts of the hitch are hidden from view on our Honda CRV. You do need 2 people to bolt it to the car, but all the other prep work can be done ahead of time by one person. Very satisfied with this purchase.
Not to be spiteful, but the item should have been packaged better. The hitch consequently arrived with a small chip in the matte finish on one corner of the receiver opening, which l touched up with black rust-oleum. Other than that, it's a worthy product!
Darrell - 03/24/2022The hitch looks great installed, and I’m glad I paid a little more for the matte finish. Two recommendations for future installs- 1) the black and white picture included on the printed instructions was too dark to tell where to trim the fascia (the reference point for the measurements wasn't clear) 2) there is a wiring harness mounted in the bumper trim piece that initially prevented the hitch from sliding into place. Once the harness was temporarily moved out of place the hitch slid perfectly into place. Great, sturdy hitch!
I ordered it on April 8th and was delivered on the 16th. We have it installed in our Honda crv 2020. We haven't tried it yet as we are still waiting for the Kuat 4bike rack.It is really hidden, the guy still have to cut a part of the plastic bumper so it will be placed back again.
This was a replacement for an identical item. The first product arrived very late (many weeks) deeply scratched and missing several bits of hardware. I left a negative review. etrailer reached out and offered me a 5% discount on my next order. Round two and the receiver hitch arrived much faster, with all of it's hardware. That's the good news. The bad news is that on of the bolt "wings" that connect the receiver to the frame was both welded crooked and bent. I had to put it in a vice and bend it over an inch to remove both bend and twist. So frustrated with this company.

Product arrived damaged. [installer] had already prepared the vehicle for install so they straightend the hitch and installed it. Installation time was an hour and 15 vs the 30 min described in the Literature. Otherwise quality of hitch appears to be very good. No damage on the packaging so I don't know if this could be attributed to the freight carrier.

Purchased a etrailer hitch for my 2019 Honda CRV and it fit perfectly. The online installation instructions was the selling Point for buying this hitch. Also this hitch was very well made.
This E98848 does fit a 2020 Honda CRV Hybrid even though the description says it doesn't it fits very well I purchased this item to fit a bike rack carrier.This hitch looks very good clean finish and good quality. When I asked etrailer customer service which hitch would fit they told me a more expensive hitch at $300 would fit.Im glad this hitch fit at a great price.
So Honda wanted to charge me hundreds of $$$ for a hitch for my CRV, and then they wouldn't even do a 2" receiver. So for a fraction of the price of Honda, I got this one from etrailer and did the install myself and can now interchange my rack between different vehicles all running 2" receivers. The install was a little tricky but nothing too difficult with clear instructions provided. And the hitch is really sturdy and I like how it is hidden behind the rear bumper with only the receiver hanging below the bumper.
Its been a year since I installed my trailer hitch on my Honda CR-V. I use it to take my bikes to various trails around my state of Maryland. The video was of particular help in the installation process. I used a friend to help and it assembled very well, a little tricky but went smoothly with an extra set of hands.
Fit was perfect and installation was mostly uneventful. Looks good. Instructions could be a little bigger print is the only issue I have
Perfect for my 2019 Honda CR-V. Had it professionally installed for $100 and use it for a bike rack. I like the way only the receiver shows.
