Matte black, powder coated steel is durable and corrosion resistant and creates a rugged look.Took me only an hour to install. The four washer/spacers/shims were difficult to get aligned with the bolt holes.
The right side brackets was bent, probably during shipment. I did get it bent back in place. Took a large bench vice and some leverage to get bracket back in its original position.
Other than these 2 issues, this install was a clean and neat project for the 2009 Toyota Tacoma.

One year follow-up: The product works as advertised. No problems at all over the last year. Installation was simple and straight forward. You can install this by yourself; however, I recommend you get and extra set of hands. One person to hold the hitch level while do a final tightening of the mounting bolts. Overall I'm very happy with the product.

I’m 59 yo, it was 98 degrees out today, and I finished in a couple hours with the help of a floor jack. I would absolutely recommend an extra set of hands and a lift if available. The look, strength, and quality of the hitch look good. The two end plates arrived bent. The two end plates also did not seem to be clocked to the same position. I could not start all of the bolts unless I left them all quite loose. Even so, some of the bolts drug on the sides of the factory holes in the hitch. Spacers between the bumper and the bumper bracket were too small to position easily, especially for the two rearmost bolts. I had to hang the spacer from a fine wire to position it so I could start the bolts. Although I had all of the tools that were shown on the installation video the installation proved challenging.
Mike L - 09/26/2022Product excellent! Customer service excellent! What they don't tell you is the hitch might appear to be too small because the end of the brackets can bend inwards which means it won't fit until you find a way to bend them back out to the proper width. This is not impossible (they explain it all in the FAQ's on their web site,) but it's a pain and something you really shouldn't have to do. I believe it came from the factory in this condition because the packaging was pristine when the hitch arrived. The manufacturer could easily solve this problem by putting a rod between the two bracket ends to maintain the correct width.
This is the only reason I gave a 2 star instead of a 5 star rating.

etrailer sent the wrong hitch which I did no discover for a couple of weeks when I was ready to install. A single brief, friendly call solved the problem and I had the correct hitch in a few days. The hitch fit perfectly and is quite stout.
Everyone makes mistakes, but few companies deal well with them. Many others could take customer service lessons from etrailer.
Installed on my Tacoma. No alterations or adaptation needed. Correct hardware included.
I watched the videos before installing which made it super simple. I was able to install by myself with the help of a floor jack, but a set of helping hands would do wonders!
It works well and is very sturdy. I wish there was a place for the 4 pin connector to be attached to!
Jenny N - 10/03/2022This was less money so I got it being that it was rated for the same towing and weight as the other hitches .
The instructions and hardware that all came in the box were on point . The ears were slightly bent inward and I was told by customer service that it’s normal - the steel needs to flex with the truck or it would break . I don’t know about trucks flexing but when the customer service agent told me - bend it out and if you ruin it ... we have your back and will send a new one out right away .... man , I bent it with my floor Jack and a pipe ... took like 10 minutes for me to cut a pipe and get the Jack and hitch lined up all by myself ... once that was done man this thing fell into place ! All good , easy as a bolt on part can be . I have no lift ... I installed it alone laying on my back in my garage so it’s possible for sure for anyone to do if you have some mechanical skills . A partner would have been awesome .... but it’s done and I’m happy with the hitch . The bracket that braces the receiver is a rectangle steel plate . I am not happy with the sharp corners on that plate , so I’ll be just barely hitting them with a file and some touch up paint or something to protect the steel . No big deal at all .
The fact that I had to bend it and file it are the only reasons it got 1 less star . As for how it works towing , I should be towing at some point soon so I can update . I would buy this again for sure at this point .
Scott - 01/03/2022 Scott - 01/03/2022Had to really work to get the one side straightened out enough to fit onto my frame. Plenty of cuss words and bloody knuckles but it finally fit. 100% bent on delivery. This steel is strong enough that it wouldn’t “flex” during shipment. Likely a production line issue.
Overall the product was fairly straight forward to install and is very sturdy. I give the Hitch 4-stars because I struggled to actually get the last of 4 bolts to bolt to the frame. I am not entirely sure that it was slightly misaligned or that that the bolting one side causes the hitch to sit a little lower on the opposite side until all bolts are tightened up. Overall a great hitch for the Tacoma. I have towed slightly more than the Tacoma is supposed to tow on a utility trailer without problems.
Correct fit from my Toyota Tacoma zero issues, quality hitch and parts. I have purchased two hitches and related wiring from etrailer and like getting my parts from them. There order process and support are top notch so I like buying from them.
Good product. Had to flex the hitch to get the bolt holes to line up. Customer support suggested that to me.

Hitch was mostly an easy install. Did it myself, took a little maneuvering, but no problems.
Perfect fit, able to install by myself by supporting the trailer hitch receiver with a jack and blocking. My only trouble was loosening the old rusty mounting bolts on my 10 year old salt-encrusted truck
Got this hitch a year ago to mount a hitch-mounted bike rack on the back of my pickup - installation was very easy, and the hitch continues to be in excellent shape.
This is a great product that was super easy to install. I had it wired up in less than an hour. Anyone could install this wiring harness.
