The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

Durable matte finish resists rust and creates a rugged look.Excellent product, poor installation instructions. I have included the photo of the part that had to be removed before I could install the hitch - despite emailing prior to purchase to ensure an exact fit, there was no instruction to remove that part. Once that part was removed, fit was perfect. No need to temporarily remove exhaust, despite recommendation in directions. The vehicle is brand new, Rubicon 4xe. I will only use the hitch for a bike or luggage carrier, but it is heavy duty and would handle more that the Jeeps towing capacity
I contacted etrailer in advance of buying the items needed to add a trailer hitch to my 2021 Wrangler unlimited Sahara. I was assured everything would bolt right up, and the wiring kit was made specifically for my new jeep. When I received my hitch, the hitch would not bolt up because there was a bracket that interfered with the ability to bolt it on. I alos had issues with the wiring harness and I ended up having to hire a shop to facilitate the install and spent over $200 for the install to modify the hitch and bracket due to the difference between the items, instructions, and my Jeep. I wouldn’t be so frustrated except I took the time to reach out to etrailer staff and I was assured there would no problems. In addition, the powder coating could be better, and there were rub spots on the hitch from transport. I had to repaint the hitch due to bare rub spots because I wanted it look right and not rust. In addition, the trailer safety chain hooks do not slide on right because the space between the chain anchor holes were too wide. Overall not very happy! :(
Installation was a breeze, able to do it in my driveway with the jeep at ground level. I did have to buy a 3/4" socket with 3/4" drive since I could not fit my 3/4" torque wrench in there with an adapter.
I needed a hitch receiver that would fit my 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK and extend far enough that I could use by Kuat Sherpa 2.0 platform bike rack and clear the spare tire. This hitch worked perfectly and was an easy install.
Not good
Two of the four holes used to bolt the hitch on were already being used to hold a support on. After removing these bolts the support they were holding had to be pried out of the way to make room for the hitch.
The eight holes in the hitch all had to be drawn 3/16 of an inch for the bolts to pass through. What should have been twenty minutes turned into four hours.
This product is perfect for my needs. I just need to haul my bikes around with a bike rack that was attached to my truck and possibly for a basket carrier on extended trips. It can handle more than enough weight if I eventually get a small trailer. I like that it is extended to be more flush with my back bumper. The matte finish matches my bumper nicely. It is just perfect for my needs and has multiple potential uses on my Jeep Wrangler. I love my Jeep.
I think I like it but I have run into an issue during installation. The welding at the top of the cross bar that the product attaches to sticks out and stops the Hitch Receiver from fully engaging. I need to grind the welding down so the hitch will fit. This does not appear to be an etrailer issue but a Jeep issue unless all Jeeps have this welding style. Have others had this issue and how did they solve it?
Nice straight-forward installation videos helped to be sure I was getting everything right. Quality product that has worked great for over a year and counting. 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.
Overall excellent product. Heavy duty, nicely finished and top-notch hardware. Instructions need updating. There are supposed to be 4-holes in the Jeep frame to mount this hitch. There are, but 2-are used by the bumper plate. Had to figure it out myself. Removed the 2-bolts, spread the plate away from the frame to allow the hitch to slide up over the frame. After that, no problem.
This is a fairly straight forward install. It does recommend removing or dropping muffler. I could not get mine loose so I had to remove the outside rubber bumper fascia in order to bolt in from other direction. Also had to enlarge one of the factory holes as instructions said I might.
Hitch is heavy duty for what it is and should be fine for bike rack.
Took about 1.5 hrs to install and I was taking my time.
Once I figured out the alignment of the bolts it was simple. The 2018 JL has two bolts and a bracket that are already there. U loosen, slide the hitch between the bracket. I reused the 2 stock bolts and used the 2 new bolts. Looks great! Total time for install about 40 mins with torque n the bolts. Havent used it yet but will let u know if there are any issues.
Perfect. Great product. Super fast delivery, and great tracking. Nice snug fit on 2021 2 door Wrangler. A little grease on the sides, push it on, line up the holes, 4 bolts and done. 15 minute install.
perfect fit, easy install, had it done in about 20 minutes.
Thus hitch does NOT work on a 2021 Wrangler Rubicon. The DEF tank prevents installation unless the hitch is modified. Cutting two areas of the hitch with a plasma cutter will make it fit. I specifically asked if this fit the Diesel model before I ordered it. Wasnt happy when I tried to install,
Very straightforward to attach on my jeep wrangler and works great for my bike rack needs!
Like mentioned in previous posts, on my 2019 Moab, the two outer bolt holes have an L bracket attached already. The nuts are welded onto that bracket so no need to put a wrench on those. Slip the hitch between the steel and that bracket using the same two bolts (18mm) you just removed as well as two bolts and nuts supplied (3/4”) for the inner holes. Once again as mentioned by others, I didn’t need to move the muffler and the rubber mallet worked great to tap the hitch to line everything up perfectly.
Love the matte finish. Great quality.
My only complaint is the item was too heavy for the type of box it was shipped in. It almost busted through the box. Needs packing material. The hitch itself is excellent and relatively easy to install.
The hitch appears to be very well constructed of heavy gauge steel. I expect it'll easily last the life of my new JL Wrangler Sahara Unlimited.
Having installed one of these on each of my previous two JK Wrangler Sahara Unlimiteds I expected this installation to take only 15-20 minutes as well. Despite what I saw on-line this one took quite a bit longer.
First off I found no reason to lower or move the muffler. There's adequate room to work around it. Second I found there are two 1/2 inch bolts holding the rear bumper cover in place. Remove and save them. The nuts for them are welded to the rear bumper cover support bracket and the thread on the new bolts supplied with the hitch do not match so you'll reuse the bolts along with two of the new bolts.
Next I found that applying grease all over the inside of the hitch made sliding it into place far easier and perhaps prevents future rust. Now the fun part. You'll want a rubber mallet to get the hitch into position. Thankfully the powder coating is tough because it took a lot of 'adjusting' to properly align the hitch to get the bolts through. You'll whack it left to right as well as up and down on the receiver portion to get things lined up. Be patient - the fit is snug. Note that you'll slip the hitch between the frame member and the bumper cover bracket. A small pry bar was helpful.
Suggestion - be sure to two outer (original) bolts are in place and lightly tightened before installing the two center (new ) bolts. I used all four of the supplied washers. It ultimately worked out fine.
Next the wiring harness...
So quality of the product is great for the price. However, I'm one of the unfortunate ones for which install took way longer than I expected (this is the 3rd hitch I've installed from etrailer, all different types). Main issue I encountered was issue with the jeep metal bracket that attaches the bumper to the frame. This isn't in the etrailer videos but I knew it would be a potential issue from other reviews folks left for 2021 wrangler. Long-story short, bolts were over-torqued at Jeep factory and I had heck of a time getting one of them off (would have helped if I realized right away it was in mm and not SAE, ugh cheeks bright red in embarrassment) - that is my fault, not etrailer.
Other issue which probably tripled my install time is that once you've got the hitch pushed in so that it wraps around the bumper bracket (easy enough with rubber mallet, putting the bolts back through the frame (the jeep bumper bracket has welded nuts for the outside bolts), it was really tricky to line everything up so that you can re-thread the two outside bolts back through the hitch, frame, and jeep bumper bracket (bracket has welded nuts for the outside bolts that you have to use). I finally was able to manually bend the bracket somewhat to get this to all work.
Once installed it was great. Plenty of room underneath the jeep without a lift, hitch was not too heavy so didn't need a jack or anything to support the weight while tapping it around the bumper/frame.
I used it just fine with bike carrier, but, be warned, I still had to remove spare tire for the Yakima carrier despite the extended length of this hitch. Just needed 2 more inches. I should have measured first and ordered a 2" extension at the same time. Live and learn.
Took me longer to find my 3/4 socket than it did to install this. Everything lined up perfectly and product seems very sturdy and well made!
Much like the rest of the reviews, I had some issues getting it installed as I had to wedge it in between the bar and the bumper brace. But once I got it in there, and was able to finally get the last 2 bolts in (tough with the muffler), I was more than happy with the purchase. Full disclosure, I am NOT handy, and was able to get this on my 2021 Wrangler 4dr. And now that it's on there, IT'S ON THERE, and shouldn't be going anywhere. Good purchase
This is trailer hitch is perfect and constructed well.
And, Made in America!!!!
Install was a little tricky since you need to lower the exhaust, but it has been rock solid for over a year!
Perfect fit, easy installation
