Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

So far so good. Took approximately an hour to install, including unpacking the hitch and cleaning out the weld nuts. While potentially possible to install on your own with strategically placed supports, it's more realistic to install with two people, even if one of them is just lifting, steadying, and holding the hitch in place while you do all the work. Everything lined up perfectly. Didn't even need to put the van up on ramps. Trimmed the plastic fascia on the driver side as shown in the video instructions and worked like a charm to reinstall.

Test fit our bike rack (which is our primary intended use) and everything fit snuggly. So far, very happy with the purchase.

Still very happy with the hitch. We use it for our bike rack and it handles the weight of 4 bikes plus the rack and still feels secure. No complaints. Wish I bought it earlier in the vans life!

Fit great on 2014 Honda Odyssey. Bolted up easily. The exhaust has enough flex to allow you to get to your socket and extension on that side so don’t bother removing it from the hanger. The fish wire worked awesome. Cool trick we use in aircraft maintenance also.

Installed on Honda minivan. Towed 18ft boat, 24ft trailer. Had to replace van's rear suspension but haven't found the limits of this hitch receiver yet!

This was an easy DIY install. The wiring was the best! No stripping wires, just plug and go.

etrailer was recommended to us by the bicycle shop where we were purchasing our bike rack. I checked online and sent a copy of the description of the hitch from the etrailer website to my mechanic and he said he was familiar with their products and yes, it would fit my Honda Odyssey perfectly. He installed it in about an hour and no welding was required; totally bolt on. I have been using it for about a year now and it is a perfect match for our rack. I saved several hundred dollars on the hitch and even more on the installation since it was so easy for the mechanic. Very happy with the product and service and would highly recommend etrailer

Were still very happy with this product. We use it often and have never had any issues whatsoever. Still highly recommend this trailer hitch.

2013 Honda Odyssey

Doing it by myself took a little longer but it went smoothly but his 66-year-old man was able to install the hitch single handed. I found the jack stand worked well to hold up the driver's side while I started the bolts on the passenger side.
I also had to make a second cut on the panel so it would fit around the hitch.
I was able to get it installed and it is ready to go.

2016 Honda Odyssey

I was very impressed with etrailer in nearly every facet. I ordered on a Sunday night and received my hitch Wednesday and it was installed same afternoon. Looks great, and seems to be very well made. I watched the etrailer installation video prior to beginning and it told me everything I needed to know. Very easy install.

However, not sure if it was UPS or the way it was packaged but the hitch looked like it’d been through war to get here. Thankfully as thick of metal as this is I don’t think it affects the integrity, but it was still disappointing.

I understand that disapointment. We generally recommend that you will want to cover up any scratches and/or chips with some sort of rust-o-leum type of paint. This will help prevent any corrosion forming on the hitch. You also should be eligible for a paint credit from us, let me get you over to our customer service department for them to look into that for you

Installed easily, fit perfectly and works as expected. I use it to hold a receiver hitch type bike rack, which I load up with over 100 lbs of e-bikes. No problems at all.

by:
2016 Honda Odyssey

Good sturdy and nicely finished Hitch Receiver. The Receiver was hanging out of the box it came in from UPS but no scratches or damage was noted. Instructions and video's were very helpful. I did have to perform some minor modifications where the hitch mounted onto the structural rails on the van to get it to mount flat when I torqued it down. The adjustments were made using a high speed cutting wheel. This could have been avoided if the outboard edges of the hitch had been chamfered along their edges but it was a minor annoyance as I didn't realize I needed to do this until I had a couple of bolts in after putting it up by myself.

super easy to install, have used it many times for hauling bikes. looks great and was easy, perfect fit, quick to install with minimal tools.

by:

This hitch was super easy to install, the videos online were extremely helpful when installing. Make sure that the weld nut threads are clean of rust and debris, as the two on the passenger side of mine were rusted and needed a lot of cleaning. Also putting a bolt in and threading in and out and cleaning with WD 40 helped for a much easier install. The hitch fits up nicely against the bottom of the bumper, there is no reason not to be pleased with this hitch. Great product!

My friend installed it in less than an hour. It fits perfectly on my minivan. I attach a heavy duty bike rack, which carries two e-bikes on it and it holds up. Attach and detach this bike rack three times a week with ease

2007 Honda Odyssey

Sturdy. Easy Peasy Installation.
I backed
my 2007 Honda Odyssey up onto my shop ramps, set the brake and began. I cut a "dead man" from a 2x4 about 23 1/2" overall, and used it to hold the driver-side up, while I worked the hitch over the tailpipe on the passenger side. The bolt holes were about 1/4" shy, so I used a camp hatchet to pry/spread so that the bolt holes lined up. I fished the spacer and carriage bolt with pure ease, and began the tightening all bolts. Total install time: 22 minutes. For this "less-than-shade tree mechanic", I was very pleased!

California to Florida and back!

Trailer
was everything we hoped for and more. It was extremely easy to install. Very sturdy and provided the space we needed for our Costco storage bins.

We added reflective tape for safety purposes and used straps to keep it all in place. I highly recommend this product.

by:

So easy to install. Everything lined up perfectly with no adjustments required. Shape is nice and looks good on the Odyssey. Had my dad help me, just because I enjoy doing stuff with him. It really is a one person install though. The whole procedure, down to the wire that pulls the carriage bolt through is very well engineered, and very well thought out. Easiest hitch install we've every done by far. Put a carrier in to see how the spacing is and it works perfectly.

by:

The trailer hitch is awesome. I installed on our 9 year old 2011 Honda Odyssey. Like mentioned in other reviews, I had to purchase a tap ($x from [Hardware store]) and used silicon lube, even though the holes looked clean. I just had to periodically spray the lube into the tap's channels and installation was easy. See photos. I tried without the tap and it was impossible.

by:

this is a gift and i wont know till after christmas if it fits. i only complaint was the shipping box was severly damaged by the shipper and i was worried the mounting hardware woud be missing because of the holes inn the box. thankfully the mounting hardware was taped to the reciever hole.. as per your review, i cannot successfully upload photos

Unit didn’t fit exactly. Angle of weld was off by just enough to require cutting out slot of 2nd bolt hole on one side.
Lucky I have those tools/skills or it would have been returned.
Crazy heavy duty unit but there is inches of room there to work with and the tolerances are obviously not tight enough. See pics. Other side was pushed to tolerance level (about 1”) and side shown was still not capable of bolts 2 and 3 to pass through. Had to grind out u hole to a ‘slot’ by grinding out metal from outside to slot.

It sounds like your hitch was flexed. I will attach a help article regarding flex. It also sounds like your weld nuts needed cleaned, as they can sometimes have debris and rust in them. The instructions say no drilling is required and that the passenger side needs lifted over exhaust first.

by:

Holes were not aligned (~1/4 inch off). I think the hitch flanges got bent inward from shipping (box had some damage where it looked like the hitch was dropped on flange end?).

Other than that great product/install. Was very impressed with how well the fishing method worked.

It is very common for hitches to flex during shipment. Hitches are made with some flexibility so that they flex with the vehicle while towing. Otherwise the rigidity may cause them to fracture. I have a link attached with some information on how to correct this flexing.

by:

Easy to install and fit perfectly. It was helpful to have a second person so each of us could hold half of it while it was being put on the van. I appreciated the videos and instructions specific to my vehicle. Made it much easier to know how to install it.

This does not fit my 2013 Honda Odyssey Touring. I wonder if the touring/elite models have different sizing or something. Having ordered it in winter, and waited until Spring/Summer to attempt application (I don't tow with a minivan in the winter), return options were limited. I tried many things including hammers etc, but it would have taken drilling new holes. No thanks.

by:

Great, straight forward installation. I debated between the 'hidden' version and the bar version. As far as I can tell from pictures, the OEM hitch is hidden in the center area, but the sides stick down similar to this style, so it's doesn't look that clean. There is a Draw Tite 76025 version that looks to be hidden on the sides as well which gives the cleanest look, but a lot more effort to remove the bumper, etc. This one isn't very noticeable, and hey, it's a mini-van - convenience is more important than looks. I don't believe the Draw Tite gets the hitch up any higher, looking at all the other videos, pictures, etc. So I opted for the etrailer version instead of the Curt, as the price was a bit better. I debated whether I should put the rear end up on floor jacks to give me a bit more room. Feeling lazy, I didn't, and probably should have just to give me a bit more working room. Couple notes that might help - Removing the drivers side underbody panel (that you can discard when finished or reinstall), there's a step where you unscrew a Phillips screw that is tucked in the wheel well. My minivan has the black plastic mudflaps, and even though there is a hole through them to access that screw, I removed the mudflaps - made it way easier to get to (and re-install - I chose to trim the plastic fitting and re-install). Also, on the passenger side, you can work around the exhaust pipe, but it's kind of in the way - I should have pulled it off the hangers (see the Curt hitch video) - would have saved a few curse words and socket extensions, etc. Don't forget the bristle brush to clean the weld nuts. Also, thread the bolts in once without the hitch in place, to make sure they'll go in smoothly. Overall, a pretty easy project to complete. One other plus - the fish-wire bolt installation is brilliant - it does go in as easy as the video shows, and works great. My only complaint is that I wish I had a hoist... :) Good luck!

Appears to be a solid piece of equipment. Took a little effort to install (done by myself) but I believe it’s attached correctly. Instructions could be a little more clear but all in all was able to get it done. Definitely recommend.

For a hitch with a high enough tongue weight capacity you will need the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75270. Although the # e98862 does have a max tongue weight of 500 lbs with weight distribution, this would require a weight distribution hitch and a trailer to install it on. The # 75270 has a maximum tongue weight of 675 lbs with or without weight distribution so it will be able to handle the bike rack and bikes without an issue.
