Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

Fits neatly under back bumper and doesn't stand out like older types of bolt on hitch receivers. Installation was easy enough. I see a small spot of rust already after the first week which is disappointing.

by:

This is the second hitch I bought from eteailer.great service fast shipping wouldn’t buy from anyone else. As for the hitch the install it was easy took about 30 minutes on my 2016 Ford Explorer 4x4.. Any one should be able to do it.I’am a 71 year old retired mechanic.

by:
2013 Ford Explorer

Everything fit great. The wire and bolt design to get the bolt to reverse drop in the frame was great ... Took a little finagling but got it eventually :) The hardest part was getting the muffler clamps off. I went out and bought a tool for it and made quick work of it. The next step is to plug in the wire kit I just ordered

by:

Awesome product super easy to install highly recommend product. Directions were spot on. One tip I have is to use a floor jack to support the exhaust system rather than a tie off quicker to drop and raise the exhaust.

by:

Installation is not that difficult. I am 70 years old and did it in my driveway by myself. I backed the car up on ramps and used a floor jack to support the exhaust system.

by:
2016 Ford Explorer

Great hitch, matched up all the previous bolt locations. My only issue was fishing the bolt and lock plate into the frame. The video posted made it seem so easy but after 25 minutes of frustration, I got it. My vehicle had an additional bolt protruding from the end of the frame into the hole area. Oh well, it's not coming off again

by:

LOVE THE HITCH , EASY TO INSTALL ON OUR 2014 FORD EXPORER

by:
2013 Ford Explorer

The hitch fit perfectly onto the car. The only hassles with the installation were with one bolt that had to fit through a provided plate into a hole in the frame. Thanks to the fantastic installation videos we knew what to expect and they even provided the tool shown in the video as part of the kit! We already knew exactly what sizes of sockets to have on hand because that was also in the video. Thank you etrailer, you guys are great!

by:
2013 Ford Explorer

This was an easy install to my 2013 Ford Explorer. I've had no issues with towing capabilities. I would say the only issue is a bit of rust on the inside of the hitch receiver. I had to get a cover for it so it would not let the weather affect it as bad. But this is not a reason to give it anything less than 5 stars.

by:
2014 Honda CR-V

Everything about this trailer hitch receiver was excellent from the customer service, purchase, on-time delivery, installation instructions and the installation process. Did have to make one run to Home Depot to purchase the right size socket, but that is on me, not etrailer. The fit up to my 2017 Ford Explorer is factory perfect as shown in the photo. Thank you etrailer.

by:

Trailer hitch arrived quickly and install video was excellent. The hardest part was lowering the exhaust from the hangers I chose the eTrailer hitch because of the powder black coating instead of the glossy black. You can see that the hitch is barely noticeable and fits tightly under the bumper! My lab Riley also digs it!
Thanks!

by:

great hitch but doesn't have a permanent mount for trailer electrical connector.
will send photos via email.

This was my second etrailer hitch; the other one has held up well over 7 years of use. The installation is as easy as they can make it and the product is well-built and fits precisely. My only complaint is that the etrailer bolts have 19mm heads, while the vehicle’s OEM bolts are 18mm (which is as large as most over-the-counter socket kits fit) - this left me unable to bolt the hitch on until I got a 19mm socket, which I couldn’t do easily with the tailpipes hanging down… Not sure if they bulk buy 19mm for use with other vehicles too, but using the same as the vehicle’s would be much less hassle for the average aftermarket class III installer (who I’d guess is like me, reasonably handy but without a large tool set).

by:

I was so impressed with the straightforward directions, ease of installation, and quality built into my trailer hitch. After one year, it’s as if it were factory installed. I have had no issues whatsoever with this product. I actually purchased a trailer hitch and installed it on our priest’s car. I obviously have no reservations recommending this product to anyone. I am a disabled Vietnam veteran who believes in support this wonderful country of ours - made in the USA!!

by:

Awesome well built product took 15 minutes to install

by:
2015 Ford Explorer

the speed you got it shipped and the fit was great.only thing I am questionable about is the bolts that hold the muffler links. the lug that the bolts fit in is adequate I'm sure but if I was to build one I would provide a welded nut on the back side so the bolt couldn't tilt in the rubber link. I would have made my own but didn't have the time and yours is very well designed and proven

by:

For the second time, the first being when I purchased a trailer jack last year, I was missing parts, in this case a two bolts, a nylok and two washers. It was obvious, as with the jack, that the cardboard had a tear in it which was patched by someone (crudely at that) which I have pictures of on my phone.

My wife found your video on U Tube. After my review we ordered the hitch and trailer lighting harness. Great hitch with all required parts to easily install with common tools. Quality parts built to last! Many Thanks!

by:

Everything went great, but the explanation video ( the featured one, first click one ) should explain in more detail how to input the metal rectangular metal support is installed in the frame. That was the only point of frustration I experienced. Thanks for the product though.

Worked great, put my receiver to it an have not had any problems.

  • Will the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch e98867 for a 2011 - 2019 Ford Explorer Fit Other Vehicles
The etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e98867 is only a fit for a 2011 - 2019 Ford Explorer. The reason for this is that it is a custom fit trailer hitch which is what allows it to retain bolt-on installation. The majority of our trailer hitches are custom fit which means they are designed for a specific vehicle and cannot be transferred to another that does not share the same chassis. If you can let me know what other vehicles you have then I would be glad to offer a custom fit...

  • Why Does etrailer Hitch for 2017 Ford Explorer have Three Bolt Holes on One Side and Other Two
Hitch manufacturers have to work with how the vehicle manufacturers design the vehicles. On your 2017 Ford Explorer there happens to be access to a third hole on the frame on the one side so they went ahead and utilized it. With it's current design the hitch is conservatively rated for 4,000 lbs total trailer weight.

  • Does Trailer Wiring Harness for 2019 Ford Explorer Need a Converter
No, your 2019 Ford Explorer doesn't need a converter for its trailer wiring so part # 118540 is exactly what you need. Some vehicles need a converter to protect their wiring from being damaged if there's a back feed from the trailer. Usually it's on harnesses that connect inline with the rear tail lights. Since your Explorer has factory connectors that this harness mates right up with it's already protected and a converter on the harness isn't necessary. I've linked a video from when we...

  • Towing Trailer with Higher GVWR than Tow Vehicle's Capacity
As long as the actual loaded weight of the trailer you plan on towing is less than the Ford Explorer's capacity then you are good to go.
