E-Z Lube-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

The brakes from etrailer were of excellent quality. They installed easily, and no adjustments were needed for the installation. After bleading the system, the brakes worked fine. I will definitely recommend etrailer to my friends and relatives needing trailer parts and accessories.

I originally was going to get the hub kit that was factory OEM for my Imagine 2150 travel trailer. Due to it being backordered and not expecting it to be available until February, etrailer showed another hub assembly that was in stock that would fit my trailer. The Dexter hub kit comes with the bearings, seal, axle nut, grease cap and lug nuts. This kit was just a few dollars more than the one that I had originally ordered. I am glad that I ordered the Dexter's. The moment I opened the box I could see the quality of the hub, and casted into the hub was "Made in America ".

Bought new Dexter brakes and drums to replace the original brakes on my 1995 Haulmark car trailer. The original drums and magnets were badly worn, and I wanted to replace them before going to the car cruise in Ocean City. I received an email from etrailer.com within hours of placing the order, stating that the order has shipped! The absolute best customer service I ever had. The parts arrived within days, and the packaging was superb. Thank you etrailer!

The Dexter parts are working great so far! Although I only used the trailer twice for about 450 miles total. Ive always had good service from etrailer. Thank you for the follow up, I appreciate it.

We have been going camping out West snd Southwest for five years now. Pulling 2003 Jayco 12 Sd popup behind 2006 Chevrolet Express 2500. A lot of mountains. Big Mountains. I noticed that the hydraulic brakes on the camper didn't work properly. I have tried to adjust them multiple times but it didn't help. I decided to replace them with electric brakes . It looked like etrailer had exactly what I needed. I ordered the electric brakes assembly first and then hub and drum assembly. Had to take some measures for the brake plate mounting and also get part numbers of the old bearings in the hub. All parts arrived two days after order was placed. Amazing. All the parts were there. . I am not the greatest mechanic but I was able to install them fairly quickly. Installation videos on etrailer website and YouTube were very helpful. We just went on our first camping trip this year. Only two hours drive. It seems that everything works fine I can feel that new brakes actually work. Thanks to Nicole at etrailer for helping me with this order.

installed brakes on my 97 Rogue boat trailer. E-Trailer had everything I needed for the job. Trailer already had the 4-hole mounting plate for the backing plate. It was all bolt on, brakes work great. I have bought quite a few items from them over the past few years, including an axle assy with brakes for another boat trailer, 2 brake controllers and also a trailer hitch for our older Lexus suv. I am very satisfied with there service and quality of there merchandise.

I purchased a used cargo trailer. We used it in October to go to Colorado on a hunt. We had a horrible time with the brakes failing. I tore it down this Spring and found there were no brakes on the front axle. I started checking around locally and could not find the parts I needed. I found etrailer online and took a chance and ordered(something Idon’t do shop online)the parts I was sure I needed. The parts arrived Tuesday and I installed them today. Everything was just as advertised and the fit was exact. Now I just need to get two new tires and wheels and the trailer will be ready for our trip to Colorado this year. Thanks E-Trailer. John

Promised shipping date came and went, I was very disappointed. The trailer I was working on needed to be ready to go on a trip from Arizona to Belize Central America over 3000 miles. Trip was delayed due too these shipping issues after paying more money to get it to me. Road testing wasn't done. Probably won't ever order from you again, after ordering other products in the past for our Rogue and Wrangler, which at that I felt very happy with etrailer. Luckily I made it without any issues.

Great Price on a new brake drum for my Casita. Included everything - bearings, seals, dust cap, retainer, axle nut and lug nuts. Did not include the washer, but that's no big deal (I have a few extra!). Arrived much faster than expected, too. Got my Casita back on the road after a bearing failure that scored the inside of the hub. Great price and good service from etrailer! I must also mention that etrailer has so much good INFORMATION and tutorials as well. There might be other online sites that have it for a penny cheaper, but they don't have the information you need to get the job done right. Thanks again etrailer!

The videos provided by e-trailer were invaluable; there was no need to take pictures. The disassembly and reassembly of the hub was straightforward. Have plenty of newspaper and roll of paper towels. The biggest thing I recommend is packing the bearings properly and paying close attention to tapping the inner bearing seal with a block of wood: Take your time and do it carefully, checking the evenness of the seal. It should be flush with the metal rim. I spent about 3.5 hours total on this work, possibly the next time will be faster.

I built a utility trailer with my son from a 10K weigh capacity boat trailer and wanted to finish it properly. Bearings, hubs and drums arent an area to skimp on when building a trailer but where does a person find the RIGHT replacement parts. My local hardware and big box stores offer off brand replacement parts but of what quality and I'm still guessing as to proper replacement. I called etrailer and boy am I glad I had a micrometer handy. Their customer service walked me through all measurements and I'm assured the best quality products that will stand the test of time. I am grateful for their expertise and assured of quality. Thank you

As a consumer in todays age, I look for service but also price adjusting when possible based on competition. Not the first time I ordered from Etrailer but I did find other competitors with lower pricing on the items I purchased. Comical to see that not appropriate for review is indicating anything contrary to excellent. Thus it is that pictures shown of damaged boxes may not reveal how the end product is used or affected but it is also part of the process of ordering in the future. If asking for tips only or how to give rave reviews when the overall needs to be conveyed, then why offer it as an alternative to begin with?

My 2012 travel trailer came equipped with 1-3/4” wide brakes, which is not a common size. When it was time to do maintenance I went to etrailer.com because of the wealth of information and advice available. After reading the information it became obvious that the best course of action would be to upgrade to 10 x 2-1/4” brakes and hubs. My supplies arrived in good shape, with the Dexter boxes inside of other boxes from etrailer. After watching helpful videos I installed the new brakes in a day. Things went smoothly, installing new complete brake sets is so much easier than messing around with individual parts, and probably about the same cost. Now came time to wear in the brakes and check things out. Beware that it is really tempting to not wait long enough for the brakes to cool in between evolutions where you apply them hard and go from 40 to 20 MPH. They can get pretty hot. The end result is that now we have much more braking power, the braking is smoother, and we have confidence in our ability to stop which is priceless. Not having to adjust our brakes is a plus. We are very pleased with our Dexter never adjust brakes and especially pleased with the exceptional customer service and expert advice from etrailer. Add in the price guarantee and dealing with them is truly a no-brainer.

Everything arrived in good shape. Haven't installed do to weather. Was missing one plastic wire fastener on one of the breaks. On rechecking the web page I see that the nuts to secure the break to the trailer were to be purchased separately, had I noticed that I would have included it with my order. No problem was able to purchase 8 nuts and washers for $2.00 at a local nut and bolt dealer. Appreciate your help with my purchase and will deal with you when I need more items for my utility trailers or camping trailer.

  • Parts Needed to Add Brakes to 3,500 lb Trailer Axle
Since we know you have 3,500 lb axles we can pretty easily pick out the correct parts you'd need to add brakes to your trailer. You'd need new hubs that have integrated drums like with the part # 84546UC3-EZ which have the very common 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. Then you'd need to add matching brake assemblies with the part # AKEBRK-35-SA and you'd be set aside from 10 gauge wiring like part # 10-1-1 which we offer that you'd want to wire up the assemblies with. This is sold by the foot.

  • Tips for Removing Races from a Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly
Are you replacing the races in the hub? I ask because the hubs and hub and drum assemblies we sell come with the races already installed so you would not have to reuse the old ones. Races are difficult to remove but since you have one out already you can go into the opposite side from the race still in the hub and use a wooden rod to drive out the race. • Is Mobile 1 Synthetic Tube Grease Good for Trailer Bearings
That is a good question. I suppose it depends on how it is formulated and what its ratings are. Take a look at the FAQ article I have linked that covers everything you ever wanted to know about grease but were afraid to ask. The first part covers what the various letter ratings mean. Ideally you want something that is GC-LB rated. The FAQ also discusses choosing the best grease for an application and a compatibility chart. But when in doubt, clean it out. Meaning that if you are not...
