Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • Recommended Replacement Brake Hubs and Brakes for a Dexter 7K Axle
I wasn't able to find anything relating to that part number and since you're unsure of what you have I'd just recommend swapping the entire hub to make everything easier. You're just going to need to choose the hubs that have your current wheel studs. For 1/2" studs with a grease cap you'll want # 8-219-4UC3, For 1/2" studs with an E-Z lube cap you'll want # 8-219-4UC3-EZ, For 1/2" studs with an oil bath hub you'll want # 8-219-9UC3, For 9/16" studs with a grease cap you'll want # AKHD-865-7-1-K, For...

  • Can a Standard 7K Axle Be Coverted toi Oil Bath Without Changing the Hubs and Drums
No, you're going to need to change out your hub and drums if you want to convert to oil baths. For your 7K axles you're either going to need the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-219-9UC3, or the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-219-9UC3-A. To figure out which hub and drum will work on your axles, you're going to need to find measurements on the spindles of your axles as there are differences in the size of oil seal between the two hubs.

  • Replacing Grease Lube Hubs with Oil Bath Hubs
You can most definitely add oil based hubs to your trailer axles. If you have 3,500 lb axles you can use # XLPROLUBE1980KIT to convert your grease hubs to oil based hubs. With this kit you will need to pop off your old grease hub caps. You will then clean all of the grease off the spindle, hub and bearings. Lastly, install the new oil bath hub cap by tapping it into place and fill with oil. If you have a larger size axle there is no way to convert the hub for oil based. You will need to...

  • How to Determine if Trailer Hub 8-219-9UC3 Would Fit Spindle
I'd need more info on your axles to know if the hub you mentioned would fit. Is there a sticker or label on it with any info/part numbers? Otherwise you'd have to pull off a hub to get me the dimensions of the spindle or the bearing numbers. The # 8-219-9UC3 uses bearing numbers 25580 and 14125A and has spindle dimensions of 1.25 inch and 1.75 inch.

  • What's Difference Between Trailer Hubs # 8-219-9UC3 and # 8-219-9UC3A
The two hubs are very similar but the big difference is the size of the seal that comes with the hubs. The # 8-219-9UC3-A comes with a seal that has an inner diameter of 2.25 inches and the # 8-219-9UC3 comes with a seal that has an inner diameter of 2-1/8 inches. You'd need to measure your current spindle where the seal rides to determine which you'd need.

  • Changing Trailer Hubs from Grease Type to Oil Bath Type
Oil bath hubs have a threaded bore that accepts the threaded oil cap that lets you see the oil level. If you want to change from grease-lubricated hubs to oil bath lubricated hubs you will need to make sure that your current bearings match up to those in one of the oil bath hub kits we offer, either # 8-219-9UC3-A or # 8-219-9UC3. Both of these hubs use the bearing set # 25580 inner and # 14125A outer. If your current hubs use this bearing set and if their 8 on 6-1/2 inch bolt pattern...

As far as caps are concerned the main difference between an oil and grease caps is how they have to attach to the hub. Grease hubs will press in, while oil seals need to be screwed into a threaded hub. You will need to upgrade to oil bath hubs. We have oil bath hubs that would fit your spindle, except they all have an 8 on 6-1/2 inch bolt pattern. One of them is the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-219-9UC3. • Are Oil bath Hubs a Better Option for My 7,000 Lbs Axles Than Using Grease Hubs
The main reason people like oil bath hubs over grease hubs is the oil bath hubs have a less involved maintenance schedule than grease hubs. It is recommended to inspect and repack grease wheel bearings and seals every 12k miles. With oil bath hubs, Dexter recommends to periodically check and refill when necessary. It is also recommended to use a high quality hypoid gear oil in SAE 90, 80W-90 or 75W-90 weights. However, periodic inspection of you wheel bearings should not be abandoned...

The Oil Cap Kit, # RG04-270, is threaded and would only work on hubs that are threaded for screw in style caps. This would not work on the # 8-219-4UC3 as it takes press in style caps.
