E-Z Lube-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I know you guys are the retailers but you need to speak to Dexter. Attached are photos of the hub you sent me and all the corrosion. I spent time with 600 grit sandpaper wet sanding the already installed outer races. They cleaned up to an auto quality for usage. In my old position, aviation maintenance I would have rejected this part. I will still need to spend time cleaning out the passage way between the bearings. I have an EZ Lube unit and the grease passes through the inner cavity so it must be free of loose debris.
Dexter should never ship bare metal parts. They corrode quickly. Just a quick spra of LPS 2 or the such would have eliminated this corrosion. They should have also kept the Lip Seal in its box. In the bag with the seal is a large lock washer it could cut or damage the
Lip Seal.

Fine but too expensive. Cheaper to buy local.

by:

Thank you Haley for sending the correct drums. I sent two sets back, they were for 35k axles instead of 4k. I’m having a problem getting proper brakes. I have adjusted the shoes according to the instructions, but still getting very little braking. I’m told to drive it for a while to see if the self adjust will work. Over all I am happy with your products, thanks.

by:

I desperately needed this item(s) during the period of time when the supply chain was dysfunctional due to covid, etc. The shop doing the work on my camper trailer unsuccessfully tried for a couple of months to obtain the items through the manufacturer. I then contacted etrailer who had the parts in stock and supplied them to me in a week. The parts worked excellently and the etrailer customer service was competent, professional and responsive.

by:

This was my first time replacing brakes on my trailer. I found the instructions
We’re complete and easy to follow. Also, looked at you tube to check out the do’s and don’t. Replaced electric brakes and drums at the same time. Trailer brakes factory new.

by:

Ordered complete hub bearing assembly for all four wheels on my trailer. The order came quickly but box was damaged on the hub assembly. The bearings and other loose parts are in a plastic bag which were open and look like got smashed between the box and the hub. I think if they put the loose parts in a better box and maybe inside the drum to protect him would be better. it’s a bit frustrating when you spend a lot of money for four drum hubs and four brake assemblies and you’re ready to put them on your trailer and you can’t because someone didn’t care about their job along the way. I’m glad I inspected everything because if not the bearing probably would have done some damage with the cage being smashed against the rollers bearings. I called the e trailer that night and looks like everything‘s getting taken care of they going to send me new bearings appreciate it very much

by:

It was properly packaged to keep the bearings and other hardware separate from the hub.

by:

The product was easy to order, communication was very good during the shipping process, it arrived quickly and correct. One suggestion would be to pack the box a little tighter. The heavy boxes were packed in a larger box and the items bounced around a lot. Some of the small parts bags tore open but luckily were not damaged. Thanks for your great service. I will order again and recommend.

by:

Exactly what we need. Received within 3 days!

by:

These were installed less than a year ago and the whole wheel fell off while driving down the road. Not even so much as a sorry from this manufacturer. Never buy this product again.

by:

Product was as ordered, and arrived on time. Good job, etrailer!

by:

Item was as advertised, shipped out quickly and was easy to track

  • Correct Braking Assemblies for Rockwood Ultra Lite with Dexter 4k Axle
The correct braking assembly kit for a Dexter 4,000 Lb Axle is the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # K23-462-463-00 for manual adjust or Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # K23-478-479 for self-adjust. These are almost the same as the brakes for a Dexter 3,500 Lb Axle expect for the magnet size which is much smaller therefore they are weaker and the mounting flange pattern is slightly different. The two Dexter hub and drums you mentioned do fit the same spindle as they use the same bearings and grease seal, but they have different capacities, and I verified with Dexter that the actual drum itself is different to compensate for the difference. So the correct hub and drum will depend on the capacity of your axle: - 4,000 lb Axle: Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 4,000-lb E-Z Lube Axles # K08-426-91 - 3,500 lb Axle: Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 3,500-lb E-Z Lube...

With that being said, the hub you will need is the Dexter # 8-201-5UC3-EZ. This will include the bearings, seal, EZ-Lube grease cap, and lug nuts. For the left brake, you will need the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake # 23-458. This has a 5 bolt brake flange pattern and is for the left side of the axle.

With the trailer weight of 3,800 to 3,850 pounds, the axle should be rated to either 4,000 pounds or 5,200 pounds. With the trailer being from 1979, however, I cannot confirm this 100%. Standard capacities and ratings have changed quite a bit since then and I was unable to find much on a 2 inch square axle. This does not mean you cannot replace brakes, hubs, or bearings.
