Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This hub-and-drum assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This assembly has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

E-Z Lube-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Installed four sets of these hubs and drums, along with new electric brakes, as part of a total trailer refurb a year ago. Had some challenges early on with one wheel overheating, but solved it with the help of etrailer's excellent tech support. Since then everything is fine and I couldn't be happier.

Initially I had some issues with one of the drums getting very hot when driving. So, I contacted customer service, and with their help I was able to rectify the situation. Since then everything is working just fine. Thanks for being a first-class organization who cares about the customer.

I got the wrong size brake drums because I measured improperly but other than that everything was fine. I added brakes to a trailer that had none. . I had to re-order the right size and now my trailers on the road. My recommendation is to take your wheels down to your local tire dealer and have them measure the lug diameter with their gauge before you order.

Ordered a trailer Drum kit (5 by 5)... came at fair price, I am very pleased.. Shipping was fast and low cost (3 day priority) and was actually here in 2 days (bonus points) The drum coming with the race already pressed in was a huge help to be as I live way out in the sticks and am limited on tools . I will for sure use etrailer again should I need more parts to keep my landscape business going...Thank you

My original purchase was for a new weld on spindle with new drum/hub assembly with bearings for the other 3 wheels. I measured the wheel pattern wrong and by the time I had realized this I had installed everything. I reached out to etrailer for help and thanks to Hally C. she was able to remedy my issue with the right parts in about two days with little trouble at all. Thank you to etrailer for technical assistance and speedy delivery of new parts. Advice to anyone ordering hubs and drums remember the old saying about carpentry, measure twice and cut once, (in this case measure twice and order once) or you'll be like me and now own a hub/drum that's sitting on your shelf collecting dust because you don't own anything it fits (yet lol)!

There are several possibilities for hubs that would fit as a replacement for you trailer axle so I will need a bit more info to help you determine which hubs you'd need. In order to do that you can either get the inner and outer bearing numbers from a hub or use a dial or digital caliper to get exact measurements of the spindle. The measurements needed are the parts of the spindle where the bearings ride. See attached picture. That said there's only one fit for hubs that have a 5 on...

  • Are Trailer Hub/Drums Directional Like Trailer Drum Brakes
Trailer brakes are directional, meaning that a trailer should be fitted with correctly matching left- and right-side brakes such as # AKEBRK-35R-SA and # AKEBRK-35L-SA based on the axle weight rating. However the hub/drums themselves, which fit over the brakes, are not directional. In other words while there are left and right brakes, there are no left and right hubs. • Parts Needed to Add Brakes to a Trailer with 3,500 lb Axle and 5 on 5 inch Bolt Pattern
You will need to first start with hub drums that match your axle capacity and bolt pattern like the etrailer # AKHD-550-35-EZ-K. Then for brake assemblies you'd want the part # AKEBRK-35R-SA and # AKEBRK-35L-SA for self adjusting brake assemblies. Then for a breakaway kit you'd want part # 20400. Now for a kit that includes a junction box and 7-way the part # e99011 is the best and easiest solution. This will make integrating the new wiring for the brakes with the older wiring the easiest...

  • Recommended Hubs and Brakes to Build Offroad Trailer with Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension
Generally, it is not recommended to use automotive tires on a trailer application, with the only exception being LT tires. Based on the information I was able to find, it looks like you're in luck because that's exactly what your BFGoodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM tires are so you should have no problem using those to build your off-road trailer. That being said, the 5 on 5 bolt pattern poses a problem since there are no hub/drum assemblies compatible with the spindles used on the Timbren...

  • Correct Hubs-Drums and Brakes for Lippert 3,500 lb Spindle
The Lubed 4" Drop Spindle with Brake Flange for 3,500-lb Axle # LC12338, uses standard 10" diameter hubs and brakes, for which we have the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies # AKEBRK-35-SA. For the brake mounting hardware (nuts and lock-washers) you can use part # BRKH10B. The most common hub-drum assembly for this application is part # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K, with a 5 on 4-1/2 wheel bolt pattern. However, depending on the wheels you plan on...

  • Timbren Axle-Less Suspension System Compatible with Jeep for Matching Trailer
For the Timbren Axle-Less kit compatible with the bolt pattern of 5 on 5 like a Jeep, you would need the 2,200 lb capacity # ASR1THDS03. The spindles on the Timbren system are a little larger than their thru-axle counterparts, so the 3,500 lbs # ASR3500S06 will only fit larger hubs that won't have the bolt pattern you seek. Using # ASR1THDS03, you can then use the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 3,500-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 5 on 5 # AKIHUB-550-35-EZ-K or the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly...

  • Availability of 5 on 5" Bolt Pattern Hubs for Timbren 2,000 Pound Axle-Less System
Trailer hubs are definitely designed to fit specific spindles, so not every hub will work with every spindle. Most of the fit has to do with the size of the inner bearing, outer bearing, and grease seal on the hub, as these components are what will fit around the various outer diameters of the spindle. The Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # A20RS545 features spindles that are designed to accept hubs that use the # L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) inner and outer bearing and...
