Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This hub-and-drum assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This assembly has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

This is the second time I have ordered these drums. The quality seems to be great. I can find no defects. The price was fantastic and came with free shipping. You can't really go wrong for the price. Now I can use the rims I want and they are the same size as my van so I could use my van spare tire as a back-up if needed going down the road. That makes thing a little bit easier.

- AKHD-555-35-K

Brake drums are heavy, sturdy and appear well machined. Bearings and cones also appear to be well machined and should match exact. The wheel seals are double lipped which should add to life of seals. Will install the drums on trailer axle in near future, probably next weekend or two.

The hub received is working well. Fit up great. No issues with installation.

Thanks for the follow up. The trailer has been working great with the new parts. Have had a lot of use with no issues.

  • Hub Assemblies For 3500 lb Axle On Tandem Axle Car Hauler 16 Foot
For a 3500 lb axle, your options for bearing sizes are greatly narrowed down so that makes things a lot easier. You just need to determine your bolt pattern of your wheels. For traditional 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern, Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 3,500-lb Axles - 10" Diameter, I recommend # AKHD-545-35-K. For 5 on 5 inches, I recommend # AKHD-550-35-K. For 5 on 5-1/2 inches, I recommend the # AKHD-555-35-K. For 6 on 5-1/2 inches, I recommend the # AKHD-655-35-K. If you have axles...

  • Trailer Hub Recommend for Utility Trailer with 5 on 5-1/2 inch Bolt Pattern L44649/L68149 Bearings
The spindles of an EZ lube axle are the exact same as a non-EZ-lube. Only difference being the zerk fitting at the end of it. The EZ lube hubs we offer are the same as the non-EZ-lube hubs with the only difference being the grease cap has a rubber plug that fits the cap. For a replacement hub to replace yours with a 5 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern and matches your bearings of L44649/L68149 you would wan the part # AKHD-555-35-K for a non-EZ lube or part # AKHD-555-35-EZ-K for EZ-lube style.

  • How to Determine Correct Fit of Replacement Hub on Trailer Spindles
Our range of 5-on-5-1/2 hubs for 2000-lb to 3500-lb axles is shown on the linked page. These items include both idler hubs like # AKIHUB-555-35-K for trailers without brakes and also hub/drums like # AKHD-555-35-K for trailers with drum brakes. All hubs include bearings, races, seals and lug nuts. As it happens, all of these 5-on-5-1/2 hubs use the same set of bearings, inner bearing # L68149 and outer bearing # L44649. A new hub has to use the same bearings as the one it replaces in...

  • Recommendation For Hubs For Single Axle Boat Trailer With 5 Hole Rims
Thanks for the information you sent. To make a more accurate recommendation, I need to know your bolt pattern, whether you have brakes, inner and outer bearings sizes, and the capacity of your axle. With the information you sent, it sounds like you have a 3,500 lb trailer axle which often have inner bearings like Item # L68149 and outer bearings like Item # L44649. I do not know the exact bolt pattern of your wheels but the most common 5-bolt patterns are 5 on 4-1/2, 5 on 5, or 5 on...

  • What 5 On 5 1/2 Hub Available For Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System
The Timbren options we have available fit a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern or a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern. I recommend measuring your bolt pattern to make sure 5 on 5-1/2 is what you need. To confirm your measurement, use the distance between the center of one bolt hole to the center of the bolt hole adjacent to it (article on bolt patterns attached). If this measurement is 3-1/4 inches then you have a confirmed 5 on 5-1/2 pattern. If the 5 on 5-1/2 pattern holds true then a Timbren option...

  • M416A1 Military Trailer Swapping Out Brakes for Electric With Parking Brake
It would be best to go ahead and change out the drums when you install the new Brake Assemblies # K23-086-087-00. This will ensure that the brakes do wear in properly. I recommend using the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-555-35-K. Of course you will want to verify that you have the same spindle that is required for this assembly. The spindle dimension for the grease seal is 1.719", the inner bearing is 1.378" and the outer bearing is 1.063". If those match your spindles than this...

To find hub/drum assemblies for electric drum brakes that will fit your existing spindles you will need to find the bearing part numbers from the existing hubs. The 5-on-5-1/2-inch bolt pattern hub/drums we offer for 15-inch wheels are shown on the linked page. These are available in weight capacities to match 2000-, 2200- and 3500-lb axles. Be sure to choose hubs rated for your axle; usually there will be a plate or sticker on the axle that tells you its weight rating. For example, if...

  • 3,500 lb Trailer Axle Recommendation that's 95 inches Long and 5 on 5.5 inch Bolt Pattern Hubs
We have the parts you'll need! The axle you mentioned part # 7359765 is the correct starting point as it's a 3,500 lb axle that is 95 inches from hub face to hub face and has 80 inches between the spring seats. Then for hub/drums that have a 5 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern you'd want the # AKHD-555-35-K which fits this hub and then for brake assemblies you'd want the # AKEBRK-35R for the right hand side and the part # AKEBRK-35L for the left hand side. With all of these components you'd be set!

  • Self Adjusting Brake Assemblies for 3.5K Axles on 2008 Forest River Wildwood LE travel Trailer
A 3500 lb axle would use a 10 inch brake assembly. For 10 inch self adjusting brake assemblies, I'd recommend part # AKEBRK-35-SA which includes right and left brake assemblies. The mounting hardware is sold separately as part # BRKH10B. You'll also want to examine the armature surface of your brake drums, which is the surface the magnets ride against. If that surface is grooved or pitted, you'll want to replace the hub/drums as well, as the new magnets wouldn't get a good grab on the...

  • Recommendation For Brakes And Drums For 3,500 Pound Capacity Axle

You will do this by matching the bearings and seals of your trailer with the proper hub-and-drum assemblies. Based on the information you...

  • Can 3,500 Lb Hub be Used to Replace 2,000 Lb Hub with Same Size Bearings
Technically yes, if you were replacing idler hubs, as long as the inner/outer bearing, grease seal AND wheel bolt pattern match, there's nothing that prevents you from using a 3,500 lb axle hub, like # 84545BX on a 2,000 lb axle. If the bearings and seal match but the bolt pattern is different, you would also need new wheels to make the hub compatible.
