Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This hub-and-drum assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This assembly has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Was happy with the service and products. There was a delay with shipping due to a mailing address issue but once it was brought to their attention, they were quick to respond and I received the parts fairly quickly after that. I was very happy about how they resolved the issue. One of the bearings was damaged during shipping but not a big deal as we could find the bearing locally anyways. Will use etrailer again when the need arises.

  • Needing Replacement Brake Drums With 5/8 Inch Wheel Studs on 8,000 Lbs Axles
The brake drums that we carry for the 8,000 lbs axles come in two types, grease or oil bath style. The drums that have the 5/8 inch wheel studs, like # 8-285-10UC3-A, are for the oil bath style drums. The grease lubed drums, like # AKHD-865-8-K, are using 9/16 inch wheel studs. If you have the 5/8 inch studs, then you will need # 8-285-10UC3-A. The drums will come with new lug nuts, bearings, and seals. The only difference is these drums are designed to use oil instead of grease. You...

  • 8,000 lb Electric Trailer Brake Assemblies That Measure 12-1/4 Inch x 3-3/8 Inch
I saw the Q&A you were referring to, which is about a decade old as of this writing and there are no 12" diameter x 3-3/8" wide brake assemblies we offer, just the 12-1/4" diameter x 3-3/8" wide # AKEBRK-8 that are rated for 8,000 lb axles. You may need to change your hub and drum to get one compatible with the larger brakes that are now available. To do this you will need to know what bearings your current hub has. You will need to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the...

  • 8k Rated etrailer Hub/Drums that Work as Replacement for Dexter 8-285 Hub
Yes the etrailer hub/drum # AKHD-865-8-K that you referenced would work great as a replacement for the Dexter 8-285 hub part # 8-285-10UC3-A that you also mentioned. Then for a set of brake assemblies we have the self adjusting Dexter kit part # 23-434-435 which would work great or the etrailer equivalent part # AKEBRK-8.

  • Recommended Trailer Hub To Convert Trailer From 5 Spoke Wheels To 8 x 6.5 Pattern
Based on the information you provided, I recommend the Etrailer Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly Item # AKHD-865-8-K. It includes an inner bearing (Item # 25580) and race and an outer bearing (Item # 02475) and race, grease seal, grease cap, wheel bolts, and lug nuts. It fits an 8 on 6-1/2 inch bolt pattern. Make sure to confirm that these parts will work with your bearings and trailer. For...

  • Replacement Bearings and Seals for Converting 8K Oil Bath Dexter Axle to Grease
I believe I was able to find the bearings and seals that you need, but you'll want to double check on your end by removing the hub and looking at part numbers just to make sure. Inner Bearing - # 25580 Inner Race - # 25520 Outer Bearing - # 02475 Outer Race - # 02420 Grease Seals - # RG06-070 (2.250" ID and 3.376" OD) When it comes to the oil bath caps from what I could find yours should be part # RG04-230 which has an OD of 2.875" and nothing we have is that fits that. Since this is...

  • Replacement Brake Assemblies and Hubs for 2008 Double Tree 5th Wheel Trailer
We have the hub you are in need of as part # AKHD-865-8-K and then for the brake assemblies you'd need # AKEBRK-8R for the right hand side and part # AKEBRK-8L for the left hand side. Our etrailer.com brand axle components are actually rebranded Axletek products.

  • Upgrading From 7K to 8K Electric Brake Assemblies on Trailer for Increased Braking Power
You should be able to change out the backing plates, hubs, and brakes on your trailer so you can upgrade to higher rated assemblies, but I do recommend checking a couple things on your tow vehicle first. It's possible that your weak braking is due to a wiring or brake controller issue on the vehicle. If this is the case, changing out the brake assemblies on the trailer won't resolve the issue. I first recommend testing the vehicle side 7-Way with a Multimeter like # PT89ZR. Make sure...

  • Trailer Tire and Wheels for Single Axle 8,000 lb Dump Trailer
While we do have what will work for you, both the wheel and tire need to have the capacity to handle that much weight and if you have 15 inch wheels, there are no tires that will fit which have the needed capacity. We also do not carry any wheels with a 6 bolt pattern that have the needed 4,000 lb capacity so you would need to change your hub to one with an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern. That would allow you to use the Taskmaster Steel 10-Spoke Trailer Wheel - 16" x 6" - 8 on 6-1/2 - White,...

  • Do 9k and 8k Trailer Hubs Take the Same Dimension Brake Assemblies
The brake assembly dimensions of the 8k and 9k Dexter trailer brake assemblies are the same at 12-1/4 inch diameter by 3-3/8 inches wide. So if you find a brake drum that matches the bearings it will still work even if it's a higher capacity since the hub is going to fit the spindle and the depth and diameter of the drum will be same.

  • Weight of 8 Lug Hub and Drum Assembly for 8,000 Pound Axle
I am not sure of the exact model hub and drum assembly you have on your trailer, but the etrailer.com Trailer Hub and Drum # AKHD-865-8-K that we have for 8,000 pounds axles weighs around 68 pounds. Looking through the other similarly rated hub assemblies we have available, it looks like they all have a weight of around this number. With that being said, it does look like our hubs are a bit different than what your trailer is currently equipped with based on the picture you attached. Your...
