Electric Boat Trailer Jack Made to Survive the Elements

There are countless electric jacks made for campers and utility trailers. Visit any campground or RV park and you'll find one right away. When RVers have an electric jack, they save a lot of time and effort. No sore shoulder from cranking a handle also means they can enjoy their trip more. Campers have it easy, so why shouldn't boaters?

Sure, the average camper jack is weather-resistant enough to protect the motor from a rain shower, but if you want the benefits of an electric jack on your boat trailer, you're going to need something up to the task. So, the Fulton XLT electric jack was designed to level the playing field.

Arrows point to the locations of the weatherproof toggle switches

Lake water won't be able to flood the motor or short out the toggle switches because these components are sealed off.

The outer tubing shows the drop leg and the rust-resistant Sharkskin coating

The XLT is built to withstand rust and corrosion too. Rust-resistant coatings - like the Sharkskin coating on this jack - are graded according to a salt spray rating. Basically, this rating shows the amount of time it takes for a material to show signs of corrosion when exposed to pure, continuous salt spray. Sure, the environment this test creates is much harsher than anything you'll ever experience in your journeys, but it provides a testament to how well this jack resists rust and corrosion.

With a 1,200-hour salt spray rating, Fulton's Sharkskin finish is 12 times tougher than a standard zinc coating, and 4 times stronger than Dacromet (a coating you'll often find on marine-grade brakes). And that's just on the outside! The Acme screw and other internal components have Fulton's 600-hour salt-spray-rated Z-Max zinc finish.

Fun Fact: The name of Fulton's Sharkskin finish is a nod to the resilience of the ocean predator. Just as it's very hard for algae and bacteria to cling to sharks as they swim in the ocean, it's very difficult for rust and corrosion to take hold on this marine jack.

Lighting Up Your Trailer Frame in the Dark

A demo of the LED lights on the Fulton XLT electric trailer jack

In low-light situations, the last thing you want to do is bang your shin on your trailer frame. Sure, you could use a flashlight, but if you're by yourself, you'll eventually need to set it down so you can do other things like hook up your safety chains, make sure your coupler is on your hitch ball securely, and so on. With this jack, you can leave the flashlight in your truck.

Three arrows show the locations of the 3 LED lights on the Fulton XLT electric trailer jack

The built-in LED lights provide the light you need in those dark times. They'll shine down directly on the left side, right side, and center of your coupler, so you can make sure your trailer is securely in place before driving away.

How to Determine the Lift Capacity You Need in a Jack

A trailer jack lifts your trailer high enough at the tongue to allow you to couple it with your vehicle. Usually, your tongue weight is about 10-15% of your gross trailer weight (GTW). For example, a 10,000-lb trailer has a tongue weight of 1,000 lbs to 1,500 lbs. To raise the tongue of a trailer this size, you'd need a jack that can handle a static load of no less than 1,500 lbs. And, yes, it's okay to have a jack with a weight rating that is higher than your trailer's tongue weight. In fact, a jack with a higher capacity should operate more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking and more time fishing.

I am going to look into this for you. This jack does have a five year warranty on it so lets start there. Be on the look out for an email!

by:

It works well and seems to have enough power to lift the trailer tongue of a medium weight trailer

by:

I have used this for one year now - shoulder and back saver. I added some crimp end loops and power it by my jumper batter / cables. Super easy and did not have to add a battery to trailer frame. My tongue weight is close to 1,000lbs. Old manual crack was 75-100 revolutions. Now I push a button.

by:

Works great I have a35’ center console offshore boat, it made hooking up a lot easier, I’m 66 years old and I wouldn’t be without one. Fishing in Port Aransas in the summer gets really hot when you have to wind up and down by hand crank.

by:

One year in and it’s been flawless.
Absolutely
love having it on our boat trailer.
Everyone I’ve taken that has seen it in use is super jealous and wants one too.

by:

Very fast shipping and easy transaction! Always use etrailer!

Installation was a breeze and only required a few common household tools....

As you can see by the before and after pictures the finished product looks great and works better than I anticipated AND the best part about my new electric trailer jack is no more cranking on that old manual trailer jack.

by:

I love this jack, so do all my friends, it works great!

by:

Love it so far - very happy.

by:

Very reliable. Product is strong. My boat is heavy, the tougue weight is about 750 lbs, and this lift it like nothing.

by:

I installed this on my aluminum trailer that met the tongue weight criteria. I have ordered a solar panel to place on top of the storage box to maintain the battery.

by:

SUPER EASY TO ORDER FROM THEIR SITE AND SHIPPED REALLY FAST! HAD IT WITHIN 2 DAYS.

by:

easy to install, great sharkskin finish ,works perfectly on my 7000# camper trailer, quiet very pleased with this jack.

by:

Awesome no more cranking and wearing out this old shoulder.

by:

Used on Hoosier pontoon trailer (BX325TT-12).

Jack has worked flawlessly. Since it was installed it has been used no less than 9 times. Works great with & without boat on trailer.

by:

When first used it didn’t work, put a snowmobile battery hooked up and it started working now it works off the truck as it should

by:

For a couple in their 60s, this electric jack on our 11,000lbs boat keeps allows us to continue enjoying the sport of boating.

Used 6x bought 6 months ago and stopped working. No light at all. There is no information any where on how to troubleshoot this. I emailed customer support and the company is a joke. I have since emailed 4x asking for help and for them to contact me with any info. Can you imagine a jack failing like this and them never answering your contacts. The only email I got was we received your email and our warranty group is busy right now. That’s it. Jacks are so important to using your RV don’t trust your precious time or headaches to a company that doesn’t stand behind their products. I had read other bad reviews but decided to try it thinking I would get a few years but it didn’t even last 6 months. And I thought the company would stand behind the product but I was so wrong.

Installed on 14’ open/flat bed, tandem wheel trailer, for non-marine use. Trailer stored outside when not in use. No deterioration from being in the elements. Looks new. Easy to install. Has functioned flawlessly during first year of use.

Reliable. No issues 1 yr+ service. Well worth cost in reduced effort ability to easily manage challenges of uneven, wet terrain without frustration.

This is a very effective trailer jack. Easy to mount...easy to operate. Plenty of power to lift the bow of my 23' Sea Chaser. The older I get, the more lazy I get. (LOL) So this is the perfect tongue jack. I connected mine to a small solar charger and a small 12 volt battery and it's ready to go whenever I need it. Very nice jack. No problems so far. Highly recommended. The only small setback is that you have to align the hitch ball very close to the tongue...it's not easy to move the tongue over to the hitch. I guess that goes with the territory. If you're good at backing up to it, it takes less time. Maybe if it came with a wheel(s) rather than the pancake stand...it may make it even better.

  • Is There a Powered Tongue Jack Which Will Bolt Onto a 6" Tall Trailer Frame?
The Fulton XLT Powered Drive Trailer Jack # F141401 is a very unique jack and is the only size Fulton makes like this. As an alternative you might consider the Trailer Valet JXS # TV36FR. While this is a manual jack it does come with a drill adapter which will allow you to easily raise and lower the jack with a cordless drill. It can also fit a trailer tongue up to 6-1/2" tall.
