Drill Powered Operation

When you're hitching up before a long day of work, or putting away your trailer before turning in for the night, you want to be able to do it with as little effort as possible. But sometimes it can be a real pain in the arm to crank your boat trailer up and down, even when the sun and rain isn't beating down on you.

An action shot shows a drill positioned on the Trailer Valet's hand crank attachment point, ready to go to work

Trailer Valet was thinking of you when they made this jack. Just slot the included drill attachment into your power drill's 1/2" chuck, remove the handle from the jack's driveshaft, and attach the drill in its place. Squeeze the trigger slowly to avoid too much torque off the bat. This will wind the gears at top speed, lifting or lowering your trailer in no time.

Quick Tip: While your power drill is meant to make operation faster, the higher torque it creates may mean a reduced lift capacity. If you'd rather get more lift capacity out of the jack, we suggest sticking with the included hand crank instead.

Rough Powder Coat Has More Wrinkles for Less Rust

Most rust-resistant coatings, like zinc, go on smooth. But this creates one big drawback: smooth finishes are easy to scratch, exposing the bare metal beneath and allowing rust and corrosion to take hold. So, the bright, shiny finish you see on day one might not last as long as you'd like.

a close up look at Trailer Valet's unique wrinkled black powder coat finish.

Trailer Valet solves this issue by applying a rough powder coat finish on top of the zinc-nickel plated outer tube that's harder to scuff and scratch. Basically, by giving the jack a rougher "terrain," this finish helps keep the jack from aging too quickly.

How to Determine the Lift Capacity You Need in a Jack

A trailer jack lifts your trailer high enough at the tongue to allow you to couple it with your vehicle. Usually, your tongue weight is about 10-15% of your gross trailer weight (GTW). For example, a 10,000-lb trailer has a tongue weight of 1,000 lbs to 1,500 lbs. To raise the tongue of a trailer this size, you'd need a jack that can handle a static load of no less than 1,500 lbs. And, yes, it's okay to have a jack with a weight rating that is higher than your trailer's tongue weight. In fact, a jack with a higher capacity should operate more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking and more time fishing.

Video Transcript for Checking Out the Trailer Valet JXS Drill Powered Drop Leg Trailer Jack w/ Footplate

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this Trailer Valet JXS side-wind trailer jack with drop leg. Now, this JXS side-mounted trailer jack features a manual hand crank, but it can also be powered by any 18 volt or 20 volt compact drill when using this included attachment. This is going to let you raise and lower your boat, your cargo or recreational trailer with ease, again by either using the hand crank or your drill with that attachment. And this jack does feature a lift capacity with the drill of 6,000 pounds, and then with the crank, of 7,000 pounds and it has a support capacity of 8,000 pounds.

Now, the overall height from the top of our jack all the way to the base that it's gonna be sitting on, we're sitting right at about 23.5 inches tall when this is fully retracted. But then when you have this fully extended, it's up to 50 and 13, 16 inches tall. Again, the overall height when this is fully extended. Now, this is going to give you a total lift of 26 and five-eighth inches. The screw travel is 13 and five-eighth inches and then the drop leg travel is 13 inches.

And I wanted to show you that it's gonna be very easy to drop the leg. You're just gonna remove this pin and then that's going to allow you to easily adjust that drop leg. And the adjustment hole spacing on the drop leg, lemme see if I can bring that there, is going to be three and seven-sixteenth inches from center of hole to center of hole. So it's gonna be very easy to adjust that leg. I'm gonna go ahead and replace the pin here.

It's gonna be just as simple as that. Now, the patented gear material composition is going to give you maximum efficiency while reducing heat retention. And the built-in sleeve fitting provides protection and a smooth glide. And this is a very smooth operation. There's no binding or anything like that.

This is just very smoothly ascending and then descending when I am cranking with this handle. This has a gear ratio of three to four and the maximum frame size fit is gonna be 6.5 inches tall and six inches deep. And the clearance is going to be 16.5 inches from mounting bracket to the top of the jack. And of course, as you know, the foot plate is going to minimize sinking into soft ground. And I measured our foot plate earlier before our time together and this is going to be seven and three-quarters inches long and six inches wide. The outer tube diameter is two and a quarter inches and the inner tube diameter is two inches. And this does feature a wrinkle black powder coat that's going to give you great weather resistance. And this also includes instructions, a quick start guide, and then a set of instructions to guide you in not only installing this but through the very simple operation as well. Well, I think that's gonna conclude our look today. I do hope our time together was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

After first lift the leg coating peel off.
The
Jack in general looks bent. Also it doesn't feel like it can hold 7k lbs like the manufacturer says.

I am a returning customer after making several purchases with trailer.com. I Received the item very quickly like others in the past. Great price. Installed it within minutes. Great product! Will do business with etrailer.com again.

by:

So far, excellent product. Used it to replace the factory jack on my Big Tex car trailer as it was damaged and bent the snap ring plate. Easy to install/setup and appears to be much sturdier so far than the swivel snap ring jack it replaced.

by:

First, I have been trailering since the '70's. My current trailer with boat weighs 8800 lbs and has a tongue weight of 1120 lbs. The tongue jack provided by the manufacturer was of marginal quality and had inadequate lift. I had replaced that with a 2500 lb jack with good travel, but that required very high cranking effort and had been repaired once. I have been looking for a well built and stable tongue jack for some time. Based on the description, the Trailer Valet JXS seemed like a good choice.
The "good" is that it is heavy gage, very stable when extended, and the foot plate is large and fits well.
The "not good" is that the description of this jack's capacity is highly inaccurate. The jack was raised once with a new 20 volt two speed cordless drill; on the second try this completely drained the battery. The crank handle is of hefty construction but is much too small. The cranking effort required is MUCH too high. I am certain that if this jack was actually loaded to its advertised 7000 lb capacity, it would not be possible to turn the crank. Its ability to lift 1120 lbs with a cordless drill more than once is simply not true.
I have bought most of my trailer parts from etrailer for years, and will continue to do so, but I will be wary of your reviews based on this experience.

Both the product and the website are great. I ordered a trailer jack and there was some complications with UPS and the customer support at etrailer was amazing with helping me. And when I got the jack it was easy to install and worked great.
