Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.
Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The leaf springs provide the attachment points for your trailer's axle, suspending it from the frame of your trailer. Each spring flexes to absorb road shock as you travel, allowing the axle to move somewhat independently of the rest of your trailer. This helps to reduce wear and tear on the trailer and also ensures a smooth ride.
Double-eye leaf springs attach to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. One end of this spring will attach directly to the hanger with a suspension bolt. The other end will attach to shackle straps that are suspended from a hanger. These straps allow the spring to move and pivot so that it can better compensate for uneven pavement. If you have a tandem- or triple-axle trailer, the shackle straps will be attached to the equalizer that connects multiple springs.
To mount this spring, you will need hangers, shackle straps, and suspension bolts. If you are simply replacing a spring, you may still have hangers welded onto your trailer. You should, however, replace your shackle straps because they are usually the first component to wear out. You may choose to replace old suspension bolts as well. It is recommended that you replace the other leaf spring in your setup at the same time. Because springs can sag and elongate as they wear, this new spring may not exactly match the old one, and the alignment of your trailer could be affected.
If you are fabricating a trailer, you will need to purchase a hanger kit for installation. To determine the type of hanger kit that you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring that you have, as well as your axle capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications. Hangers and other suspension components can also be purchased separately if there isn't a complete kit that works for your setup.

Broken spring on our 33 foot Salem trailer halted our vacation. etrailer had the exact spring replacement for our Salem (used the 'select vehicle' guide), and I received them within 2 days of ordering as promised. Did the installation myself and found them to be an exact fit - glad I ordered extra hanger bolts. Our vacation is back on! Thank you for all your help!!
Good item fit was direct replacement for my original leaf springs.
Looks like HD Quality. Easy install and perfect fit. I replaced all four on my tandem and it took about 30 minutes per side to install. Now getting the 25 year old original parts off the trailer frame and axles is a chapter in its self. I ordered the Never Fail bushings and hardware kit, u-bolt kit, along with new equalizers to go with the new springs. Good thing too because every thing was worn badly. The new parts gave me at least 2 more inches of space between the frame and the axles. The true test will be when I load it up with logs and hit the road. I added some pics to give you an idea of what I had before and 1 after.
I purchased a set of these leafs for a utility trailer and they worked perfectly.
Positive ExperienceI recommend etrailer. the price was better than I'd seen locally or online, although it happens that the size and type I needed was a particularly good deal. The service and shipping were surprisingly prompt, and when the box arrived, everything was as advertised.
While replacing four leaf springs is about as much fun as shopping for socks, etrailer at least made ordering a positive experience.
I actually found the video helpful as well. I've included a picture of what mine actually looked like. A breaker bar is a very handy tool.
If there very old and have spent some time overloaded, they certainly could flatten and end up an inch longer than original. It may be helpful to take some of the other measurements on the the spring, and check the information on the axle to find its weight rating. That will make it significantly easier to find appropriate springs.
--I make my living with my 2008 cargo trailer. On the way to a job, my leaf springs broke on one side and as I nursed the trailer back home afterwards, the other side broke. I ordered all the parts needed from etrailer using their measuring guidelines to get the correct leaf springs and hardware. Having never replaced leaf springs before made me nervous but given the fact that etrailer's website is very comprehensive, I found the correct parts that I needed easily. My parts were delivered quickly and I had the old broken springs off and the new ones installed and was back on the road with only a couple days of down time. I'm very happy with etrailer and will recommended them again and again.
I found etrailer online when I searched for leaf springs for my landscape trailer. I am very pleased at the fast delivery and wide range of good quality trailer products and the helpful knowledge etrailer has on it's website. I replaced my leaf springs on my trailer. The new springs I ordered was a perfect fit.
Parts fit well, I have use ETrailer in the past, they always deliver.
It was a great investment. I follow a group of trailer owners who have posted their factory springs breaking/snapping. I like that we can grease them before long trips. The springs gave me the peace of mind I needed before heading out on a cross country trip.
After discovering a flat spring on my travel trailer, 2000 miles away from home. I called etrailer and consulted with Cailee (customer service) to ensure I selected the correct size spring, she was awesome! She was very knowledgable of the product, handled my complete order, ensured it shipped the same day so I could get it installed and not delay my trip.
The spring actually arrived a day early! Install went great, was easy and fitment was perfect!
Thank you to Cailee for all the help!!!! I will shop etrailer again in the future, they've truly earned my business!
They look good and better than what came off trailer. I like also have a clip around the leaves. I will move the AZ spring to left rear do to more arch for clearance. Will add new nylon bushing while doing the change. I am very happy with this order. Thank You for your help over the phone for this order.
First I want to thank you for NOT sending out a review question 2 days after shipping the product !
Everything for my new springs came in a timely manner and were as advertised. I did have to call because the springs I ordered were too stiff. No problem I returned them and got the ones i should have ordered. Trailer rides much better than when it was new.
Installed easily on my trailer. My trailer sits level again and I expect a much smoother ride next time I haul cabinets on it. One of the old leaf springs broke. I replaced both. Originally I ordered the wrong size but Alexis in customer service was extremely helpful in getting the correct size reordered and helping me return the wrong size ones.
I bought springs, shackle bolts, and u-bolts and plates. Everything was great and fit perfectly. Only issue were the u bolts which were not galvanized. However, at a local trailer store, I bought galvanized U bolts for $4.50 each.
For the DYIers, taking the old ones off took more than 4 hours for each side. My existing shackle bolts were so heavily rusted that I had to cut three off with a hack saw. Difficulty was confined space to operate hack saw with boat still on trailer. However, reassembling the new springs was less than 45 minutes each side.
Must have tools are large diameter 3/4-13/16-7/8 deep sockets (6 point), 2 2 foot long breaker bars and a can of PB blaster.
For safety: Good quality jack stands, minimum of 3--don't rely on the front trailer jack as it may roll.
By the way, I did these myself and I am 64 years old.
Not much to say about this. I broke a spring while traveling through heavy road construction on I-80 in Northern Nevada. I ordered a new spring from etrailer on the Internet. It arrived in two days and I discovered I had ordered the wrong size when I tried to install it. I immediately contacted etrailer and they sent a new spring immediately. It arrived in three days later. It was an exact replacement and bolted right in and I was back on the road. What else can I say? Great product and great service!
Product is a perfect fit. It was easy to install. Alot easier to install than the old broken one was to remove. I'm VERY happy and will use etrailer for anything else I may need.
Perfect fit for my trailer. Seem to be well built. Though they are stamped China. But what you gonna do right. If you need them, you need them. Been on the trailer for a couple months now. And seem to be holding up to the abuse.
Replaced both leaf springs, hangers, and shocks on a Dexter 3500lb axle. Entire process took just over an hour.
These guys made ordering easy! No long drawn out questions. Shipping was fast and right. If I ever need anything of this nature again I will definitely use them again.
UPS is the shipper here. UPS tracking is poor at the moment. This package arrived one day later than predicted early on. Given that 20% of the country seems to prefer sitting at home to working, I guess thats not so bad. Product is Chinese but appears excellent. Fit is perfect.
I need new springs for a cargo trailer i am converting to a portable observatory for my telescope. and they had the part and it came in the mail in good time. the springs fit perfectly. only regret is I need more trailer parts to complete the project and I could have saved on shipping had I ordered it all at once.
Thank you for helping get the order quicker without extra coast.
Some parts were not as pictured in add. When I call to let them know about a problem, they took care of the problem and had the correct parts to me within two days. Love doing business with a company that cares.
I installed these on an 8yr old landscape traile as preventative maintenance. Itngetsvused often, and loads get leftnin the trailer for long periods of time.
. Dimensions and ratings were exactly what the original mfg of the trailer recommended.
Unfortunately, these springs are much softer. I used to be able a cubic yard of rock with this trailer. Now I risk the tires rubbing on the fenders once I load about 1,500lbs into the trailer.
(Trailer is all aluminum, 3,500lb rating, 680lb empty).
Will be removing these springs and buying better 3,500lb springs. That's what I get for trying to save a buck.
Great product and excellent customer se rvice.
