Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The leaf springs provide the attachment points for your trailer's axle, suspending it from the frame of your trailer. Each spring flexes to absorb road shock as you travel, allowing the axle to move somewhat independently of the rest of your trailer. This helps to reduce wear and tear on the trailer and also ensures a smooth ride.

Slipper leaf springs attach to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. The eye of this spring will attach to the front hanger with a suspension bolt. The slipper end of the spring will slide into the rear hanger. If you have a tandem- or triple-axle trailer, the slipper end will slide into the equalizer that connects multiple springs. The shape of the slipper end of a leaf spring may vary slightly due to differences among trailer manufacturers. Because of this, it's important to check your leaf spring's slipper end before purchasing a replacement spring.

To mount this spring, you will need hangers, a suspension bolt, and possibly a spring keeper bolt, depending on the design of the rear hanger. If you are simply replacing a spring, you may still have hangers welded onto your trailer, but it would be wise to replace the bolts as they can experience wear. It is also recommended that you replace the other leaf spring in your setup at the same time. Because springs can sag and elongate as they wear, this new spring may not exactly match the old one, and the alignment of your trailer could be affected.

If you are fabricating a trailer, you will need to purchase a hanger kit for installation. To determine the type of hanger kit that you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring that you have, as well as your axle capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications. Hangers and other suspension components can also be purchased separately if there isn't a complete kit that works for your setup.

Excellent spring quality for my custom motorcycle trailer. Arrived quickly. Glad I ordered a nylon bushing though. It didn't come with one for the open ended side and it should have.

Fortunately, one spring broke a leaf so I naturally replaced both. I could feel the difference and all the noises were gone. Just like plumbing, replace everything involved, bolts, washers, etc. I don't think I will ever have to replace them again.

Comments
Still working the same as the day I installed them. Still quiet and smooth.

Alyssa did a outstanding job assisting me with the right parts for my trailer and I might add they arrived 3 days early, I was most impressed with how quick I got the parts and the ease in tracking it. They have my business ion the future. Thank You Alyssa.

by:

Everything fit perfect. I had to replace the leaf springs on my boat trailer. I have a 24' fiberglass boat that is launched and retrieved in the salt water the original springs only lasted 7 years. The new springs are heavier duty and painted or coated with a better material. Over al very very pleased.

by:

The springs went right in without any problems. Very quick shipping.

by:

Super easy to install! What they recommended to me was the perfect spring replacement. Just wish I would've bought four new bolts instead of two, lol. I'm loving etrailer so far! Keep up the great work!
Pics are before and after. They obviously don't sell old springs. :)

by:

Everything came and I was amazed at the fast shipping. I just finished installing everything and it all fit like a glove. Will need some more parts for the bunks later and will shop with you again. Enclosed you will find the parts I ordered and before and after photos. Thanks Alot

I like shopping for trailer parts on this site. It’s easy to search, the product quality and pricing never disappoints and the parts arrived very quickly.

by:

I have had these on my trailer for a year. They installed easy and have held up well. Good price and a good product. Thank you.

by:

These springs fit my trailer perfectly and provide a great ride for my boat.

by:

Had these on for a year under a 20 foot pontoon. Easy install and exact match. Old springs were shot and dragging tires on the fenders. These have held up great even on some rough gravel roads.

Great price, fast delivery, and trailer is back to new.

by:

I received my new leaf springs and bushings way earlier than expected! Installation was quick and easy! So glad to have my boat back in the water again! Thank you etrailer for the great customer service!

by:

Parts were delivered on time and the order was correct.

by:

Fast shipping, easy to find your trailer suspension parts and good quality.

by:

Great! Happy to have a reliable source for parts while refurbishing my trailer.
Great customer service. Efficient delivery.

by:

Easy install and greatly improved how my car trailer handled. Full disclosure though... Someone had installed one eye-to-eye spring instead of a slipper spring on one of the axles on the left side of the trailer. Caused it to buck to the right of you hit a larger bump in the road. All nice n smooth now....

by:

I replaced the original leaf springs that came on my EZLoader trailer with these and they have done me well. I have trailer the boat for a couple thousand miles and everything is holding up fine and there seems to be no sag in the springs.

by:

Worked perfectly. Glad I replaced them. Little did I know the main spring on one of the trailer's leaf pack had broken in half. The only thing keeping it together was the pressure from the rusting u bolts. Be prepared, I had to cut the bolt and u bolts off with a cut off wheel the old hardware was so rusted. If you have a doubt about your leaf springs, don't take a chance, replace them.

Mever has someones words rang so true! I had a leaf snap in the Siskious far away from civilization as we know it. 60 mph snap! The fender ped down and all I saw was smoke, and POP! Tire down. Now Im no machanic but I wasnt leavin my boat roadside out there. So I built a suspension with some construction wood in my truck. That wooden spring lasted 250 miles till I was home. Moral of my story, listen to this man. Replace that old fatigued steel!

  • Looking for a C-Hook Leaf Spring That Measures 26-1/2 Inches Long
We have the 4-Leaf Spring C-Hook Spring, # SP-264275, that measures 26-1/2 inches from center of the bolt eye to the edge of the C-hook. See attached picture diagram. Unfortunately, we do not have a spring with only 3 leafs in this style leaf spring.

The 26-1/4 inch measurement of # SP-264275 is taken center on center from one bolt to the other. On the diagram I've attached it's measurement "C". This is the measurement you'll want to make on your springs. Then find the same length for a replacement. Keep in mind that your springs, being used and worn, may have elongated so your might be a little longer than the new ones.

  • Will Slipper Spring for 4,300-lb Trailer Axles Work For Axle Rated For 2600-Lb Axle
I did some research and for a 2-inch square axle the rating can be between 2,200 to 3,500 lbs. It sounds like the tag on your trailer axle falls within that range. The 4-Leaf Slipper Spring, part # SP-264275 you asked about is designed to work with trailer axles up to 4,300-lbs. This can result in a little stiffer ride but the dimensions are most important so if the mounting dimensions are a match for your trailer, # SP-264275 will work great for you.

Axle capacity is usually found on a plate or sticker affixed to the axle itself. 3-leaf slipper springs in the 1-3/4-inch width you referenced can be seen on the included link. • Replacement Boat Trailer Slipper Spring for a 1998 Calkins Boat Trailer
Based on what you have described and the measurements you have taken I do believe that slipper spring # SP-264275 is correct. The old springs have probably stretched and worn enough to throw the exact measurement off a bit.
