Nice kit, everything fit like it should, easy to install, with the wear this trailer had, obviously had to do a little tapping here and there.

by:

Full disclosure: we boat in brackish water in Florida, but I always hose the trailer down afterward.
Springs work as they should and installation was straightforward. However, I’m not sure how long they’ll last. After only 5 or 6 launches/ retrievals last year, this is what they look like now. The springs and equalizer must’ve been spray-painted at the factory, not powder-coated. I believe made in China. I even soaked the bolts and links in motor oil before installing to stave-off corrosion. I just hope we don’t have a failure on the road any time soon because of this accelerated corrosion!

by:

service was excellent as usual delivered earlier than promised. I was however disappointed in what I received. The ubolts were not as promised. they only had 2 inches of thread I needed about 21/2. This was a surprise as I was told they would have 4 inches. This meant a trip to an automotive store to get what I needed. now I have 8 ubolts that are not much good to me. How unlike etrailer.

Comments
I checked and we do not have nine sixteenth suspension bolts that will have a longer thread length.

Trailer has 13000 miles, much of it on rough highways. I realized there was looseness in the suspension and could see the shackle holes were showing some elongation. This kit restored it to good running condition. The marks on the parts indicate they are of the same manufacture as the original equipment from LCI. I am very satisfied with the results. I also changed the original equipment brake assemblies at the same time installing Axletek self adjusting brake assemblies.

by:

I received this product and had a manufacturing issue. After a few emails back and forth I was fully refunded. Unfortunately this stuff happens and I wanted to thank etrailer for taking care of the issue. Thank you and I look forward to continued business.

by:

After all of the bad weather I was able to finish installing my new suspension system on my 1992 Lance Fifth Wheel. The task was much easier than I had anticipated. The instructional video you provide access to were a big help. Other than having to grind off a nut or two I had no difficulties (See attached photos). The 'list' that had developed on the fifth wheel is now resolved, and towing has already proven to be better.

by:

I ended up buying something different. Very poor quality. I did email etrailer to see if they would do something and waited a couple of weeks for a response and I’m still waiting. After the second nut and bolt combo stripped I pulled everything from this kit off and put it where it belonged. In the garbage. Sorry for the bad review but I tried.

This kit worked out perfect for my 16' 89 layton travel trailer. I have the elusive 2800 lb axles (which axle tube diameter matches 3500lb axles) which I have been told by etrailer tech support were made specially for the RV industry. I also replaced the leaf springs but had to get them elsewhere because etrailer does not stock them. The info on the 2800 lb axles I got from etrailer was invaluable in being able to locate the leaf springs I needed.

by:

The suspension kit was just what I was expecting they are high Quality for the price I payed I would definitely get parts from etrailer again.

by:

Used this for a 2009 MFI trailer, so far so good after 1 year of use in salt water. great product.

by:

Gave these and another set to my mechanic for install. He liked the other set and this Suspension Kit was put in the corner of the garage. The issue was the threads. They weren’t as smooth as the other set. Guess I should return this set

by:

Very high quality replacement springs and bolts

by:

I have been running the axle and parts on my aluminum trailer for a year now. They have performed flawlessly. As I travel many miles a year pulling my bass boat all over, never worry about the trailer, only the bearings!!!!

by:

I need to order another shackle kit....my buddies trailer was in bad shape

by:

These were the exact replacement but better quality than factory.

by:

Just what I ordered. Right on time

Comments
Still very satisfied with the product.

by:

Seems like a good product haven't tested it yet only thing that could be better is the way it's shipped bolts were all loose in box which could cause the threads to get mangled

by:

Everything was in the box - all parts fit as they should

by:

All arrived on the date committed and was complete.

by:

Excellent replacement parts for worn out trailer suspension. Fitment was great. And shipped fast.

by:

Converted my 30 ft home built trailer to carry my 25 ft sailboat with 3 1/2 ft keel. I needed new springs to carry her weight Your parts arrived on time. So far all is going well on the upgrade. Thanks for the positive information and can do attitude of your company.

by:

Excellent product. Everything fit together as it should. Put simply... I was very impressed.

Well, its been a year and I am still very impressed with the suspension parts I got from eTrailer. I have ran my car trailer from Michigan down to southern Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Had no issues what so ever. The trailer handled beautifully.

I bought these to replace the hangers on an old boat trailer, I tried to source these parts locally from several trailer mfg in the area and no one could get them and that's when I found them here at etrailer.com. the kit was a perfect match to what I had and was an easy replacement. The quality was excellent as well.

Well, my suspension replacement and over/under swap went great! You guys were very helpful in ensuring I got the right parts and didn't waste money on shipping and other parts I didn't need. It tows like a dream now. I hardly even notice it behind me and I really don't have to slow down to .05 MPH for every little dip in the road.

Ask the Experts about this etrailer Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

  • Are Bushings Required with the Tandem-Axle Trailer Equalizer Kit # AP233
The equalizers of the part # AP233 have bushings in them already. The leaf springs you would use these with would already have bushings as well most likely. Typically people do not need to buy bushings with this kit or with this kit plus leaf springs.

The threads of the nuts that come with the Suspension Kit for Tandem-Axle Trailers # AP233 that you referenced are considered lock nuts. They should thread pretty tightly once the nut gets significantly onto the bolt which prevents it from backing off.

  • What Is Normal Deflection Of Leaf Springs On Trailer
The typical spring deflection for leaf springs on a trailer is up to 1-1/2 inches when at capacity. The recommended clearance with leaf spring suspension on an unloaded trailer is between 2 - 2-1/2 inches. It sounds like you have a little more than that since you flipped your axle. Leaf springs only tend to deflect about 1-1/2 inches when carrying a load.

As long as the new equalizer has the same hole spacing as the existing equalizer, it'll work just fine. You'll also want to make sure the height of the equalizer is also the same. Put a ruler across the center of the two bottom bolt holes, and measure up to the center to the top bolt hole. If this distance is about two inches, then the # AP233 would be the correct replacement.

  • How Tight Should Trailer Suspension Hanger/Equalizer Bolts Get Torqued
Suspension bolts are not designed to be torqued down tightly as this prevents the suspension from being able to move like it needs to be able to do. So the included solution with the kit part # AP233 is the lock nuts of the kit. The nuts have nylock in them which means that they will not back off regardless of how "loose" they are installed on the bolts. Basically you tighten the nuts down so that the excess side to side movement is removed from them but the shackles can still freely move...

In regards to trailer suspension kits like the Suspension Kit for Tandem-Axle Trailers part # AP233, the shackle bolt heads are indeed seating into the hangers via the knurling on the bolt. If you hold a wrench on the bolt head and tighten the nut, this will seat the knurling. The bolt does not pivot on the outer shackle links but rather the spring/equalizer pivots on the bolt. There is no torque spec for this bolt/nut, you'll stop tightening when the spring/equalizer does not have any...

  • Determining What Hanger Spacing For Tandem Axle Trailer Using 28-3/4" Long Leaf Springs
I would be happy to help, but the only way to find the exact location for mounting the hangers to your boat trailer is going to be by tacking the hangers in place and moving them around until you get the suspension correct. When done correctly the shackle straps on the equalizer should point like a W like in the included picture. Your 730mm spring translates to 28-3/4" which is not a very common length so there is not exact hanger spacing anywhere for a spring that length. On all of the...
