Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The leaf springs provide the attachment points for your trailer's axle, suspending it from the frame of your trailer. Each spring flexes to absorb road shock as you travel, allowing the axle to move somewhat independently of the rest of your trailer. This helps to reduce wear and tear on the trailer and also ensures a smooth ride.

Double-eye leaf springs attach to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. One end of this spring will attach directly to the hanger with a suspension bolt. The other end will attach to shackle straps that are suspended from a hanger. These straps allow the spring to move and pivot so that it can better compensate for uneven pavement. If you have a tandem- or triple-axle trailer, the shackle straps will be attached to the equalizer that connects multiple springs.

To mount this spring, you will need hangers, shackle straps, and suspension bolts. If you are simply replacing a spring, you may still have hangers welded onto your trailer. You should, however, replace your shackle straps because they are usually the first component to wear out. You may choose to replace old suspension bolts as well. It is recommended that you replace the other leaf spring in your setup at the same time. Because springs can sag and elongate as they wear, this new spring may not exactly match the old one, and the alignment of your trailer could be affected.

If you are fabricating a trailer, you will need to purchase a hanger kit for installation. To determine the type of hanger kit that you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring that you have, as well as your axle capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications. Hangers and other suspension components can also be purchased separately if there isn't a complete kit that works for your setup.

These springs perform better than the original springs. Installed very quickly and easily. Very pleased with all the products I have ordered from etrailer

by:

Easy install.Replaced 40 year old springs that were broken in more than one place. Took two hours to install. Raised thr trailer six inches and work the way they are supposed to.

by:

Replaced a set of worn and broken 3500lb springs. We usually haul mulch and brush on this trailer. We have 2" increase in deck height over empty and loaded. Wonderful improvement.

I upgrade the leaf springs only because the manufacturer place bare minimum weight resistances and quality. I dont recommend exceeding your axle capacity though, my axles were well within my upgrade. It did raise the height ever so slightly 1. Not noticeable from bottom or my top stairs Ive made for my entry door. I wont be breaking any more springs on this Toyhauler, and I feel a difference in towing and stability. I had an alignment performed by professionals right after installing, I didnt want drifting and tire wear to be another problem. Hope this helps someone.

  • Recommended Leaf Spring Replacement For A 2019 Dutchmen Kodiak Ultra-Lite 283BHSL
Definitely looks like the springs are being overloaded and need to be replaced. You can use higher rated leaf springs but, the higher you go the stiffer the ride will be. Since we know the weight class with your axles the next step would be to measure from eyelet to eyelet to figure out the correct length. With the leaf spring being flat it's going to measure a bit longer than it typically would so we would just need to find something close to the measurement. At 4,000lbs we have a...

  • Replacement Leaf Springs For A Dexter 4,400 Lb Axle
I can certainly point you in the right direction. Unfortunately we do not have access to Dexter's serial number database, and I cannot recommend springs based off of axle specs. If only it were so easy right? The best way to go about replacing leaf springs is to have you measure the overall length of the spring. Leaf springs are measured from center eye to center eye straight across. It is preferred if you jack up the trailer and measure the spring while not under a load. A very common...

  • Suspension Upgrades for 2015 Forest River XLR Hyperlite 29HFS
It looks like you've been having quite the experience lately with your 2015 Forest River XLR Hyperlite 29HFS. There is no kit available but I can help you find the parts you need. The first thing you will want to do is replace the broken spring. I can see on the corner of your axle tag there that you have 4,400 lb axles. You will need a replacement leaf spring with the same or slightly higher capacity. To find the best replacement you need to measure one of your other leaf springs that...

  • Recommended Leaf Spring that is 26 Inches Long for a 3,500 lbs Axle
Since you have a 3,500 lbs axle, I recommend the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,000-lb Trailer Axles item # e22YR. These are for 4,000 lbs axles which will still work great with your Gulf Stream trailer. As far as your 26" measurement goes. If this was taken with both sides of your trailer on the ground you'll want to jack up one side and remeasure the lifted side. The springs tend to stretch out over time and this will give you the most accurate measurement to go off of. If your 26"...

  • Can 4,400 lb Axles Use 26 Inch, 6,000 lb Leaf Springs
Hi Wes, Yep, if you'd like you can definitely go with the 6,000 lb capacity, 26" long 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles # e94SR. It's not going to hurt anything, though the ride will be a bit stiffer compared to the 4,500 lb # e27SR leaf springs. If you're okay with that though, and like the added robustness of the 6k springs, you most certainly can do that.

  • Replacement, Heavier Duty 26 Inch Leaf Spring For 4,400 lb Axles
We do have a more robust option to replace your 072-078-00 double-eye springs, which are for 4,400 lb axles and have a 2,200 lb capacity, like you mentioned. So for a higher capacity option, I do not recommend going any higher than a 5,000 lb spring. Anything above that is going to give you a very stiff, bouncing, uncomfortable ride. So I recommend going with either of the following: - 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,500-lb Trailer Axles - 26" Long # e27SR - 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for...

  • Replacement Leaf Spring for 2020 Grand Design Reflection 240RL
The etrailer leaf spring part # e27SR is the correct capacity and length to work on your 2020 Grand Design Reflection 240RL. It having a couple more leaf's would not be an issue at all either. Since the height would be slightly different you would want to replace all of your springs on your trailer. Since Grand Design is kind enough to list certain parts for their trailers I can confirm you have a 33" wheelbase on your 2020 Grand Design Transcend 27BHS. This means the MORryde Rubber Equalizers # MR87ZR will fit your trailer. Although I'm fairly certain the # MR46ZR is the right wet bolt kit, they do not list the shackle size so I recommend measuring. If you have 2-1/4" shackles then this is the correct kit. If you measure center hole to center hole and find it is 3-1/8" you need #...

To determine which 6-leaf double eye spring you need, we will need to know the weight capacity of the axles on your trailer. We currently have two different six leaf double-eye springs available. 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,500-lb Trailer Axles, # e27SR measures 26 inches long. 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 7,000-lb Trailer Axles, # e64SR, measures 24-7/8 inches long.

  • Tandem Axle Hanger Kit # APT9 Recommendation for a Homemade Trailer
The suspension kit that would be the closest to what you have on your trailer would definitely be the Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit # APT9. The minor dimensional differences would not cause an issue. Since the equalizers would be 3/4 of an inch longer I would recommend you compensate for that with hanger spacing. The distance on center between the spring hanger bolt holes for dual axle setups, with the # APT9 Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit, should be 29-1/2 inches for double eye springs...

  • Can 26" Double-Eye Leaf springs Replace 25-1/2" Double-Eye Leaf Springs
Hi Tim, A half inch difference between your old springs and some new springs would be well within tolerance so you would not need to replace the equalizer. The equalizer end of the # e27SR will sit slightly more in towards to the center hanger but it's such a small amount that it won't make a huge difference. You will want to replace the U-bolts when swapping out the leaf springs since they get stretched when torqued down and shouldn't be reused. With you having a 4,400lb axle it should...

The 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e27SR uses 6 leaves that are 3/8" thick which will make the spring pack 2-1/4" tall. When you add that to the 3" axle and 9/16" spring seat you have a total thickness of 5-13/16". That leaves you 1-3/16" for the spring plate and nuts.

  • Measuring a Double-Eye Trailer Leaf Spring Length to Find a Replacement
When measuring a trailer leaf spring it has to be done with no weight on the spring. You can do this by jacking up one side of the trailer and measuring the spring on that side. Or by removing a spring. It is likely that the springs on your trailer are shorter than 26 inches eye to eye. They also tend to flatten out some over time. I suspect that you actually need a 25-1/4 inch spring but measuring without the weight on the spring would be the way to determine what will fit. I have included...
