Double-Eye Leaf Spring Basics

Leaf springs, as you probably know, make up an important part of your trailer's suspension. Their main purpose is to absorb road shock as you travel, as well as allow your axle(s) to move independently of the rest of the trailer.

Double-Eye Spring Parts

To mount this leaf spring, you'll need hangers welded onto your trailer frame - which you probably already have in place - as well as shackle straps and a suspension bolt. It's a good idea to replace your existing straps and bolt while you're under there working on things because they tend to wear out quickly. One thing that could help keep them from wearing out too fast would be upgrading to galvanized or zinc-plated hardware. Doing so will boost the corrosion resistance and, therefore, the longevity of your trailer.

We also always recommend replacing both of your springs at the same time because it's not unusual for leaf springs to sag and elongate over time. If you replace just the one, there's a good chance that it won't match your existing spring on the opposite side of your trailer, and that can mess up your alignment.

Using the on line chat we figured out what trailer spring to use. Using measurements from my old saggy broken springs, the Chat tech recommended this spring and Nailed It! RV is back on the road and riding at the correct height. Thanks so much!

4200 miles so far this year and still working great!

by:

The exact match to replace a leaf spring that had broken on my raft trailer due to getting weighed down w/an incredible amount of snow 2 seasons ago. Considering the customer service I've received from etrailer.com as well, I won't shop anywhere else for products related to my various trailers, vehicles and boats. Thanks etrailer and thanks George J!

by:

I wasn’t sure that is what my trailer needed until I installed them. It raised my trailer 3/4” so I knew that’s what was needed.

by:

everything worked just as expected. the specs and info on the site were the reason I chose etrailer.com

by:

Springs were exactly what I needed. Fit perfect. Had 1 issue with shipping but Customer Service was great!! Quick email to them and they had a new set of spring out for shipping the same day. Had springs 2 days later! Would def do business again.

by:

Would have rated higher as shipping was quick and all was right , except the nuts that were sent for the spring bolts were half inch not nine sixteenth, so had to make a trip to the hardware for the proper nuts.

by:

Service was outstanding! Cannot rate products until they get some use. Curious to see how they stand up to the salt water here on the coast.

by:

Right size and delivered on time.

It has been 1 year since installing these springs and EVERYTHING is absolutely just fine. My Pontoon trailer rides super nice now! Thanks etrailer!

The springs seem fine, beefy and solid. I am disappointed in the bushings. They seem somewhat thin and may wear out soon.

  • Replacement Double Eye Leaf Spring For a Trailer with 21-3/4" Eye To Eye Measurement
I see you were looking at the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e84SR for 2,000lb trailer axles. This spring has an eye to eye measurement of 20-3/8" when fully relaxed and will extend all the way to 22" when the spring flattens out due to weight. If you are measuring worn out springs that are nearly flat this may be the correct spring for your trailer. Our next largest spring is currently the 23-1/8" Spring # e59SR which is rated for a 3,500lb trailer axle.

  • Replacement Leaf Spring Options for a 2,000 lb Trailer Axle
Hey Estaban, thanks for reaching out! It sounds like you're needing either the 20-3/8" Long # e84SR or the 26" Long # e77SR which are both double eye springs rated for a 2,000 lb trailer axle. You'll need to measure the center eye to center eye distance of your current leaf spring when it's unloaded (the weight of the trailer lifted off of it as well) to make sure you get the correct length. I'm not seeing an order from you with us here at etrailer.com, but if you can get me your order...

  • Replacement Leaf Springs, Shackles and Equalizers for 2012 Koala 21CS
For a replacement leaf spring the part # e84SR would work great as this is a 2,000 lb axle leaf spring with exact dimension you have of 2-3/8 inches. For replacement shackles we have the part # TRSL313 which is the size you need of 3-1/8 inches. For wet bolts you'd want the part # 126B2 and then for cushioned equalizers you could use the part # LC279687.

  • Hub, Leaf Spring, and U-Bolt Kit for 2,000 lb Trailer Axle
The Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Idler Hubs # 20545I-EZ-72-15 is designed to fit 2,000 lb trailer axles. If that's what you have then this will fit and the U-bolt kit part # APUBR-10 that you referenced would also work since that's what it's designed to fit. The leaf spring part # e84SR is also a 2k axle spring but you'll want to make sure the length matches what you need too. This has an overall length of 20-3/8 inch.

The 3-leaf spring # e84SR might work as it measures 20-3/8" center eye to center eye and it's rated for 2,000 lbs. • What Would Cause Trailer Suspension Equalizer to Sit Unlevel
It sounds like you installed leaf springs that weren't the correct length for your setup. Looking at your equalizer it looks like your springs are too long. The simplest solution would be to have your front and rear suspension hangers removed and reinstalled further out and that would get rid of the issue. Sometimes a shorter length equalizer can help but for you I don't think there's a way to get a shorter one in there.

For example, if your rear leaf spring hangers are 7/8" tall or shorter than you would want to use part # APS1 but if they are taller then this you would want to use part # APS2 or part # APS3. • Can 750 lb Trailer With 3,500 lb Axle Use Lower Rated Leaf Springs
Yes, you can use a lower-rated leaf spring for your 750 lb trailer, though the capacity of your trailer is going to be that of its lowest-rated component. I assume your trailer is 750 lbs unloaded, so if you were to change to a 1,500 lb rated leaf spring, for example, then your trailer would only be able to have a fully loaded weight of 1,500 lbs. In regards to the correct replacements, that is going to depend on whether or not you have double-eye springs or slipper springs and a couple...
