Double-Eye Leaf Spring Basics

Leaf springs, as you probably know, make up an important part of your trailer's suspension. Their main purpose is to absorb road shock as you travel, as well as allow your axle(s) to move independently of the rest of the trailer.

Double-Eye Spring Parts

To mount this leaf spring, you'll need hangers welded onto your trailer frame - which you probably already have in place - as well as shackle straps and a suspension bolt. It's a good idea to replace your existing straps and bolt while you're under there working on things because they tend to wear out quickly. One thing that could help keep them from wearing out too fast would be upgrading to galvanized or zinc-plated hardware. Doing so will boost the corrosion resistance and, therefore, the longevity of your trailer.

We also always recommend replacing both of your springs at the same time because it's not unusual for leaf springs to sag and elongate over time. If you replace just the one, there's a good chance that it won't match your existing spring on the opposite side of your trailer, and that can mess up your alignment.

I'm happy with the product and speed of shipping.

There was a clerical error on their side. I know this because I called this morning. Whoever placed the order misspelled my email. So I didn't receive a confirmation, invoice, or tracking number for a critical overnight order.

Instead of putting "Yahoo.com", they entered "Yaho.com" so I didn't receive any follow up info.

It will not stop me from making future orders.

by:

Great product. My fault by ordering too short. Paul B. Worked with me and had a shorter and heavier version in the mail.

Trailer sticker for GVW is unreadable so I was in SWAG mode on leaf weight. Product looks great though, just mot enough clearance between tire and fender.
PAUl B is very helpful. After the springs, on to the full brake system replacement.

by:

Perfect fit and easy installation.

by:

I think etrailer is excellent, great customer service and fast delivery

The spring looks great and now I just have to put it together. I realize I needed some h bolts to hold the spring in because the others broke. So I will have to order more.

I am sorry to hear that the spring did not work out for you. Were you able to find one that fit? How did you measure your old spring? Sometimes the springs can flatten out and can be up to a half inch longer when measured than what you need.

by:

I ordered the wrong springs. I contacted “Paul” who is generating a return label. I’m being charged [XX] on a purchase of [XX] for the springs needless to say no more e trailer for me. A local shop had the right springs at [XX] each

  • Replacement Leaf Springs and Shackles for 2014 Evergreen Amped 28FS Toy Hauler
MORryde does have a suspension upgrade kit that I highly recommend. It comes with 1/2" thick shackles, along with wet bolts and bronze bushings. You will want to choose a kit based on the length of your current shackles. For 2-1/4" you need the # MR46ZR and for 3-1/8" the # MR76ZR. For replacement leaf springs you will need to know your axle capacity along with your spring eye to spring eye measurement. Your current leaf springs will be slightly elongated since they flatten over time so...

  • How to Find Replacement Leaf Springs for 1960 Shasta Airflyte Trailer
To find the correct replacement leaf springs for your 1960 Shasta Airflyte trailer you will need your axle capacity and the length of the leaf springs. The axle capacity can typically be found on the axle tag. Because of the age of the trailer this might not be visible. You could also use the axle diameter to find the capacity. Typical Axle Diameters Based on Axle Capacity - 1,000-lb - 2,000-lb Axles: 1-1/2 inch - 1-3/4 inch diameter - 3,500-lb Axles: 2-3/8 inch diameter - 6,000-lb - 7,200-lb...

Based on your images it does appear your trailer was built to have double eye springs rather than a slipper spring. We have them in a 23-1/8" # e59SR, 25-1/8" # e68SR or 27" # e97SR length. You will want to select the spring length slightly larger than your mounting bolt pattern. Andy, while I do like your Axle # e95SR and U-Bolt Kit # CE23002 selection of which you will need 2 of each I do have another recommendation for the suspension kit. The Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit # APT3 you found has longer equalizers designed for a 35" spacing used on larger axles. Also I do not like the shackle straps it comes with either as they are a thin steel and over time the holes will likely start to elongate. Instead you should use the Dexter Heavy-Duty Suspension Kit # K71-359-00...

  • Is There Advantage to 3 Leaf or 4 Leaf Trailer Suspension Leaf Spring
In general the differences aren't huge, but some people prefer spring packs with greater amounts of leaves as that in the unlikely event one of them break there are several others to back it up. But the thinner the leaves (to create a multi-leaf spring pack) the more likely one would be to break. The other thing to consider is that a thicker spring pack would raise the trailer up a bit if the spring was mounted above the axle. The most common spring sizes we offer for 3,500 lb axles are...
