Optronics MCL44 Series LED Side Marker Clearance Light Diagram

P2-Rated Lights

Diagram of light spread for P2 rated light

A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.

by:

Reflective, bright, LED. works for me.

by:

Perfect replacement.

by:

This is a perfect replacement for the globrite 118a/117r clearance light. Same size, same mounting holes, same look. 6 diodes. Easy install. Great service.

by:

Great product! Nice that it was mailed and not sent via courier. Got here no problems. EXACTLY what I wanted/needed! Great company to deal with!

by:

good quality

by:

They work!

by:

Worked out great!

by:

Looks just like the original

etrailer is my go to place for trailer parts. They do everything right. This light works great and is just what I was expecting. There was one minor problem. This light was the updated LED version of the 8 year old lights that came on my trailer. The lenses were even interchangeable after 8 years. This version has no room for the wires behind the surface mounted light and require a hole through the trailer body exactly where the wires exit the back of the light. This required hole is in a different place than the old lights and required drilling a new hole in the trailer. No big deal, but having enough room to house the wire in the back of the light would be more user friendly.

Comments
I am facing the same issue on my 1983 Aljo Aly. If the backplate was molded to provide enough of a stand-off to accommodate a wire nut it would be perfect! Another option would be a rubber gasket thick enough to accomplish the same thing plus seal the back of the light.

These lights from Optronics are an exact replacement for my enclosed car trailer and were an easy install. The lights are built well, illuminate brightly and priced right.
Very happy with these lights and Etrailer !!!!

Comments
The lights are still working very well, just as they were new !!

by:

Decent light, feels like good quality, lens is a nice, thick acrylic and has a nice tight fit to the backing. My only beef is that the wiring on all 9 lights I ordered was pushed through a side hole, instead of the recessed center hole that was clearly designed for channeling the wires? Otherwise, i'd have given it 5 stars. Most importantly (for my situation) I also like that these lights come a "single wire" design on the red, and a 2-wire design on the amber... EXACTLY as my trailer is wired.

by:

These are perfect replacements for the clearance lights on our RV trailer. They are bright, match to old footprint perfectly, and look even nicer. Every light works.

Comments
My comments still stand. I am happy with the purchases.

by:

I bought this a year ago to replace a burnt out running board light from another company that no longer makes them. Still working great.

by:

I brought this as a replacement for a good bride 126R/126Y on my drivers side run board. It's a great replacement. At a distance, you can't tell.

The light pattern is slightly different, but this light was a better deal than replacing 5 other lights. I happy with it

Comments
Still great

by:

Order was quickly processed and arrived in quality time. Part was as described and with little altering it worked to my expectations. I had to drill a small hole near the center of the light so it would lay flat against the fiberglass on my 40 foot 5th wheel. E-Trailer was the only site that I could find a light of that size to match the TMC GLO BRITE 126Y light on my RV. Only difference was the number and arrangement of diodes. Light replaced had 3 diodes in a line and MCL44AB has 6 arranged in the center of the light. Light works great but design needs to be altered so that wire can be directed towards the center.

by:

Item exactly as described. Quick shipping. Thank you

by:

Used these to replace the front marker lights on my Lance trailer. They are actually a perfect match for the lights that came on the trailer and were an easy install and much brighter. There is an extra hole in the base plate of the light that I drilled out and ran the wires through instead of their original hole which made it so I didn't have to drill a new hole in the trailer. As always fast shipping with etrailer.

by:

The trailer marker lamps worked great. The trailer looks like a Christmas tree when it is running down the road. The best part was being able to run all the lights off one circuit. LEDs rule.

by:

Received product in a timely manner which is great. Product as advertised on the computer and ordering from E-trailer was very simple and fast. The led marker lights fit in with my led taillights. 5 stars to e-trailer

by:

Perfect light. You can actually see the marker lights now. with the old lights thee marker lights were almost useless. I love these LED's.

by:

I wanted to use them for daytime illumination or running lights for the front of my pickup. They are just about right for catching other driver's eye. My older vehicle does not have OEM lighting for this; so I have been using the fog lamps. The most challenging has been to connect to a source that is ignition driven. Getting into and under the dash is the most difficult and finding the right wire is secondary. I should be done with the installation tomorrow and will send a picture.

  • Can Single Wire Clearance Light Be installed To Replace 2-Wire Light On Travel Trailer
If a trailer clearance light like part # MCL44AB1 is used, the one wire is the power wire for the light and the light will be grounded through the mounting hardware. If you want to use the ground wire that you have on your trailer you can install part # MCL44AB. This has a 2-wire install, where one is for the power and the second wire is for the ground.

  • How Do I Wire A 2 Wire Light In Place Of A Single Wire Light On My Camper?
The lighting on your 1987 camper van used a single power wire input and would ground the lamp through the lights mounting bracket. This is how the Optronics LED Trailer Clearance and Side Marker Light # MCL44AB1 would connect. The Optronics LED Trailer Clearance and Side Marker Light # MCL44AB uses a 2 wire connection similar to the wiring on your new lights. You will attach the red power input wire on your new lights to the red wire on your camper van. The white wire will need to be...

  • How to Install New Trailer Lights that Only Have One Wire
A trailer light that only has 1 wire means that it grounds through its mounting hardware. The single wire is the power wire. The best surface to ground a light to is steel. If steel is not available in the area the light installs you can attach a ring terminal and wire to the grounding stud and attach the other end of the wire to the original ground wire from the old light.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Lamps That Receive Power But Won't Illuminate
If you're showing power on the black wire feeding the lamp, and the bulbs are known to be good, the only thing that could cause the lamp not to illuminate is a poor ground connection. You can test this theory by getting a long length of wire and attaching one end to the negative battery terminal of the tow vehicle and touching the other end to the ground wire of the lamp while the running lights are turned on. If the lamp lights, you've confirmed that there's an interruption in the ground...

  • How do LED Sidemarker Lights Wire in to Trailer Light Wiring
When installing a sidemarker light such as this Optronics Trailer Light # MCL44AB you will want to splice into the signal wire for your trailer running lights circuit and then run the ground wire to a clean metal surface. The black wire will be the power wire and the white wire is the ground wire. I attached an FAQ on trailer wiring for you to check out also. I also attached a review video for this product for you to check out. This video shows how the light gets wired and looks when light up.

  • After Adding Side Marker Lights to Snowmobile Trailer, Some Work and Some Do Not Work
Adding the additional lights might be overloading the trailer wiring on the vehicle side. Any given wiring set up is rated for a certain amount of amperage draw. If you try disconnecting the lights that do work and the other ones light up then you know this is probably the problem. There could also be an insufficient ground at the lights that are not working or at the main trailer connector since there is now more current running through the running light circuit. Since a test light ground...

  • Power Getting to Trailer Tail Light with a Good Bulb but the Bulb Does Not Light
If power is getting all the way to the light and the bulb is good but will not come on that indicates to me that the circuit is not being completed. This would mean the ground is the problem. You can test this pretty easily by attaching the ground from the affected light directly to a negative battery terminal. The light should come on. The lights should be grounded independently and as close to where they are mounted. There should be no corrosion, paint or dirt on the ground location....

  • Troubleshooting Lighting on Vehicle that Has Power But Still Doesn't Power On
If you have power to the bulb on your truck but it's not lighting up that would indicate the issue is the ground of the light assembly. I'd start by checking to see how the ground circuit is connected and make sure it's either connected to a clean metal surface that also touches the frame or is ran back to the negative post of the battery. You can also try connecting the light directly to a vehicle battery power and ground to see if it will work that way just to verify that the light is good.

  • How To Replace a Trailer Clearance Light With One Wire Using a Light With Two Wires
If you are replacing a trailer marker/clearance light that only has one wire with a trailer marker/clearance light that has two wires like the part # MCL44AB that means the previous light grounded though the mounting hardware and the new light grounds with a single ground wire. Therefore, the ground wire will just need to be run and attached to the trailer frame. That said, I don't know which color has which function on your light so you will just need to test these for yourself if the...

The problem you are experiencing sounds like a ground issue and/or short circuit. Ground problems normally show up when there is more draw on a system such as when you have the running lights on and then use another function like a turn signal or brake light but can show up any time. • Replacement for Glo-Brite 118A Trailer Light

  • How to Install a Trailer Clearance Light with Different Color Wires
There are typically only two wires on a clearance light which are for ground and power. There is not a standard wire color to function chart on a trailer for anyone to abide by so it will be best to test them for function with a circuit tester. In order to check this all you need to do is start the vehicle, plug the trailer connector in, and test which of the two wires has power. The light should then specify which wire is for which function but you will again need to test the trailer wiring...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Turn Signal on One Side of Trailer Not Activating
You need to improve the ground on the light assembly that isn't lighting up. It's getting power but when the higher amperage draw is present on it for the turn signal/brake light circuit an insufficient ground is preventing the light from activating. One way to do this is to clean the mounting hardware of the light assembly if it grounds through the hardware or if it uses a wire you can run an additional ground wire from the light to the main ground of the trailer wiring. Since your old trailer light only utilized one wire that means the one wire was used for power and the old light got it's ground through the mounting hardware.
