Rewired my 8x4 bed trailer, and chose these fo mo betta rain proof. EZ wiring, they're working fine!

Ok, had an issue with the bulb socket for brake and turn signal. Those socket designs date back to the stone age. Hard to set the bulb for proper electrical contact. Badly needs an updated design.

by:

Really cheap.

These lights are marketed
as submersible, but based on what's in the package I'm really dubious.

The lens bodies are not sealed. As you can see My photo, each lens body has a clearance hole for the wire - No gasket, and plenty of room around the wire, So water will definitely flood in and submerge the contacts and bulb/socket If you put these on a boat trailer.

Additionally, to Make the wire connections. They give you wire nuts. For submersible wire connections, at the very least, you should use crimp butts wrapped in tape - or better yet a heat shrink crimp butt. But they give you wire nuts, which aren't even really stable against vibration, let alone moisture.

It does say 3-year warranty on the package, however, so I guess I'll be testing that out.

My dogs decided to eat the wiring on my trailer. This kit provided everything necessary to make the trailer whole again

by:

Put these on an old boat trailer. Came out great. I got some white 16 gage stranded wire to carry the ground out to each mounting place. Helps the lights stay on even when stuff gets rusty.

No problems

This is an excellent product and simple to install. As long as you have a functioning plug-in on your vehicle you’ll be happy.
Time will tell how well it holds up to water and vibration

I’ve since pulled my boat to the lake with the trailer that I installed this lighting harness on. I unplug the lights before I back down the boat ramp to assure I don’t short out the system. Other than that I am still satisfied and would recommend these to anyone. Simple to install

by:

Great replacement light kit.

by:

generally happy with product but it was missing a nut for attaching light to trailer.

by:

Works just fine

by:

The light kit works great now; however, after much sweat & experimenting. Initially, I couldn’t get any of the lights to work, then I sanded away the paint where the lights attached to get good grounds from each light bolt/screw. At that point, 1 light worked perfect while the rest remained very dim. After changing wires & tow vehicles to verify it wasn’t something wrong with that connection, I found an etrailer post about running separate ground wires from each light directly to the ground connection coming from the tow vehicle. After another run to Lowe’s & several more feet of wire - it worked. Finally!! I don’t deal with this stuff regularly so this was like looking for an electric needle in a haystack. During this process, I called etrailer & they were good enough to get ready to send me a replacement light set, thinking this one was defective. Fortunately, I didn’t need it.

by:

Excellent Service and Quality product.

by:

It was exactly what I needed and works great. Thank you guys.

by:

This is a pretty standard trailer light package. The price was good and the equipment works great. I would recommend this product. It comes with electrical clips that are garbage though so I would recommend doing something different for you connection health. Overall, I have saved it for the next time my tire explodes going down the road and takes out my lights just for added injury to my night. (lol)

by:

It is good product and I would recommend it completely.

by:

Thanks ETrailer for making my boat trailer restoration a success . I restored a 1960 boat trailer to look brand new with your help.

by:

The lighting system performed well in traveling from NY to northern Michigan and return to carry an old boat back for restoration.

by:

So far these have held up well. Been a year

by:

looks great just got to find time to put them in-thanx-steveb

by:

Easy to install, did mine in a storage unit with minimal tools and no lights. Great product.

by:

perfect for my kayak trailer

by:

I was looking for something cost efficient and good quality and I found it. I put the lights on a 62 Willys pick up I'm renovating. Work perfectly !

by:

Price was less than the local stores and shipping was fast. The lights look well made but I haven't had a chance to install them yet.

by:

I had to replace the lights on my utility trailer. The Kit came complete with easy to follow directions. Everything matched up perfectly almost plug and play. It took about 3 hours to remove the old lights and install the new ones. The only extra thing I had to purchase was extra white ground wire. The length that came with the kit was a little short. All other wire was more than ample length. That is why it got 4 stars other than that minor thing it would have gotten 5 stars. I am not a big user but the people at e-trailer are professionals with great follow up. This is the 2nd time that I used them and I do not hesitate to recommend the company and people.

  • Best 4.80-12 Trailer Tires For Highway Speed
Okay, let's go ahead and start with the best 4.80-12 trailer tires for highway speeds, and for that you want a radial tire because they run cooler and flex more than bias tires. The best option for this is a tire from Taskmaster: - Taskmaster 4.80R12 Radial Trailer Tire # TT48012C The # TT48012C has an 81 mph speed rating, the highest for this size tire, and is a load range C tire that has a 990 lb per-tire rating (so 1,980 lbs for two tires). As for a wheel and spacer, there really...

  • Will The Peterson M540 Light Kit Fit A Bracket With 2-1/4" of Head Room?
I measured from the center of the mounting studs to the top of the lights that come with the Peterson Light Kit # M540 and it is 2-1/2". Just to make sure, I also measure the Optronics Under 80" Trailer Light Kit with 25' Wiring Harness # TL5RK the same way, and they measure exactly the same, unfortunately. With that said, I may have another option available, but the lights will be completely different. If you look at the Optronics Trailer Light Kit # TL16RK, which technically is for trailers...

  • Is There Difference Between Optronics Taillight Kits TL5RK and TL29BK
The Optronics kits part # TL5RK and # TL29BK are both very similar. Only real difference is there is a slight housing design difference between the two main taillight assemblies with the # TL29BK having the more recent design. Both are great kits that will hold up really well, better than what came on your Harbor Freight trailer for sure.

  • Trailer Wiring Recommendation for a Trailer Less than 80 inches Towed by a 1992 Ford Explorer
The Optronics Trailer Light kit # TL5RK that you referenced would be an excellent choice for you and would work very well on your trailer towed by your 1992 Ford Explorer with the only exception is that the wiring is 18 gauge instead of 16 gauge like you said you preferred. I can assure you though that this wiring kit will work well for you and the amperage draw would not be too much for the wiring.

Our lighting kits are not necessarily trailer specific. • How to the Lights in Trailer Light Kit TL5RK Ground to the Trailer
The lights included with light kit # TL5RK ground through the mounting studs. The light grounds should also be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. If there is anything between a light ground and the metal trailer frame or if the trailer has an aluminum frame, tilt bed, or folding tongue, any of these things can interrupt the ground. Running jumper wires from the light grounds to the main trailer connector ground can help. It does sound like a weak ground connection....

  • Running Lights Not Working on Trailer After Installation of Optronics Trailer Light Kit # TL5RK
There are many possible reasons why the running lights are not working on your trailer when using the Optronics Trailer Light Kit, part # TL5RK. First, I recommend checking the ground connections. The trailer lights on this kit will ground through the mounting studs. You will also want to make sure that the main ground from the trailer connector is attached to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface....

  • How to Use the Trailer Taillight Kit # TL5RK on a Trailer Over 80 Inches in Width
I attached a page that details all of the trailer lighting requirements that trailers need based on the dimensions of the trailer. Most over 80 inch requirements are that there needs to be an amber clearance light in front of the fender as well as a red one behind it. Whereas below 80 inch only requires only the amber on the front. Basically to use the # TL5RK on a trailer over 80 inches in width will require you to use a red clearance light as well # 30-17-814.
