Specs:
Recessed-mount trailer lights install with a grommet, which is often sold separately. These lights extend past the trailer surface and require a hole for installation. If replacing a light, you can utilize the pre-existing hole. If installing a new light, you will need to cut a hole or use a mounting bracket (sold separately) to complete the installation.

Today we're going to take a look at the Peterson Luminex LED trailer tail light kit. This is going to give us our stop, tail, turn and backup signals. This is going to have an oval design with a red and clear lens. As you can see we'll have our lights with that red lens and then our little Cyclops light there for our backup signal. That's going to give us that clear lens over that last diode there to provide the light for our backup. We'll also have a PVC grommet to go around our light that gives it a little bit more shock protection and just kind of cleans up the look of the light overall.
It's going to have a nice flex to it. That just goes over the back of our light. And then we'll also have two harnesses to go with our light itself. These are going to be industry standard AMP-style plugs and we'll have our smaller connection here. This is going to be our blue wire. That's going to be for the reverse signal or backup signal.
Just press that into place. And you'll notice on this one and our larger wiring, there'll be this little grommet. That's going to give it a little weather protection so we don't have to worry about any water, dust and debris from getting into our connections and causing any issues down the line. Of course it's never a bad idea to put a little bit of dielectric grease in there just to increase the longevity of your light but with that grommet, you almost don't even need it.If you want to pick up some dielectric grease, we do have that available here at etrailer.com. Something I like about this wiring style is that it clips over there and it's going to hold really securely on our light.
This larger clip is actually kind of tricky to get off. I was having to pry pretty hard on it to get it to come off but it does eventually. I'm going to connect this up to a power source here so you can get an idea of how bright this is going to be. Of course, the white wire with that ring terminal, it's going to be a number 10 ring terminal already installed. That's going to be our ground.
The black wire will be our tail light or running light signal.Turn that on. See our light will come on and then our red wire will be our stop and turn signals. It's going to be much brighter there. Our blue wire again, will give us that reverse signals. It's going to give us that bright white light that we need to see what's going on behind us and that does also work with our brakes or our turn signal if we ever would need those all at once. Go ahead and turn the lights out in the studio here so you can get a better idea of just how bright that's going to be. That white light is going to give us a lot of light to illuminate behind our trailer especially if we're working in the dark, and our brake or turn signal. Again, it's going to meet all DOT requirements. It's going to meet FMVS 108 requirements for automotive lighting. And turn our lights back on in the studio. And we'll go over some measurements with this. Now one thing, again to keep in mind with this, it is going to be an LED light so that means it's going to be a lot longer lasting than your incandescent bulbs. You don't have to worry about anything burning out over time. LEDs can last up to 50 times longer than your incandescent bulbs as there's no brittle filaments that can break and then blow out. There's nothing to replace with this so that's one less thing to worry about there. There's also surface mount technology with this so it's going to be better able to withstand the shock or vibration as you're going down the road. Again, that grommet is going to help with that as well and the SMT construction is also going to give better heat distribution inside the lens so we don't have to worry about our LEDs burning out.Again, as far as our dimensions, with the grommet in place it's going to be about 7-3/4 inches long by about 3-1/2 inches wide and then going from the front of the light to the back of our harness there, it's going to be about 1-3/4 inches deep. Just the light on its own is going to be 6-1/2 inches long and 2-1/4 wide by about 1-7/16 deep. Remove our plugs here and measure the leads. Again, that larger harness is a little trickier to remove. Not a bad thing. You don't want your wiring to come accidentally disconnected but . There we go. Okay. As far as our lead off of our reverse signal or our backup signal, it's going to have about 7-1/4 inches of length there and then for the rest of our wiring going to our red and black wire, it's going to be about 8-1/2 inches of wire. That's going to do it for our look at the Peterson Luminex LED trailer tail light kit. One last thing I do want to mention with this, is that it is made in USA.

Recessed mount with included grommet and AMP-style plug.I replaced the entire running lights system and the LED lights are high quality and work great.
The running lights and backup lights are all amazingly bright!
I really appreciate that they help keep my trailer visible and safe!
perfect timing on the ETA of parts Thanks alot
Exactly what we were looking for. I do think the description needs to be more clear as I ordered an extra wire that actual came with the light. Other than that received the product earlier than expected and we were able to finish the job for the customer sooner.
I would like to thank everyone at etrailer for fast and wonderful service.
Great product. Very pleased with the quality and service.
This is a review of etrailer as the product is 4*. The lights came loose in a box so all 4 lights lenses are scratched. When you spend 16-21$ a light you expect them to handle with care but they don’t.
Great product. Did not listen to my salesperson Jesse. I do need the 2 prong adapters.

Two of the three lights I installed randomly turn themselves off. At times they also require multiple “touches” to operate, which can get frustrating.
Purchased these in April, installed in May. Second trip I made with the trailer in July, the lens fell off one light. No damage, it just fell off.
Neither E-trailer, nor Peterson will warranty the light.
I think it's the last time I spend money with either of them.
Exactly what you'd expect. Seems to be a good quality grommet-mount LED light. I used it for a mid-ship marker on a gooseneck.
The lights look ok, but I haven't gotten them installed yet. My main complaint is the packaging, because everything I ordered was thrown loose into one box. You need to do better to ensure nothing is damaged during shipping.
The light is very bright and is good quality I love it
Good product, nice bright led's
Should last a long time. Great customer service and good website description of product. Etrailer has always been a great company to deal with. Keep up the good work.
Very nice looking lights. Disappointed in that I did not watch the video to see that a harness is needed to wire the lights. I will get them with next order though.
Bought 4 tail lights only 1 worked right out of the box - had to work with the other 3 to get them to work
Easy instillation and very bright. But you must be very thorough that you have the right sized grommet for the hole in the bed or trailer AND for the light you are using. Not all grommets are the same as with trailers and flat beds so make sure that you double check the hole size both ways of the bed and the light to minimize head aches when you go to install.
I used these to replace the tail lights on my utility trailer. They are bright and because they are LED they will not require any attention. I look forward to many years of reliable service.
Easy installation. Working perfectly after 1year
I was worried that the backup lights would not be bright enough, but they’re surprisingly bright for only one segment of the light.
Great light but would need to manually turn them on each time you kill the main switch in the horse trailer. Will reorder the same light but without the touch switch in the middle of the lens. Bad on me for being a poor electrician.
Sure would’ve been nice to know the mounting flange and enclosure is plastic.... not one place in the description or video.... disappointed
