PC-Rated Lights

Diagram of light spread for PC rated light

A PC-rated light produces a 90-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 180 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be clearly seen when you are standing directly in front of the light, as well as when you are standing on either side of the light. When properly installed, this type of light can function as both a front clearance light and a side marker light or as a rear clearance light and side marker light.

Recessed-Mount Light

Recessed Grommet Mount Trailer Light Installation Diagram

Recessed-mount trailer lights install with a grommet, which is often sold separately. These lights extend past the trailer surface and require a hole for installation. If replacing a light, you can utilize the pre-existing hole. If installing a new light, you will need to cut a hole or use a mounting bracket (sold separately) to complete the installation.

Video Transcript for Ultimate Overview of the Peterson LED Mini Clearance and Side Marker Trailer Light w/ Grommet

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Peterson mini LED clearance and side marker light. So right off the bat, once you get the light in your hand, the first thing I noticed is it feels pretty heavy duty. The plastic is really solid, especially here on the front. There's really not a pocket inside of there almost if you will. So I think it would be very difficult to actually break this lens.

So definitely a good thing. On the back side, where the wires go into, it is all sealed up. So I'll give you a little peace of mind there, and we're also going to have quite a bit of wire to work with. So it should make life a little bit easier. Whenever we go to install this.

On the back of it, where the wires go in, it's all sealed up.So that's good. And you kind of stretch your wires out. You do have quite a bit of length, so it might make it a little easier for us to hook up having that extra wire to work with. It does come included with the grommet, which is nice. That way we don't have to worry about picking it up separately or trying to make do with the old one.

So it really surprised me whenever I turn a light on is how bright it is. It's really impressive considering its size and what helps it achieve that brightness is the fact that it's LED. So it's going to have one little LED in there and that's really going to have an advantage over the traditional style incandescent bulbs for a few different reasons. It's going to draw less power, so it's going to take less energy to run. It's going to be brighter and it's going to last much longer since there's no brittle filaments in there to break. So overall just a really reliable white count.

I really do like these little lights and because of their size and how compact they are, we pretty much have endless mounting options. So it really gives us a bunch of choices and not only on trailers, but you found that a lot of people are starting to actually put these on their pickup trucks, on their side-by-sides, and just about everything. And so I can see why people are doing that since I don't take out part of the any space. It'll give you a really clean look. So even with the light turned off, that Amber lens is still going to give us some reflective properties. Now I will say if you're looking to mix things up a little bit, or just have something a little bit different, you can actually get lights with a clear lens. And if that's something you would want to do, you can find those here at etrailer. So at the end of the day, a great little light gives us a lot of flexibility as what we can do with it. They really just can't go wrong with it. Now as far as the installation goes, it's super easy. We only have to hook up two wires. So it shouldn't take you hardly any time at all. Speaking of which let's go ahead and do that together now.To begin our install, we're going to come over here to the side of our trailer, where we're going to mount up our light. The first thing we're going to need to do is install the grommet, getting the grommet in is pretty straight forward. We're just going to push it through the opening there so it's nice and flat, but once we have it in, we're going to take our light and to feed both the wires through it and push that light into place. Now we can focus on hooking up our wires. So we're going to have two wires coming out of the back of the light, a black one, which will be your power wire and the white one, which will be our ground wire. And I'm going to connect these to our existing trailer wiring using featuring connectors. So these slide over the ends of our bare wires, get crimped down. Now these heat shrinks aren't included, but if you want to use some, you can find them here at etrailer so we get that one crimped on there. Then we're simply just going to take our existing trailer wiring and hook it up. So here's our trailer wiring. So white wire, that's our ground, plug that in, grab the black power wire from our light, kind of get that ready. In our case, our power wire or trailer's power wires is brown, let them go into this end. Then I can just come back with a heat gun and seal up the ends.So before we tidy up our wiring, it's a good idea to test the light by putting power to it and make sure it's functioning properly. So once we verified that, but I'm going to do is clean up that wiring and I'll show you how it looks once I have it done. So I secured our wiring just by using a zip tie and this is how it turned out and that'll finish up our look at and our installation of the Peterson mini LED clearance and side marker light..

  • How Do Trailer Clearance Lights Normally Get Replaced
Your picture is a little blurry but from what I can see it looks like a clearance light that fits into a grommet that fits a hole in your RV. How they normally install is you put the grommet into the hole and then push the light in after from the front. If you can access behind the light you should be able to push it out or you can pry it out from the front. If the light is broken and most likely it doesn't have a bulb that could be replaced I wouldn't worry too much about damaging the...

  • Replacement Round Clearance Lights for 2018 Thor Freedom Elite Class C Motorhome
The Peterson LED Mini Clearance and Side Marker Trailer Light part # M181A will fit any motorhome with a 3/4" diameter cutout as trailer lights are not make/model specific. Therefore, if you need a replacement clearance light for your motorhome you simply need to note the exterior and then measure the cutout size. If the Peterson LED Mini Clearance and Side Marker Trailer Light looks the same or similar to what you need and the cutout size is the same then it will work.

  • Replacement LED Marker Lights for Floe Pro 100 14 Foot Snowmobile Trailer
From all the photos I saw online, it looks like Floe used grommet mounted 2-1/2 inch marker lights and standard 6-1/2 by 2-1/2 inch oblong taillights. If that's the case, for the amber 2-1/2 inch I would recommend # MCL59AB and # MCL59RB for the red marker light. The lamps use a standard # A55GB grommet to mount. The grommet is a fit for a 3 inch diameter rough opening. The lamps are designed to be used with a 2 pin pigtail like part # A49PB. I wasn't able to find a photo showing the...

  • Wiring For A Flat Bed With Aftermarket Lighting On a 2008 Ford F-150
I only have one recommendation as we do not carry a factory connector for the tail light harness on your 2008 Ford F-150. If your truck has a 7-way you will be able to use the Hopkins Endurance 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness # 41157 to tee off of the 7-way. You will then be able to splice the wiring and wire in Tail Lights # BP53FR and Clearance Lights # M181A. You will need the 3-Wire Pigtail # A47PB and 2-Wire Pigtail # 421-49 to wire in the tail lights. They will also...
