Recessed-mount trailer lights install underneath a housing or a grommet, which is often sold separately. These lights will extend into the mounting surface and require that a hole be cut into your trailer.
Recessed-mount trailer lights install with a grommet, which is often sold separately. These lights extend past the trailer surface and require a hole for installation. If replacing a light, you can utilize the pre-existing hole. If installing a new light, you will need to cut a hole or use a mounting bracket (sold separately) to complete the installation.

Today, we're going to take a look at the Peterson Trailer Tail Light. This is going to have your stop, tail and turn signals. It has a round design with a red lens. This incandescent trailer light is going to be a great replacement for any broken or damaged lights on your trailer and it's going to give us our stop, tail and turn signals when it's properly mounted. Now, it does have a recessed mount with a grommet that is sold separately. You can find that here at etrailer.com using part number 426-18.
It also is going accept the industry standard 3-prong plug. You can use either part number 431-491 or part number 421-491, which I have here. You may use this just to demonstrate how bright the light is going to be. That plug is just going to pop into the back to match up those prongs. Something I like about the Peterson lights is that they already have a little bit of dielectric grease installed on those terminals to help maintain a good connection and also, prevent any water from getting in there and causing any damage or bad connections overall.I'm just going to hook this up to my power source. And my ground connection.
Then, I'll tap the red wire for that signal. We turn on our power. You'll see our running light is coming on there since I have it connected to the black wire. Then, if I connect the circuit for the red wire, that's going to give us our turn signal or our break signal. As you see, it's going to be that brighter light, so it's going to give us all those proper functions when we're out on the road, maintain DOT compliance. This light itself is going to be DOT compliant.
Turn the lights off in the studio here, you'll see that running light, how bright that is there and then, again, turning it to the break or turn signal. It's going to nice and bright to let anybody else on the road know we're coming to a stop or turning.Shut off our power. Then, to remove that plug, it has two tabs on the back. I can just pop that off. It does take a little bit of force to get that to pop off there, which is not a bad thing.
You don't want it to just fall off. There we go.Again, it doesn't just fall off. It takes a little bit of force. Not too hard but I just don't want to break anything. Then, as far as our dimensions, it's going to be 4.15 inches in diameter and about 2 an a 16th in depth going to that top of that lens there.Another last thing with this light is that it is a made in USA product. That's going to do it for our look at the Peterson Trailer Tail Light with the stop, tail and turn signal with a round design with a red lens.
