This light has an industry-standard PL-3 connection as pictured above. The light accepts a 3-prong plug (sold separately).
Recessed-mount trailer lights install with a grommet, which is often sold separately. These lights extend past the trailer surface and require a hole for installation. If replacing a light, you can utilize the pre-existing hole. If installing a new light, you will need to cut a hole or use a mounting bracket (sold separately) to complete the installation.

Today we're going to be taking a look at, and showing you how to install the Peterson LED Trailer Tail Light. This light's going to give you your running light, your blinker, and your brake lights. What's great about these is that they're LED, which are really, really bright. So not only are they going to help keep you safe, they're also going to help other motorists on the road see you more clearly. The lights going to have seven diodes. What's really nice about the LED lights, you don't have to worry about any brittle filaments like you would with your traditional incandescent style lights. Not only are they going to last a lot longer, they're going to put off a more significant amount of light, and they're going to use way less power to do that. This light accepts an input of nine to 16 volts.
So this'll work great with your typical 12-volt system. The lights accept the industry standard three prong plug. If your trailer doesn't have one, you can find it on eTrader.com. In the back of the light, as you can see, we have our connection points, which do come covered dielectric grease. So that's one less thing you have to worry about during install. There actually is some raised lettering that tells you what each connection point will be used for.
I'll give you a couple measurements, and these will help you determine if this light will work with your application. It is four and a quarter inches wide, and an inch and three eighths from the end of the white to the end of the pod. I'll show you how easy it is to get these lights installed. They are designed to be used with a rubber grommet since we're replacing ours, we're just going to go ahead and put in a new grommet while we're doing that. If you need a new one, or a replacement, you can find one on etrailer.com. Now I'll show you just how easy it is to get this light installed.
Simply take our trailer wiring and feed it through the hole and just simply plug it in to the back of the light. Now sometimes these lights can be a really tight fit, so to help push it it, you can some silicone spray lubricant or just some soapy water, and that will make things a little easier. Just put it in and press, and you'll hear it pop into place. Now we can put some power to the light, make sure all the functions work. So here we have our tail lights, our turn signal, and finally, our brake lights. And if you purchased more than one light, you can repeat that same procedure for the other side. And that will do it for our look at, and installation of the Peterson LED trailer tail light..
