Ellen: Hey, everyone! I'm Ellen, here at etrailer.com. And today, we're going to be taking a look at the Buyers Products three-eighths inch by 35 inch Class Four trailer safety chain. Now, if you've ever towed anything, you'll know that you need to have come safety chains just in the event of an accidental disconnect. If something didn't get coupled down all the way, or it didn't get hooked up quite right, and it comes uncoupled while you're out on the road, your safety chains are there as a backup to make sure that your stuff can stay attached while you pull over safely to the side of the road and get everything hooked back up again. So, we want our safety chains to be up to the task. You want to get something that's going to be above and beyond what you're hauling, so that your trailer and everything that you've got loaded on it, you want to make sure that that's below what your safety chains are rated at.Now, these have a rating of 15,000 pounds for just this single setup here. Typically, you'll want to get two of these, one to go on either side, to hook into place. So, that's going to double your weight capacity.
If you're using two, you get the combined weight of both of them. So, if you get two of these chains, you get 30,000 pounds to work with. So, make sure that that's well under what you're hauling. Add everything on top of your trailer, or your camper, or whatever the case may be.Now, as far as the specs with this, it measures 35 inches long. That's going from the end of the link to the end of the chain.
If you add in the clevis hook here, it actually is about 37 inches from this inside edge to the end of the link. Just for reference there. It gives you about two inches of additional length with that clevis on the end. It has a safety clip in place to help prevent any kind of accidental disconnect from the hook part, and this is attached with a clevis pin and clip. So, if you wanted to just have the chain portion, you could always remove the clevis hook, use it for something else.
But that gives you an option there. If you ever need to switch out the chain or replace the clevis, you can disassemble them without having to worry about cutting off that chain or anything like that. Just have to bend that little clip out of the way with some pliers, tap it out, pull out the pin, and then you're good to go.Now, the chain has a three-eighths inch diameter. It is Class Four, so again, it has that weight capacity of 15,000 pounds. It's made of a carbon steel, so it should last for a long time.
Some of our customers have great things to say: "Even after a year of use, it's still going strong. It doesn't even look that worn."Our clevis hook, just for some measurements here, overall, from the widest point, it's about three and three-quarters inches wide. Going from the top there to the end of where our pin attached, so the longest point on our clevis hook, it's about five and a quarter inches. The opening inside, or the throat of that hook, it's about one and a quarter inches at the narrowest portion. And then the thickness of the hook, at the widest portion, is about one and a quarter as well. The carbon steel does have a zinc finish. So, that's what's going to help to keep that nice chrome look for a long time. It should work out well as a safety chain on just about any trailer out there, as long as, again, you're meeting that weight capacity that you need. And that's going to do it for our look at the Buyers Products three-eighths inch by 35 inch Class Four trailer safety chain.

Required in most states, a safety chain acts as a backup if your trailer becomes disconnected from your tow vehicle. Attach the end link of this zinc-coated steel chain to your trailer, and then hook the clevis hooks to loops on your hitch. The description is WRONG. In one location it states ONE chain, and in another location states TWO CHAINS. I chatted with someone on the site to ask if it was one or two and was told TWO chains for the price listed. I received ONE chain. I’m pretty sure it’s not legal to drive with only one chain…??
Real heavy duty just as I ordered perfect fit for my trailer
This is just the tail-end of an all-around superlative buying experience with etrailer. Two days before I was due to pick up a heavy trailer load with my Silverado Duramax I discovered that my “heavy duty” hitch was cracked in two places. After checking around, my mechanic found the etrailer website, which steered him to a real heavy-duty hitch perfect for my truck, overnighted it, and recommended the correct safety chains and hooks for the new hitch set-up. etrailer averted a potential tragedy. Great products, exceptional service, and fair prices.
I ordered a number of items for a trailer that I am bringing back to life after leaving is stand at the beach for nearly 12 years. I got great advice on what parts I needed to match the original Haulmark lights and license plate bracket/light and also ordered a new breakaway system and safety chains. Everything was priced reasonably, shipped in a timely fashion and was a cinch to install as it all fit right to the original footprints. I also found answers to my questions on some electrical issues by browsing the Q&A sections here. Happy customer.
Replaced my chains with these and they are so much better than the original one!! Love shopping at etrailer they have everything I’m looking for!!
Chains have held up perfect. Used everyday with no rust. Great quality.
Chains look to be good quality and should last a long time. Easy install, only issue that turned out to be a non issue was the 1/2" quick link I purchased to attach the new chain to the trailer connection would not fit in the end link of either chain. Fortunately I needed to cut a few links off the new chains and the quick link fit just fine.
Purchased to replace the lightweight chains someone had installed on a trailer I bought. Those chains probably wouldn't have held the empty trailer much less loaded with 6 round bales. Feel much more confident now, and they still look like new.
Correct length that I ordered. Everything as described.
Perfect length for using with an extended shank with my weight distribution hitch.
My order was delivered on time, everything was right with my order and the shipment box that was used by etrailer was of a good quality box that the box did not fall apart in shipment. As for the question would I order again from etrailer , I can say to any one yes I would order again from etrailer. I would like to say to Geoffrey at etrailer thank you Geoffrey for making sure that I received my order and that I was happy with everything that I ordered. Thank you
