Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today I'm gonna take a look at the CE Smith 24-inch-long safety chains with the S-hooks. They have a 5,000 pound weight capacity. Now, these safety chains are required in most states because the safety chain acts as a backup connection if your trailer becomes disconnected from your tow vehicle. Basically, you'll attach one end of this zinc-coated steel chain to your trailer's coupler, and then you'll hook the S-hook at the other end to your hitch. And if you notice, on the S-hook, they do have this integrated security spring clip, and that's to prevent accidental unhooking.
Now, when you fully open that spring clip, it gives you about 3/4 of an inch width opening there. Now, these are a zinc-plated steel. They do resist rust and corrosion. Now, these chains are perfect for trailers under 5,000 pounds combined gross weight, meaning the total of your trailer plus the carry load. The chain length, again, is 24 inches.
And the link on these chains is 1/4 inch diameter. But that should do it for a look at the CE Smith 24-inch-long safety chains with the S-hooks.
