Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Fulton 42 inch long safety chain with the clevis hook and keeper. Has an 18,800 pound capacity and this is for a quantity of one chain. Now, safety chains will help ensure a nice, safe towing and are required by law in most states. Does require two safety chains per trailer.
Now, this will provide a nice backup connection between the trailer and the tow vehicle if your trailer becomes disconnected from the tow vehicle. Basically, to install it, you'll attach this end link right here of the steel chain to your trailer. And then the hook end right here, the clevis hook, this will loop into the truck bed to your safety chain connection points. Now, it does require two chains per trailer. This is just for a quantity of one.
And when you do install these, when you do hook them to your tow vehicle, you do wanna cross the chains across each other for added safety. If you notice these have a nice yellow zinc finish on them to resist rust and corrosion, and this is a nice grade 70 safety chain. As we mentioned, the weight capacity on this chain is 18,800 pounds. Now, the overall length, just wanna zoom back out, extend it all the way. If I measure just the chain portion, not including the clevis hook, one end to the other, there you can see is right at 42 inches long.
Not including the hook. Now, the hook itself is designed to work with 5/16 inch size chain. And this part here is for a quantity of one chain with the clevis hook. And I just want to show you, zoom back in and we'll show you, there's your clevis hook. And there's your keeper, that when you hook this up, this keeper will keep it from becoming disconnected.

Installed easily enough, and looks solidly built. The only real test, of course, would be to have the hitch fail, and that's not happened, so I can't report on how they worked then.

Towed a sailboat (6000 lbs) on trailer (~1500 lbs) from Missouri to Colorado with a 1/2 Ton chevy pickup. Did great, no sway, no issues whatsoever. Installation was straightforward and done in the boat yard with limited tools without any trouble at all. We didn't put the boat on the trailer and had no opportunity to adjust the weight distribution. No problems at all. I definitely can recommend this hitch setup.

After one year item FCHA0050324 Safety chains (I have 2 of them) with clevis hooks are as good as they were new. Very satisfied. I use the chains with my 40' fifth wheel trailer which uses a gooseneck adaptor & requires safety chains.

The safety chain bracket was exactly what I expected. My gooseneck trailer had only one safety chain when I purchased it used, and the safety chain links had been welded to the trailer. I sought out something to replace it with knowing that having only 1 safety chain was potentially not legal and that welding the chain links weakens them. I ended up ordering 2 of these brackets and 2 safety chains (FCHA0050324) from etrailer and they worked well together. The bracket is round so I ground a flat spot on it where it meets the trailer to make it easier to keep in position while welding it.

These safety chains are more than adequate for controlling my dual tandem gooseneck trailer in an emergency situation. I would recommend them to anyone pulling heavy loads.

Product was as described. Swapping out original 1/4" (still good condition and will be reused on another trailer build) chains after upping my toy haulers aging springs to carry some quads and a 4 seater UTV and "lift" slighty to avoid continuing to scrape off plumbing. Part is very sturdy / made of good quality (Gr 70 chain) and the hooks are larger than OG pieces and once installed will fit on my Curt hitch rings better. Hopefully! I just received the product last night so these aren't installed yet. However, all the reviews made these chains seem so so much larger than they really are. This is my 2nd or so purchase from etrailer and just with customer service alone I will MOST definitely be purchasing again. As well as recommended etrailer to friends. Josh D

great product, however it does not have a load test tag or shackles for attaching to gooseneck. No way to positively identify strength of chain or hook, but it sure look pretty.

The wheel studs fit perfectly and were easy to install. I had no success locating these wheel studs at local part stores. They were shipped quickly. The tow chains are very high quality.

- What is Weight Capacity of Tow Ready Safety Chain Kit # 49150We don't rate the Fulton chains we offer like the part # FCHA0050324 that you mentioned. Fulton is who tested and rated the chains for 18,800 lbs. They are normally very conservative with how they rate their chains and towing products and we've yet to have any issues with that so I'd feel very confident in the 18.8k capacity.
