Ask the Experts about this TruRyde Trailer Spindles

  • Number 42 Spindle Recommendation for Mounting Trailer Hub for Spare
If you can get me more info on the hub I can see which spindle it would fit. If you know the bearing numbers of the hub that would work, or there is a casting number on the hub like what Dexter does that would work. Axle capacity of the trailer will work as well.

  • What Size Axle Does the Spindle part # TRU37FR Fit
The TruRyde spindle part # TRU37FR that you referenced is designed for 5,200 lb axles. That capacity of axle has a diameter of 3 inches externally. Spindles aren't designed to just slip into an axle as a replacement. To replace a spindle, the old one would need to be cut off, and the new one welded into place. This is NOT a job for the do-it-yourselfer. The new spindle must be absolutely square with the axle in order to prevent premature tire wear and wheel tracking problems. I would...

  • Could Bent RV Tire Spindle Cause Trailer Sway
Thank you for the photo of your trailer tire. I cannot tell for sure from the photo but if you suspect that you could have a bent spindle on at least that one wheel and you are experiencing sway from the trailer at highway speed despite using a weight distribution/sway control hitch then I urge you to take the trailer to a shop that can check the condition of the axle and spindles. It is certainly possible that a good hit from road debris (or from a curb that was closer than you thought)...

  • How To Determine the Weight Capacity For a Trailer Axle with Spindle Dimensions that Match 42
A trailer as old as yours would be pretty hard to determine an overall capacity for, but since you have 6 lug hubs that would indicate by todays standards you have a capacity most likely between 5,200 and 6k which matches pretty close to the spindle dimensions you listed as well. The spindle dimensions match the 42 spindle like the part # TRU37FR which has a 5,200 lb capacity.

  • Can Spindles be Replaced on Dexter Torflex Axle
The spindles can be replaced. However, they will need to be welded by a certified welder. They use special jigs so that it is concentric and square on the axle or it can cause problems with uneven tire wear and wheel tracking. I've linked our selection of spindles for your to find the correct part for your trailer.

  • What Material is TruRyde TRU37FR 5.2-7K Trailer Spindle Made From
Acccrding to TruRyde, the # TRU37FR for 5.2 to 7K capacity trailer axles is constructed of cold rolled 1045 steel bar stock. The spindle is compatible with a # 25580 inner wheel bearing, the outer bearing used will depend on the capacity of the axle.

  • Replacement Spindle Recommendation for Dexter # 42
Looks like you are in need of a number 42 spindle like the part # TRU37FR. The numbers you listed aren't part numbers but judging by the shape of what you sent in a picture of this is a match. You still might verify this though by measuring where the bearings ride. If those dimensions are 1.25 and 1.74 inch then this is the correct.

  • Is Finding Excess Grease On Wheel After greasing EZ Lube Spindles Something To Worry About
Since you just pumped grease into your EZ lube spindle like the EZ Lube Spindle, Item # TRU37FR, I would not be too concerned. I would clean up the excess grease on the inside of your left wheel and keep tabs on it. Also, make sure using the same type of grease. Normally EZ Lube spindles "take care of themselves" if you carry out routine maintenance like you are doing. If possible, I encourage you to check your grease seal to make sure it is not damaged. • Will the #42 E-Z Lube Spindle w/ Flange Work On Any Axle Between 5,200 and 7,000 Lbs
The axle tube dimensions should be the same from anything between 5,200 - 7,000 lbs. I know for sure the outer diameter will be 3" as this is a standard but it would not hurt to measure the inner diameter when fittings the #42 E-Z Lube Spindle w/ Flange part # TRU37FR which has a stub diameter of 2-1/4". It's possible different manufactures use different axle beam thicknesses for an axle within the range above but it should be fairly standard.

Both will measure 4 inches from the grease seal position to the threads. You can see this in the attached video at the 1:42 second mark. The difference between these is the zerk fitting and the brake flange. The spindle dimensions will be identical.

  • Replacement Trailer Spindle for 3 inch Diameter Trailer Axle
Since your axle diameter is 3 inch that would mean that your axle capacity is between 5.2k and 7k so for a replacement spindle the EZ Lube Spindle part # TRU37FR would fit and work well. This has a 5 bolt spindle though.

  • Recommendation for Failing EZ Lube Spindle and Vortex Hub
We do not carry the Vortex hubs made by Tie Down Engineering. Unfortunately because of this, I don't really know how to assist with troubleshooting the hubs themselves as they are designed to seal out moisture and debris, yet are obviously failing. The threaded cab should have an o-ring to prevent moisture entry and the seal should prevent it on the other side. The zerk fitting on your EZ lub spindles is a part of the spindle so to replace that would require changing the entire spindle....
