Video Transcript for Let’s Check Out the CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for Mounting Round Trailer Axles

Speaker 1: Today, we'll be having a look at the CE Smith line of U-bolt mounting kits for mounting round trailer axles. Here's what our kit comes with. It's everything you need for replacing the U-bolts on a single axle on your trailer. We have 4 new U-bolts, you'll have 2 per side; 2 new plates, 1 per side; 8 new lock washers, you'll be using 4 for each side of the trailer; and 8 new nuts, again 4 for each side of the trailer. You can see how well our U-bolts grip around the contours of our axle. This'll keep the axle firmly attached to our leaf springs, so we don't have to worry about it slipping and sliding. Now because we have the zinc and the galvanized finish on our plate and our hardware, this will better protect them from corrosion from the elements, especially salt spray. It's not an issue if you decide to use them on a boat trailer such as this one.Now many of our customers have had to make a second phone call or send an email to us after they bought a new axle for their trailer because they found, once they tried to remove the old one or put the new one on, that they couldn't get their factory U-bolts off.

They had to cut them off, and now they're searching for a replacement. This kit will be a perfect solution for this problem here. Now many of our customers compared these to the Redline line of U-bolt kits. Now the main difference you're going to see between this one and those is that those do not have the galvanized or the zinc finish on the plates or the hardware, which will cause them to rust out faster. As you can see, we already have our new axle sitting on top of our leaf springs. Now this kit could work for an axle that sits on top or below your leaf springs. It works for both applications.

You don't need to worry if yours resides below, you can still use this kit for that. We'll start by taking our new U-bolts and dropping them over our axle on either side of our leaf spring. Now we'll take our new plate. We want to make sure that this flange right here faces down, this hole here in the center lines up with the alignment pin on our leaf spring, and we'll insert our U-bolts through the holes. Place on our lock washers, and we'll put that on our nuts. Now we can start to tighten our hardware, making sure we tighten them evenly as possible. Now we'll torque our hardware again, making sure we alternate to ensure that we're doing it as evenly as possible. And that completes our look at the CE Smith line of U-bolt kits for mounting round trailer axles..

You really know your way around a trailer! It looks great! What are you hauling? Im moving in a few weeks. Care to swing by and give me a hand? Just kidding.

by:

Box delivered with a torn open corner and packaging for one of U-bolt kits was opened as well. Several 3/4” split washers ended up missing but U-bolts, hangars and nuts were fortunately in the bottom of the box.

by:

WOW, excellent Quality. installed perfect in Big Tex SA35.
PS - eTrailer is Awesome! Fast, priced right, competent. I'm never going anywhere else form here out.

by:

Received my two orders and I'm impressed with the quality I see. I am in the process of cutting off the old rusted out fenders so it will be a little while before I can install the new springs and shackle kits. After that I can then install the new fenders and my trailer should be like new. Thank you for the help and prompt service.

by:

The majority of the hardware was great. I had a couple of lock washers blow out during torque settings on the U-Bolts.

by:

Better than most of the 7/16th inch u-bolts found on many 3500 LB axles that come as original equipment. The u-bolts are well made and the plates are thicker and galvanized for better rust protection.

by:

Thicker ubolts than original. Nice upgr ade

by:

etrailer is amazing.
My trailer got into
a tussle with a K-rail on the I-70 in Colorado. The trailer lost, bent axel and all that. One call to etrailer and Sara and two days later I'm back on the road. All the parts from MO toCO in such a short period of time. Thank you etrailer you are amazing.

by:

I upgraded from a single leaf 3500lb axle spring to a 4 leaf 4000lb axle spring and also upgraded the U-bolts. The upgrade went very well. Everything fit perfect. The trailer tire to fender clearance was only 1.5 inches (at best) before the upgrade, now it is 3.5 inches. This will help the tire from rubbing the fender on the rough and bumpy road that we have in the state.

by:

I bought a trailer that someone had reversed the axle and did some “REDNECK ENGINEERING “on. I put the axle back where it was supposed to be by using U bolts I had ordered. Everything fit perfect. Now trailer is back like it was supposed to be, thanks to etrailer and Jane. She was so helpful and follow up on my order was exceptional. I know I can always count on etrailer to get what I need at a fair price. THANKS

by:

Fit great, easy to install, good quality parts. No issues after a year.

by:

Great customer service. Product shipped and arrived in a timely manner. I'll be installing the new axle on my flatbed trailer this week - weather permitting.

by:

I expect these to last just as long as the ones they replaced, which were on for 20 years. The plate seems to be thicker than the original. Wish there was a more specific torque rating than just a recommended range.

by:

Highly recommend! I first made the mistake and ordered from “the other trailer parts outlet” so it took 10 days from my order to receive missing and beat up broken China made parts. The other place didn’t want to replace but wanted me to repair at my time and cost. I called etrailer, ordered on Monday, received on Wednesday. No damage as they actually package the parts up correctly. I got brand name parts too. Lesson learned. If you are on the fence or shopping around. Save yourself 10 days, 5 phone calls and hassle. Shop etrailer first.

by:

Fit perfectly.

by:

Fantastic fast shipping will definitely deal with again

by:

They still seem to be doing there job and holding up!

by:

Other than the burs in the holes looks to be a good product. luckily I had rite size drill bit.

by:

Put new springs and ubolts on my boat trailer looks good got them quick

by:

Went on easy, torched to 75 and using it today

by:

very very happy with everything you helped me with

Good quality fit really good buy again

  • Replacement 25-1/2 Inch Leaf Springs and U-Bolt Kit For Travel Trailer With 3,500LB Axles
It sounds like you have the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles # e54SR which are 25-1/8". This measurement is taken with the leaf spring relaxed from center of bolt hole to center of bolt hole. With them holding the weight of the trailer they will begin to flatten out and get longer. We do also have them with a Dacromet Coating # e68SR which will withstand corrosion better than painted steel units. The CE Smith U-Bolt Kit # CE23002 includes new u-bolts, washers, nuts and...

  • Recommended Leaf Spring Replacement For A 2019 Dutchmen Kodiak Ultra-Lite 283BHSL
Definitely looks like the springs are being overloaded and need to be replaced. You can use higher rated leaf springs but, the higher you go the stiffer the ride will be. Since we know the weight class with your axles the next step would be to measure from eyelet to eyelet to figure out the correct length. With the leaf spring being flat it's going to measure a bit longer than it typically would so we would just need to find something close to the measurement. At 4,000lbs we have a...

  • How To Choose Correct Replacement Leaf Springs for an etrailer Trailer Axle
In order to find the correct replacement leaf springs for a trailer you first need to start by noting the type whether that be slipper or double eye. Then, you'll need to measure their unloaded length via jacking up the trailer. If the springs are worn they will measure longer than their replacement. Lastly, you will need to note the axle capacity which is found on the tag in the center of the beam. Please note, the number of leaves does not really denote capacity as leaves have different...

The spring center to spring center is 74" or you can have 2 new Spring Seats # TRSS238 welded on at the correct mounting width for your springs. Andy, while I do like your Axle # e95SR and U-Bolt Kit # CE23002 selection of which you will need 2 of each I do have another recommendation for the suspension kit. The Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit # APT3 you found has longer equalizers designed for a 35" spacing used on larger axles. Also I do not like the shackle straps it comes with either as they are a thin steel and over time the holes will likely start to elongate. Yes, you can still install the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit even though the trailer rides slightly nose high when coupled to the tow vehicle. When installing one of these kits you'll most likely need to get longer U-bolts since there typically aren't enough threads to accommodate the additional mounting brackets. • Do You Have a 3,500LB Axle with 4" Drop and 5 on 4-1/2" Bolt Pattern with Electric Brakes, 95" Hub F
All of our 3,500LB, 4" drop axles with 95" hub face like our etrailer Axle # e45SR you found are going to have a 80" spring center. As we do not offer custom axles you can easily have the springs seats removed and 2 new Seats # TRSS238 installed at your 81" spring center. This is typically cheaper and much faster than ordering a custom axle from a local dealer. I recommend upgrading to the U-Bolt Kit # CE23002 with galvanized spring plates and zinc coated hardware to resist corrosion.
