Video Transcript for Feature Review Spring-Eye Bolt with Locknut for Slipper Springs

Speaker 1: Today, we're going to take a look at the 5 1/2-inch long spring eye bolt and locknut for the heavy duty Dexter axles. This is a one-inch diameter spring retainer bolt that'll attach the slipper springs to your front hanger or equalizer. The locknut is included, and this is designed for use on 10,000 pound, 12,000 pound, and 15,000 pound heavy duty Dexter axles.A few specs, starting with the bolt. It's a Grade 5 bolt. Again, the diameter is one inch. It does have eight threads per inch.

A few measurements on it. The total length, which is measured from under the very end, inaudible 00:00:33 5 1/2-inches. The threaded portion is 2 1/2-inches. Now, the locknut has an inside diameter of one inch, so it fits on the one-inch bolt. Again, threads per inch is eight threads per inch.

The head size or socket size is right at 1 1/2-inches.Now, the last thing I do when I show you when you go to install this, what you want to be aware of, if you notice on this locknut, on this side there's three indentations and on the other side there's not. The three indentations lets you know that that's the side that has the locking feature on it. When you go to install this onto the bolt, you want to make sure those three indentations are facing out. That you can see them when you install it, so that way it'll turn on and once you get it far enough, it'll stop and that'll lock it into place. If you try it the other way, you'll think you'll have the wrong nut, because it won't allow you to start it because of that locking feature.

You always want to make sure that's facing out, that you can see it when you install it.That should do it for the review on the 5 1/2-inch long spring eye bolt and locknut for heavy duty Dexter axles.

Usually you are completely on top of your game. This time my company is slightly disappointed in the timeframe of events. We stock checked all parts prior to ordering but then found out after the order was placed some were not in stock. Nobody reached out to let us know the parts were out of stock or asked if we would like to have the rest of the order shipped while waiting for the remaining out of stock items. Once we called we were able to get things moving however the shipment still was not expedited and took an additional extra five days.

See what our Experts say about this Redline Trailer Suspension Parts

  • Should Shackle Bolts Be Tightened Down So There Isn't Any Play
It sounds like you have an equalizer bolt like part # 7-136-2-6-112 as opposed to one with a hex head like the part # 7-169-6-112. This is fine as long as the diameter and length matches what you're needing. When installing suspension bolts on your trailer we don't have any torque specs for them. You'll want to snug them up so the equalizer and shackles don't have side to side play and then back the nut off 1/4 turn so that there is some movement in the suspension but not too much. If...

  • Replacement Leaf Spring Bolts and Bushings for Dexter 10K Axle On Big Tex Trailer
The correct replacement leaf spring bushings for any given trailer will be dependent on the width and type of the leaf springs. The most common for a Dexter 10,000 lb Trailer Axle are 3" wide slipper springs. If you have 3" wide slipper springs then you can use part # 14-69. Then for eye bolts you can use part # 7-136-2-6-112 or part # 7-169-6-112 if you have 3" wide slipper springs. That said, it is always best to measure your leaf springs bushings and eye bolts in order to determine...
