Lionshead Roadside Assistance Program

This tire-and-wheel assembly comes with complimentary roadside assistance for 2 years. If your RV or trailer has a flat tire, call the help line and a technician will come change the flat for you. You can call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year from anywhere in the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico.

1-Year No Excuses Guarantee

This tire has a 1-year No Excuses Guarantee. If within the first 12 months the tire is damaged in any way that's not covered by warranty, it will be replaced at no charge. You will also be compensated a flat labor rate for the cost of mounting the replacement tire.

The Nitrogen Advantage

Nitro Fill Logo

The NitroFill inflation process filters out oxygen to ensure that this tire-and-wheel assembly is filled with 95 to 99.9 percent pure nitrogen. Nitrogen-inflated tires maintain pressure better than tires inflated with standard air. This makes them ideal for RVs and trailers that are driven infrequently or sit in storage for long periods of time. Other benefits of consistent tire pressure are better fuel economy, improved braking and handling, decreased chance of tire failure, and longer tire life.

A tire inflated with standard air, which contains oxygen, is prone to fluctuations in pressure due to loss of air over time and ambient temperature changes. Nitrogen-inflated tires don't experience these fluctuations for a couple reasons. First, nitrogen molecules are larger than oxygen molecules, so they are less likely to permeate a rubber tire. Second, nitrogen is a dry gas, so it won't allow condensation to build inside the tire. A tire inflated with standard air may have moisture in it, which means it is more likely to be affected by ambient temperature.

In addition, the moisture that can collect in a tire inflated with standard air will contribute to corrosion of the wheel and deterioration of the rubber tire from the inside out. A nitrogen-inflated tire-and-wheel assembly is less likely to experience this type of decay. Less moisture in the tire also means reduced running temperatures.

If necessary, you can top off the tire with standard compressed air. But to maintain the benefits of nitrogen, the tire must be refilled with nitrogen.

Beveled Stud Holes

Beveled Stud Holes Front and Back

The stud holes on this steel wheel are beveled to ensure that the wheel stays tight against your trailer hub. This also eliminates the need to constantly retorque the lug nuts.

Castle Rock Radials

Unlike standard trailer tire tread, which has solid, continuous ribs, the tread on these Castle Rock radials has ribs with breaks. These breaks allow water to run off to the sides. The Castle Rock tread also has sipes. Siping is a process in which thin grooves (or sipes) are cut into the rubber of the tire. The grooves channel water away from the tread so that the tire makes better contact with the road. Both of these features greatly improve traction during wet, snowy, or icy conditions.

Castle Rock radials are constructed with double steel belts and double nylon cords. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

The Castle Rock ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 16" Silver Mod Wheel - 8 on 6-1/2 # LHACK133 will match what you are looking for. They utilize the 8 on 6-1/2" lug nut pattern that the truck came with originally.

  • Smallest Trailer Tire and Wheel Size with 8 Lug Bolt Pattern
Since at this time there aren't any 15 inch diameter trailer wheels with an 8 lug bolt pattern your best option would be to go with the closest tire size to what you have now that is mounted on a wheel with an 8 lug bolt pattern like the # LHACK133 which is a tire size ST235/80R16 mounted on a 16 inch wheel with an 8 lug bolt pattern. The overall diameter of the tire is 30.78 inches and the section width is 9.25 inch.

  • Closest Option to Replace 8.75-16.5 Tires & Wheel With 8-Bolt Pattern on Trailer
We may have some options for you, but first you will need to make sure you have an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern; if you aren't sure I have added a link below to a help article which details how to measure for your bolt pattern. If you do, there are some options for tire and wheel combos that may work to replace your 8.75 - 16.5LT tires. Keep in mind you want at least 3" of clearance from the top of the tire to your fender and at least 1" of clearance between the inside of the tire and your...

  • Replacement Trailer Wheels and Tires For a 8.75-16.5 Trailer Tire
Your current 8.75-16.5" tires have a section width of 9" and a height of 30.1" when fully inflated. I recommend the Castle Rock ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire # LHCK401 as being the closest size to your current tire. This tire has a section width of 9.25" and height of 30.78". You will want to ensure the extra height and width will not be an issue with tire clearance on your trailer. This tire has a capacity of 3,520lbs. You will need to change to a 16" wheel versus your 16.5" wheels...

  • Smallest Rim w/ a 8 on 6-1/2 Lug Pattern
I have a solution for you but there isn't going to be a wheel and tire with an 8 on 6-1/2 lug pattern that will be 6" shorter. We do have the Castle Rock ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 16" Silver Mod Wheel - 8 on 6-1/2 item # LHACK133 which is an inch shorter than a ST 235/85R16. This will give you just enough clearance to get into that chicken house. Let's begin with possible reasons for the blowouts you've experienced. The number one nemesis of trailer tires or any tire for that matter is excessive heat build up. Overloading, under inflating and exceeding the speed rating of a tire will all cause heat to built up and contribute to its early demise. Also, worn or damaged suspension or axle components can also cause premature wear. Make a practice of examining the wear pattern on your tires. The wear should be uniform, if it's not...
