Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

I've got a little 4x8 red mailorder trailer I put a second axle under and with these tires I've hauled a lot of weight for some years, all without any issues.

by:

Kurt did a great job, now who ever did the packing needs to be fired. Tires came in a box that was very oversized and the 2 tires were pushed into one end and the tires are pushed in on half the tire. It’s going to be a choir to have mounted and aired up.

by:

Ordered two of these tires to replace two that are failing. Like the increased load range on these tires and perform well on the road. However, the two tires I needed to replace were because of loss of a portion of the tread on one of them and an area of extreme wear/cupping on the other tire. Speculate this was because I left the tires on the trailer over the four months of inactivity during winter season and they were sitting on a concrete surface. Lesson learned and will remove them and store indoors this winter

I am completely satisfied with the products and would order again.

by:

Same great quality as the pair I bought earlier with wheels. This one is to be the spare and these are great tires.

by:

Everything was good

by:

tires are strong and will work great with my trailer. Will give me peace of mind going down the road

by:

Tires came standing upright in a big box, making them easy to mount and air up because they didn't get deformed. Price was great and they are functioning properly.

by:

Better tires than [online store]. Great price. Will shop again.

FANTASTI?? NOT EVEN A FLAT AND NICE SMOOTH RIDE! HAVE CONFIDENCE IN THESE TIRES.GOT TO BECAUSE IM HAULING MY BABY ON THE TRAILER THERE ON MY 1300C HONDA MOTORCYCLE.HAVE HAULED IT MANY MILES ON THESE TIRES..THANKS ETRAILER FOR SERVICE AND PRODUCT ????

by:

Exactly what I needed. Next time I will purchase them already mounted. Less of a hassle!

by:

etrailer gets both thumbs up. They carried the high load range tires I could not find locally, priced right, and delivered promptly. I received the entire order correctly and on time. Thanks to their free shipping offer, I was also able to add a trailer light which pushed my order across the threshold for free shipping making it, in essence, a freebie.
I'll definitely go to etrailer first next time.

by:

These tires are wearing very well. I like the load rating since I occasionally carry things that might be kind of heavy.

The tires have worked out well. Ive had several Kenda tires and they are excellent. I never worry about them.

by:

The tires showed up in great shape and mounted perfectly on the old rims. It was an easy ordering and receiving process.

by:

These tires are very ruggedly built. They carry a load rating of D, and the stout construction is impressive. They are a bit more difficult to mount because of the stiff, rugged construction. So it takes some muscle and some patience if you are using hand tools to mount them. This is a nice upgrade over the tires that were originally installed on my trailer.

by:

Great product. Upgraded from B to D's. Wish these came with rims because they're impossible to mount yourself. Tire shop cost $10 per mount though. Already put 300 miles on them and no longer have the worry of overloaded tires. So far so good and arrived on time in perfect condition. Thanks!

by:

I purchased two 5.70.8 tires for my golf cart trailer. I ordered them on Sunday evening. I had some questions so called Etrailer and talked to Phillis. She answered all my questions and then actually competed my order and said tires would be shipped Monday ground transportation 5 to 7 days.
I
I thanked her said ok but would lose six or seven days without a cart. Low and behold she called me back and up graded my shipping to primer shipping
For same cost. Tires shipped on Monday received them Wednesday afternoon and was back on the road to golf on Thursday. Thank you .

by:

I've had nothing but good luck with kenda trailer tires, I don't even bother looking at other brands!

by:

One of the two tires blew up while hauling a light load at highway speeds (65mph).
For what I paid for the tires, I was very unhappy and got the royal run-around from the dealer and then passed off to the mfg. and got no joy from them. Save your money and just get HD tires from the big box stores.

by:

This is the second time I have dealt with etrailer in ordering tires . I have to say the service is outstanding , communication is great delivery time is right on schedule and I will use them again in the future .

by:

Tires are awesome

by:

OUTSTANDING customer service. Korren C. was very helpful in providing exactly the correct item(s). Ordering was simple, quick and done with a high degree of professionalism. I remain an avid etrailer customer due to their fast and courteous service as well as their knowledge of their products.Delivery of items arrived BEFORE anticipated date.

by:

I like the tires I purchased from you last year, I always receive great service and products from etrailer.com.

by:

Just received them today so this is not a total review but from a service standpoint they are great. Received a quick email from George to let me know they received my order. I wasn't in a hurry for the tires but they got here very quickly. I'll be buying more trailer parts from these folks in the future.

by:

Yor service is a very good thanks I'm very happy with the service

  • What Is The Speed Rating Of The Kenda 5.70-8 Wheel and Tire Combination AM30120?
The Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel - 4 on 4 - Load Range C # AM30120 you were looking at nor any of the 5.70-8 tires available come with a M speed rating of 81 MPH and instead are all rated to 65 MPH. A Load Range D tire is an 8-ply tire and will be able to carry a heavier load than a load range C, 6-ply, tire. The # AM30120 you were looking at is indeed a 6-ply tire with a load rating of 910lbs at 75 PSI. If you were needing a heavier duty tire you would need a load...

  • Availability of Tires That Fit 8" x 3-3/4" Wheels
We do have tires that will fit the Steel Trailer Wheel - 8" x 3-3/4" Rim - 4 on 4 - White # AM20001. You can use either a 4.80/4.00-8 tire or 5.70-8 tire. If you're replacing tires on your trailer I recommend choosing one that matches the size of your current tire. The Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 5.70-8 # AM10013 and the Kenda K371 Bias Trailer Tire - 4.80/4.00-8 - Load Range C # AM10004 will both work with this wheel. The # AM10013 is a load range D tire with a maximum capacity of...

  • Replacement Trailer Tires for a Boat Trailer with 4.80/4.00-8 Tires
First, bigger tires require that you have enough clearance around the existing tires on the trailer for the larger size. You will need to determine how much space there is available before going to a larger tire. Also going to larger tires will not increase the capacity of the trailer. The tires that we carry are rated for 65 miles per hour (unless otherwise stated on the tires). Trailer tire # AM10004 that you have referenced would be your best option if you stay with the same tire size....

  • Benefits of Upgrading to Higher Load Range Tires on Trailer
As you mentioned in your question, upgrading to higher load range tires on your trailer is not going to increase the weight capacity of the trailer itself. However, a higher-rated tire will have the benefit of running a bit cooler when compared to what you currently have mounted. Trailer tire failure is usually caused by excessive heat and the best way to prevent this is by observing the tires' rated weight capacity, speed rating and psi pressure. Using a tire that can handle more weight...

Both the 4.80/4.00-8 Trailer Tire, like # AM10002 that you selected, and the 5.70-8 Trailer Tire, like # AM10010, are designed to fit on 8 x 3-3/4 inch rims, so the smaller tires will mount on your rims. The problems come with weight capacity. The 4.80-8 trailer tires are only available in load range B and C while your original size tire is available in load range B, C and D. You will need to make sure that the tire you select is capable of carrying the gross weight of your trailer loaded...

Looking at the brochure for the 1994 Coleman Pop Up campers I do see they used a 5.7-8 tire like the Kenda Load Range B # AM10010. To move to a 12" wheel size you would need to change to a 12" wheel and tire like the Kenda 5.3-12 # AM30740. As this tire is almost 4" taller you would likely need to flip your axle to mount below your leaf springs. • Tire Replacement Recommendation for a 5.70-8 Trailer Tire
The 5.70-8 size tire you have on your trailer is pretty small in width and in diameter, so without knowing what clearance you have available on your trailer it would be hard to say for certain what the biggest size you could fit. The best recommendation I could make would be to go with the Load Range D in your current size and be sure to keep it inflated to it's max psi. For the tire only you would want the part # AM10013. You would need to keep 100 psi in this tire.

  • Can I Upgrade from a 4.800/4.00-8 Tire to a 5.7/8-8 Tire on a Time Out Tent Trailer
You can upgrade to a higher rated tire but the overall diameter will go up 2 inches and typically will end up also have a wider section width. If your trailer can accommodate the larger diameter and width then this is a possible solution for your trailer. Both the 4.80/4.00-8 and the 5.7/8-8 tires will fit a 3-3/4 inch rim width, so a tire like # AM10013 with a load range of D will have an overall diameter of 18 inches when fully inflated and have a section width of 5.8 inches. • Recommended Trailer Tire for an Old Motorcycle Trailer with 5.70-8 Tires
The axle capacity will help to determine the gross vehicle weight rating of the trailer but it is not a direct correlation. The only way to obtain the exact gross vehicle weight rating would be to call the trailer manufacturer with your VIN which if they are out of business would be difficult. Therefore, as long as the axle capacity exceeds the weight of your bike/trailer and the wheels/tires exceed the weight of the bike/trailer then you should be good in regards to weight. This is all...

  • What Size Wheel Does Trailer Tire Size 5.70-8 Fit
The tire size you need is a 5.70-8 like the part # AM10013 that you referenced. The wheel diameter difference that you mentioned is because you are measuring the mounting flange as well which does not factor in terms of actual wheel diameter and it is an inch tall total. So basically if you were to measure a trailer wheel you would need to subtract an inch from overall diameter to get correct diameter.
