Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Bought 2 tires to replace on very old trailer that I got for free. I had to have them shipped forward to me outside the US. Got them last Friday, had them on the trailer on Saturday. Today I made a first trip to the dumpster, very heavy load, maybe at max load for the tires, no problem at all. They are great tires. Etrailer service and attention was great. Thanks Carol.

First they were back-ordered for many months. Winter now in Pa. so boat is in storage & tires won't be installed for months. Concerned about their condition - they are very mis-shapen and crushed somehow. Maybe packaging from manufacturer. They are NOT nice round tires that will go right onto a wheel. We'll see if the tire installer has any issues with that seating the beads and inflating the tires. Looks potentially like an issue to me. They are the correct size.

The wheels should take shape fine after they are seated on a wheel.

tires came swiftly wrapped securely. preordering video was superb. best price on tire with better load capacity and highway speed rating that i found anywhere. i was most appreciative.

Have not utiilized them yet just put them into use this week . They will be stronger and perform better than the smaller tires with lower high way rating speed

What a great company. Spoke with Adam. Ordered to tires and met the threshold for free shipping. Didn't expect them to arrive for several days. Ordered on a Wednesday and the tires arrived Friday morning all the way to North Carolina with free shipping!! Not to mention the tires are fabulous!

Best trailer tires I have had. Still going strong. Great for highway speeds!! I will order again when the time comes. Great company to do business with

best 12 inch tire and price I have ever seen.

great tires
Steve L - 06/07/2015

Received the package within a just a couple days. Unfortunately one of the two tires was the wrong size. I contacted the store and they are sending a replacement of the correct size and I will return the incorrect one.

I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you.

These were the exact fit, style, and brand that I was looking for to replace the dry rotted tires on my 2 place Sea-doo Triton trailer. Shipped the same day I placed the order!

These tire are amazing. I use my trailer a lot on rocky roads and these tires stand up to the abuse they get. I definitely recommend these tires for trailers that carry 2000 lbs or less

I am very pleased with the product I received from etrailer. I received a courtesy call from Kelly at etrailer to inform me that the tires I ordered would be about a week late because the item was "out of stock". True to her word the tires shipped on or before her committed date. They arrived and I've already got them mounted waiting to leave for Colorado. Thanks so much.
I will definitely be ordering future items from etrailer.

Patrick I am just now getting to use them up here in Colorado. I pulled frm Texas up here with no problems. I am very pleased. As we speak I am in Ridgeway, Co with the camper. Thanks for the follow up. There are few vendors that follow up on their products after a year. Hats off to you and your company. Etrailer has always served me well. God bless you and Im praying you have a wonderful day.
Oval T - 05/19/2015

The tires have just been installed on our 'SnowBear' trailer, as a result I do not know how they will hold up over time. The 8 ply Kendas (load range D) are replacing Carlisle (load range C). They appear well made, the price was excellent, the shipment arrived very quickly and the customer service was outstanding.

is st145r12 wider than a 5-30-12

Shipping was quick. Packaging was great. I have only used these tires once so far, so dont know about how they will wear, but the load range D runs a lot cooler than the C that I used to buy for the same trailer.

I use these tires on a trailer gathering firewood. I have hauled heavy loads over rough ground and ran at highway speeds on the road This tire WORKS.
jim m - 06/12/2017

Received the two trailer tires that I ordered, tires look good, mounted them, and replaced the worn out ones on my trailer, Haven't had time to use the trailer as yet, but the price is good and the free shipping was relatively fast. So far I'm very pleased with the merchandise.

Tires still just fine.
Joe E - 04/07/2015

Got tires before I thought I would. Having them mounted tomorrow.

The tires were delivered a day of the projected delivery date. That was great. I also ordered a bearing kit which was delivered as well. Unfortunately for me I only ordered one bearing kit, I have two wheels, duh. I will be putting the tires on in the spring, too cold now but I am ready. Great service from a great company. Thanks!!!!

I had the tires mounted last year before any camping was done. My first trip was about 250 miles each way and they held up well. The second trip was about 400 miles each way and they still did well. I was pleased with my purchase. Even the date of manufacture on the tire was only a couple of months old, so I knew they were fresh tires.
Stephen B - 01/18/2017

Great price and shipped out fast!!! I will definitely use them for any of my other needs.

Tire is used as a spare, have not had to use it so far, thank GOD!
Only issue is installing the tire in the wheel, I took it to a tire shop, and it took 2 employees (who are professional tire guys) and about 20 minutes to remove the old tire and install this one. Not recommending purchasing the tire only if you are a DIY, best to purchase tire with wheel, save the headache.

Very pleased with shipping and shipping
time on the two 530/12 tires I ordered for my Flagstaff pop-up camping trailer. Wasn't sure how I was going to get them opened up enough to get them seated on my rims but decided to put a 12 inch inner tube I had from a Farmall Cub front tire inside and put just enough air to push them open the width of the rims. Left the tube in a couple days and when I deflated the tube the tires stayed open. Maybe someone else may want to try this. I haven't put them on my trailer yet so don't have a picture. Follow up later.

Much better tires than I had from manfacturer. Greater load capacity and better tread. Shipping was very quick. You cannot buy tires only like these near my location. Very satisfied

They are performing great. If I need tires, I will be ordering from you. Thanks

Purchased these tires for our pop up camper. Arrived in timely manner. Easy to install. Tires handle road great. Very pleased with this product.

Perfect! After searching around town for a few days and failing to find a "5.30x 12 load range D" replacement tire locally, I searched online and found an exact match at to replace my 12 year old boat trailer tires. After placing my order the tires were promptly shipped and delivered in a couple of days. I couldn't be more pleased with my experience with this retailer.

The old tires on my trailer were 5.30-12 load range C. The new tires I ordered were the same size, load range D. I was a little concerned in that the C range tires call for a 4 in wide rim and the new load range D tires require a 4 1/2 in wide rim. I am glad to say the new "D" tires fit on my 4 inch rims with no problems. A word of warning however, they are VERY stiff and difficult to get on the rim. I had a tire shop do the work.

Very pleased with the Kenda 5.30 X 12 tires. Local store wanted $70 plus tax for ONE tire that was only load range C (6ply). So I simply ordered TWO of these load range D (8ply) for $78 shipped to my door!
Very happy with etrailer prices, selection, and customer service.
Greg was very helpful. Plus fast free shipping, even at Christmas time.

Definitely will use etrailer again in the future!

Thank you Etrailer for the tires I purchased for my tent trailer. been looking for the load range D for this trailer, was hard to find but you had them so I ordered 2 and got them right when you said we would. Nice Kenda tires. Hoping they will last a lot longer than the C load range. I will let you know.

Wanted a heavier duty tire for my pop up camper with bikes loaded on top. Tires seemed well built and sturdy.Put around a 1,000 miles on them with no problems.Trailer tracked well over uneven pavement and interstate lines. Good quality and quick service.

I ordered the tires and rims on Friday and received them on Thursday the following week exactly as ordered. I the used trailer to haul hay and the current tires were load range B. I needed the extra capacity to be able to haul 2 tons. Great tires and rims. I have done business with E trailer in the past and have always received an excellent product with great service.

  • Are Bias Ply or Radial Tires Better to Pull 9 foot Pop-Up Camper
When pulling a pop-up camper, I would pick radial tires over bias ply tires mainly because they run cooler and because of their flexibility they have better contact with the road. Neither of the types of tires are rated to run at 70 mph. Trailer tires have a maximum speed rating of 65 mph. When you run a trailer tire for more than an hour at higher speeds, the heat build up can cause the tire to break down which will lead to tire failure. When you fill your tires, you should always fill...

  • Can a 5.30-12 Trailer Tire Replace a 4.80-12 Trailer Tire Using the Same Rim
Yes, the 4.80-12 tire size and the 5.30-12 tire size are both designed to fit the same rim width of 4 inches. So the tire you would want would be the part # AM10068 to fit your current trailer rim. This tire is a Load Range D tire with a capacity of 1,250 lbs at 105 psi. • 5.30-12 Trailer Tire Recommendation for Pop Up Camper
We sell trailer tires individually and premounted on trailer rims. If all you need is a tire in the 5.30-12 tire size that you referenced you would want the # AM10068. This is a Load Range D with 1,205 lbs of capacity when the tire is inflated to 105 psi. Trailer tires should always be inflated to their max psi. If a trailer tire is inflated to a lower air pressure than the maximum, the amount of weight that the tire can carry will be reduced. If a heavier load is put on the trailer tire...

  • Availability of 12 Inch Tires and Wheels For a Dual Axle Travel Trailer
A 5.30-12 size tire with a 6-ply rating (load range C) has a maximum load capacity of 1,045 lbs at 80 psi. So four of those tires on your travel trailer will have a combined load capacity of 4,180 lbs. If you go to a 8-ply rated tire ( load range D) in the 5.30-12 size the maximum load capacity is 1,250 lbs at 105 psi. Four of the 8-ply rated tires would have a combined load capacity of 5,000 lbs. This does not mean you can carry more weight, because you will still be limited by other parts...

  • 5.30-12 Tire Recommendation for a Livin Lite Quicksilver Pop Up
If you have a 5.30-12 tire size on your trailer currently I can safely recommend any of the 5.30-12 trailer tires we offer knowing that they will fit your rims. The part # AM10068 would be a great tire for you to use as it has a Load Range of D and will fit your rim. Generally speaking all 5.30-12 tire will fit either a 4 inch or 4-1/4 inch wide rim. Nearly all of these tires are mounted on 4 inch wide rims so I would be surprised if yours was a 4-1/4 inch wide rim.

  • New Trailer Tire Recommendation for a Haul-Master Folding Trailer with 5.30-12 Tires
The tire sizes 4.8-12 and 5.3-12 are very similar and often used on similar applications. As I'm sure you are aware, the 5.30-12 tires are just a little wider and they have slightly higher weight ratings. Since you are already using 5.30-12 tires, I recommend staying with that same size. A wider tire will have better ground contact and using a slightly stronger tire certainly won't hurt anything, especially if you are loading the trailer to the maximum weight capacity a lot. • Troubleshooting One Tire Wearing Out on a Tandem Axle Trailer
Typically when only one tire on a trailer wears out on a tandem axle trailer the problem is axle alignment. That would be the first place I would start. I believe you are asking about the strength differences between the tire sizes 4.80-12 and 5.30-12. The 5.30-12 has higher weight capacities available like with the Load Range D # AM10068 which has a capacity of 1,250 lbs at 105 psi.

  • Should Trailer Tires be Inflated to Maximum PSI in Hot Weather
Yes, trailer tires should always be inflated to the maximum psi as listed on the sidewall regardless of the outside temperature or the type of load you have on the trailer. Inflating them to their maximum psi allows them to maintain their load capacity so that you do not accidently overload the tires, which can lead to excess heat and tire failure. • How Much Should Trailer Tires be Inflated on a 2000 Coleman Pop-up Camper
Trailer tires should be inflated to the maximum psi indicated on the tire. If your tires read 50 psi then that is what you will want to inflate them to. The trailer tires cannot reach their capacity rating unless inflated to the maximum. Trailer tires have a thick sidewall so if they are under inflated that thick sidewall can generate excessive heat and lead to tire failure. I have linked our help article on trailer tires for you.
