Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

I bought these Karrier tires to replace the original Karrier tires that had worn out /failed (broken belt, uneven tread wear) on my 24’ RV. They have run over 8000 miles now and are still looking good. It is important to get the wheels balanced when new tires are installed.
It took a few weeks to get these as they were back ordered in 2021.

I purchased 2 tires and a tire and a rim for my spare. They look great and the fit was perfect. If I need tires again, I will be ordering them from etrailer.

I ordered two tires same numbers and one came smaller with different numbers.

I am sorry that you have received one of the tires incorrectly. I have sent this information over to our customer service department and they are currently working on sending you the correct missing tire. We would definitely appreciate your feedback once you are able to check out the reshipped items.

Thank you for quick delivery

These tires have held up the best on the three trailers I’ve had. They last forever quite a few miles. I pull my trailer (6,000 lbs) approximately 25,000 miles a year and these tires will run 3-4 years. And they hold their air.

I received the wrong tire number twice. Had to call, asked for the return labels and drive to UPS twice. After the second time they said that the new tires will arrive 6 month later. I have not received my refund after I asked 2 weeks ago. No the best experience for me.

I keep returning to these guys - service is superb & the prices are as low as you can find. Last order was OOS for 2 days over the holiday so they offered the better tire at the same price. Nice.

Thanks Nichole, Carol, George!

I bought a used 2013 Keystone Hideout from a private party. The rv didn't have a spare tire. I researched part numbers for the same Karrier tire and Dexter wheel that are on the camper. Search results had etrailer at the top of the list of responses. Prices for these pieces were competitive with other websites. Free shipping over 99 bucks sealed the deal. Just before making the order I noticed that two axle grease cap covers had cracks in them. I searched the ALKO/Hayes part numbers and etrailer was the only site ( other than the mfg ) to list/cross ref the covers AND they were in stock for a low price. I made the order on Tuesday and they arrived Friday which is real good for free shipping from Missouti to N.E. Pa ! Parts arrived securely packaged and in perfect shape. I am very satisfied with this order.

Hey, its a spare. Fully inflated and ready to go !
Dave W - 07/06/2017

Tires are great so far. No issues with installation at my local garage. Put over 600 miles on them and they're just fine.

The 4tires were delivered in days. I didn’t think it would be possible to deliver them that fast. Everything takes so much longer now. Like scheduling them to be installed on my 22 foot travel trailer. I’ll have to add another post after they’re installed.

Product was properly represented and received in great condition.

So far so good! 3000 Kms and going.

Excellent so far, about 10K miles on them and going like new
René L - 09/08/2021

Tires were delivered on time. They held up very well on their maiden voyage when we put 1200 miles on them in 2 days while pullinga boat. Smooth ride. Stayed a little below the stated speed rating just as precautionary but we did between 70 -75 mph the whole time.

Very pleased with my order

I was extremely pleased from the time I ordered the tires until they arrived. It was very easy to track them until they were delivered.

Tires are working out fine
David - 05/15/2021

I received my order (Karrier ST295/75R14) extremly fast and in good order. I've had it mounted and will be using it for a spare. For that reason I did not give it and excellent rating because I have no idea how well it will perform. Hopefully I'll never have to use it.
I will give an EXCELLENT rating for great service!

Its working well. Its still working hard as a spare.
John K - 12/03/2015

Great tire, preforms well on all road s urfaces.

This is my second purchase from etrailer and could not be happier with their products and shipping. I have purchased Karrier Loas Star ST205/75R14 trailer tires. They have proven to be wearing well and are very smooth. All the other trailer tire brands that I have used would delaminate and not hold up.

etrailer will always get my business!

I received my tires, Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C, within a few days if ordering. Very happy with that. They were well packaged, each tire in it's own box. They are mounted and my trailer is ready to go. I gave this 4 stars, because I haven't used them yet. Hopefully they'll be 5 star tires once I start using them.

I purchased a trailer tire. it arrived 3 days early.
the tire is good quality and a great price.

I only got one of the tire is it that I ordered. The order was for two

Thank you for leaving a review and letting us know. Our customer service team should be reaching out to you in the near future.

Bought a spare tire and wheel for my new travel trailer, that was an exact match as what was on the trailer. Etrailer had the best price, free shipping and I received the items in just a few days. I would gladly shop with them again, thanks etrailer.

I've been a customer for several years now, and the service during my recent purchase of 4 trailer tires was the usual excellent. Mariah assisted me in my purchase and was very helpful in getting them out a day sooner to meet my scheduled needs. The tires were individually packaged in boxes so they arrived in great shape. Thanks again etrailer!

Ordered four tires for my boat trailer the customer service was awesome and the tires recommended are excellant ! The tires were delivered quickly in nice boxes undamaged ready to be mounted. It was easy and stress free! The tires fit well , look and perform incredible !

I am so impressed with the over all experience with etrailer. I ordered these tires and rims on a Sunday and two days later they were mounted and on my trailer. That is fast . These tires are super easy to mount and they look great. Thanks again etrailer for superior service and great price.

  • Boat Trailer Tire Recommendation to Replace P185/65R14 Tires
I would recommend you replace the passenger vehicle tires you have on your boat trailer as soon as possible. You want to use ST specialty trailer rated tires as they are designed for increased vertical loads unlike a passenger vehicle rated tire. The closest tire size to what you currently have would be the ST205/74R14 like you referenced with part # AM10234. This tire size will be an additional 3 inches taller than what you currently have and 20 mm wider. You will need to verify that...

  • What Country Is The Kenda Radial Tire # AM10234 And How Long Ago Was It Made
I walked out to our warehouse and looked at the Kenda Radial Tire, part # AM10234. The tire is manufactured in China. The time stamp on the tire read 0911. This indicates that the tire was manufactured in the ninth week of 2011. You can find this number on one side of the tire after the DOT stamp near the bead of the tire. I have linked an FAQ on tires that you may find as a good reference.

Yes, the correct metric size for the F78-14 tire size is an ST205/75-14 tire size. The item you selected, Kenda Tire, part # AM10234, is an ST205/75-14 size and is a radial tire, which will replace your F78-14 tire. • What is the Difference Between Radial and Bias Ply Trailer Tires
The main difference between a radial ply and a bias ply tire is how the tire is constructed. The cords inside a bias ply tire run at a 32 degree angle to the direction of travel, and the cords on a radial tire run at a 90 degree angle to the direction of travel, or across the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. A radial tire flexes more than a bias tire, giving it better ground contact, traction, stability, and tread wear. A radial tire will normally run cooler than a bias ply tire, especially...

  • What Does Ply Rating of 6R Mean
From what I could find it doesn't look like there is any kind of 6R ply rating so I would guess that the R either stands for "rating" or possibly radial tire like what you find with the Karrier # AM10234. I spoke with our residential tire expert who confirmed this and stated that he's never heard of a 6R ply rating (and he's been in the tire industry for many years). Just make sure that you don't exceed the psi, weight, or speed ratings of your tires to prolong their life. I have attached...

Your B78-13 tires were designed to fit on 13" wheels. Since you are wanting to use 14" wheels you will need to go with a larger size tire as well. For your application I recommend going with the Kenda Karrier ST205/75R14 # AM10234. This will be a little over 1" wider than your current tire and be about 2" larger in diameter as well. Yes, a tire with a Load Range of C (1,925 lbs at 60 psi) like the Kenda ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10234 has more than enough weight capacity for your 1,190 lb boat. When you calculate tire weight capacity you will add the capacity of each tire together so in this case the combined weight rating is 3,850 lbs. • When Should Trailer Tires be Replaced
Trailer tires should be replaced about every 6 or 7 years, even if the tread is still in good shape because they will deteriorate over time. The UV rays are a big part of this but tires can also crack or even dry rot making them dangerous if not replaced. The risk is for leak development but even more than that is the tire coming apart and/or blowing out. You may also want to check out our tire covers to protect your tires and extend their life. • Are Different Size Trailer Tires Okay
It could be a problem for you to have tires with different psi ratings because that means it is likely you have different size tires. This will cause them to wear unevenly and for your trailer to potentially track differently and cause possible suspension issues. I very strongly recommend all four tires be the same size with the same load capacity in order to get the best possible performance. It may be something that cost a bit more now but is definitely one of those things that will save...
