Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

I purchased these tires a year ago and have used them to cross the country… Thousands of miles and they are looking great. I knew what kind of tire I wanted from the get-go and I’m glad I went with Karrier.

Poor description. Any other company that sells wheel and tire combos ships them assembled and filled with air. I was disapponted when these arrived not even mounted on the rims. Now I need to pay a tire shop to mount them.

I see that you have this tire along with rim part # AM20522
Dexstar Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel - 15" x 6" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - White Powder Coat
. We do have the tire with rim combination in part # TA47FR
Contender ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 15" White Mod Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range E
. The bolt pattern is the same as a 5 on a 4 and one half however it is a modular wheel versus a spoke design wheel.

Placed the order and the delivery was very quick. Very happy with the service. Would recommend

My son had good things to say about these tires and I wanted to try a different brand after having some issues with the ones I was using.
I checked with my local guy and he couldn't get these.

Found them on etrailer and they had the lowest prices with free shipping. Problem was I needed them for the weekend and you know how shipping goes, they are never there when they say they will be.

Well I spent $25 extra to get them here in three days. I could not believe it, they were here in three days! Must have been that two hours after I ordered them I already had a tracking number, that must have helped!

I got them mounted up with my new valve stems and they are looking good.

Best transaction I’ve had online. They had the tires I needed in stock and received them in less than three days. This is my second order from and will not be the last.. The tires came in individual boxes and were Not damaged at all. I highly recommend doing business with this company.

The tires are doing great on my travel trailer, in two weeks we will be taking it out for another 2000 mile trip, Great tires!!
Terry M - 05/22/2021

We have a 5th wheel & we normally travel about 3 months a year. However, this year we are traveling 6 months and we will be home by the end of April. So far we have traveled in 27 states and about 14,000 miles. I can't say enough about how good these tires have performed. Especially, since many of the roads and highways we have traveled are very rough. The tires are performing greatly, no flats, very good thread wear, (even on all four), no noise, no problems. I love them. +

Haven't put the tires on yes (just came in today), but I do have to say how happy I am with customer service. I ordered non-radial tires by mistake and realized my issue after I received word that the tires were being shipped. I quickly asked if radial tires can be swapped for the tires being shipped. The radial tires showed up - thank you!

Great tires on my 28' enclosed trailer. They have light rolling resistance, wear well and seem to have good traction in all weather conditions. I bought four to replace my originals after road debris caused two punctures on my last trip.

good tires have on heavy toy hauler when we changed form original tires to these you could feel the lessened rolling resistance , trailer moved much easier. Have gone a several long distance trips with these 2,000 miles plus with these towing a loaded heavy trailer . They handle weight well and have no bad traits. Picked up a spare tire from etrailer going on another trip a spare was original 12 yrs old. Hopefully i never use bought load range E and have them set at max inflation pressure.

Tires still working and wearing well have gone on 2 trips 6,000 miles total. Great tire at a great price
gearhead 7 - 10/11/2020

The service from etrailer for the Kenda/Karrier ST225/75Rx15 trailer tires was excellent. They shipped and arrived as promised. The price point was good as well as compared to others who sell these tires. These Load Range E will be used on my 25' enclosed car hauler trailer, replacing the factory tires that lasted only 18 months. The trailer is headed to Florida and back, from Pennsylvania, in March, so they will get a good workout.

The tires have preformed well. They have made several long trips with heavy weight with no problems. Wear has been slight after approximately 6000 miles. I will buy another set for my smaller trailer when they are needed.

Ordering Easy...Shipping Fast ... Tires are Good for our fleet of trailers and priced right...

I tried unsucessfully to order tires from but their web site would not process my order over the weekend so on monday i tried all day to talk to anybody to help me out but never got thru so tuesday i decided that if i cant even get thru to the sales dept why would i want to purchase there so i looked around and etrailer had the exact tires i wanted and a 110% low price garrantee so i called to get assistance and Judy answered and got me all hooked up i had to purchase them full price then she credited my account within 15 mins they were shipped that day and they were at my house thursday when i got home - Awesome, they came in individual boxes and when i opened them up and checked it out they were all the correct size and load rating and the build date on all the tires were 4516 which means they were built in the 45th week of 2016 which makes them about 3 and a half months old i am very pleased with Judy and all her help and etrailer for the super fast shipping i will be shopping here in the future

got about 5k miles on them now and they all are performing as they should

Really a quality tire very fast shipping looks good on my car trailer!!

Well shipping was great except I only received 3 of the 4 tires i ordered. Not sure what happened, but i need the 4th tire going to be traveling in about ten days.

I found a bad tire during my pretrip maintenance and 4 day shipping was exactly what I needed to get back up and running. Thanks Etrailer for coming through in the clutch.

I needed a tire for a spare and a co-worker told me about your company. Lots of choices and with free shipping, couldn’t go wrong ordering from you. Priced competitively, arrived boxed(!), nice and clean. Will definitely use the company again for any trailer related items needed in the future.

Thankfully, it’s a spare and haven’t had to use it! Holding air and looks as new with no miles.

Kenda Karrier Load Star tires were highly recommended by other trailer owners to me. These tires are load rated E, the best load tire for an 15" tire, and they are speed rated M, which I believe is 81 MPH. As far as I know, only the Goodyear Endurance tire is speed rated N, which comes at a higher cost. It is too early to tell you just how good they are, yet I have high confidence in them.

The tires and wheel arrived when expected and were in good shape. I have not been on the road yet to judge the performance but the product appears to be of good quality.

fast shipping, quality products, good p rices

I went on a trip for 2 weeks and 4480 towing with my Airstream and these tires handled well. No problems with them at all. When not in use the trailer is parked in a garage, so not subject to any elements. The tires held well, no air pressure loss and did as expected for a trailer tire

Service at trailer is outstanding. Adam helped me locate the rims and tires for my 1951 Spartan Imperial Mansion.

He worked directly with the supplier of the product to find me what I needed -- black rims and tires. They had them delivered to me in two days at no charge.

You can't beat for value and service. I'll be buying more from them for sure.

Great and fast service. Thanks Tammy for the order updates!

I have not mounted the tires yet, although I have had good experiences with Kenda tires in the past. But the prompt and courteous service that Judy and George provided is second to none. They quickly responded about a price match and when I turned around the tires had already been shipped and were here about two days later. Being new to the fifth wheel camping world, I have found etrailer's prices to be great and the instructional videos are a huge resource. Can't say enough about the great service. Thanks again!- Erik

I ordered the best 15X6 wheel and tire I could find from e trailer. I have received the wheels and tires in a very timely manner. I have installed them on my trailer. They look excellent. Time will tell if they hold up. So far, I recommend e trailer.

Great tires, seem to be doing well after a year.

  • Comparing the Kenda Karrier and the Maxxis M8008 225/75R15 Size Tire
From the research that I have done it looks like the specs for each tire is the same. The Kenda Karrier ST225/75R15 # AM10303 is a 10 ply tire with a Load Range of E (2,830 lbs at 80 psi) that can fit 15" x 6", 15" x 6-1/2", and 15" x 7" wheels. It has double steel belts and full nylon plies combined to give superior functionality and helps the tire to last longer. The tread has also been computer-generated for maximum traction. The max speed that can be achieved with the Karrier is 65...

  • Should Trailer Tire PSI Match Sticker on Trailer or Number on Tire Sidewall
Trailer tires should always be inflated to their maximum psi as listed on the sidewall of the tire itself. This means you should inflate the new tires on your trailer to the 80 psi that you mentioned in your question. The sticker on the trailer refers to the psi that was listed on the stock tires. It sounds like you replaced the factory tires with units that have a higher load range capacity, which explains the jump in maximum psi. I have attached a great article on trailer tires that...

  • Are Bias Ply and Radial Ply Tires Compatible with Each Other on Trailer
The ST225/75D15 tires on your trailer indicate that they are bias ply tires, different than the ST225/75R15 units also on your trailer, which are radial ply tires. I do not recommend maintaining this existing mix between the two tire types, as they will not track the same which can result in uneven tire wear down the line. I recommend replacing the two bias ply tires on your trailer with radials so that all of them match. When choosing replacement tires, you will also want to make sure...

  • Can Trailer Tires be Inflated to Lower PSI than Listing on Sidewall
Trailer tires should always be inflated to the maximum air pressure as listed on the tire's sidewall. I cannot recommend inflating your new tires to below their maximum psi, as the amount of weight they are designed to support will also be reduced. Your ST225/75R15 sized tires with a Load Range E have a maximum capacity of 2,830 pounds at 80 psi. Inflating them to 65 psi will essentially reduce their maximum capacity to an unknown number, which can potentially cause you to overload them...

The trailer manufacturer determines what size tire and load range is adequate for the trailer. Personally, when looking for trailer tires, I try to find a tire that meets or exceeds the weight capacity of my axle in the same size tire used by the manufacturer. This allows for a small safety net considering the axles do not hold the entire gross trailer weight(GTW). On 5th wheel applications, about 20% of the weight is resting on the rear axle of the tow vehicle if loaded properly. The...

So for example the Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E # AM10303 has a maximum load capacity of 2,830 lbs at 80 psi. I wouldn't recommend doing so, especially given the amount of weight your dealing with on a triple axle trailer.
