Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

  • Dimensions of a 205/50-10 and a 205/65-10 Trailer Tire
I may have an option for you but we do not carry 4.80x10 or 5.20x10 trailer tires as this is an extremely uncommon tire size. The only tires we have confirmed to fit a 10" wheel are a 205/50-10 or a 205/65-10 tire. For a 205/50-10 tire I recommend using the Kenda K399 Pro-Tour Bias part # AM40406 and for a 205/65-10 tire I recommend using the Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM1HP50. A 205/50-10 tire is going to be 18.3" in diameter and 7.7" wide. A 205/65-10 is going to be about...

  • Which Load Rating ST205/65-10 Is Best For a 1992 Jayco Pop Up Camper?
I wish I could say this is the exact tire you need Ron, but I will actually need a bit more information from you to know which tire is best for your 1992 Jayco pop up camper. For the 205/65-10 we have a load range B # AM1HP50, C # AM1HP52, D # AM1HP54 and E # AM1HP56. The best way to know which tire is going to be best is by knowing the trailers maximum weight capacity which I can find with either the model number of your camper or you can check the manufacturer weight tag on the front...

  • Pros/Cons To Replacing Or Upgrading Tires And Wheels On A Pop Up Camper
Hello Paul. The main factor to consider when replacing/upgrading your tires is the clearance in the fender area. Our rule of thumb is that you want at least 3" between the tire and the fender, and at least 1" between the inside of the tire and the frame of the trailer. If you have already checked and verified that you have adequate clearance, there really is no downside to going with larger tires. One thing to keep in mind when upgrading tires is we do not want to overkill the load rating...

  • How To Choose Correct Load Range for 205/65-10 Tire
The 205/65-10 tire I recommend is the Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire which is offered in a load range b (910 lbs) part # AM1HP50, load range c (1,100 lbs) part # AM1HP52, and load range d (1,330 lbs) part # AM1HP54. In order to choose the correct load range you will need to know the total weight of the trailer and choose the set that meets or exceeds this figure. For example, if your trailer weighs 2,000 lbs then you will want to go with the load range c or load range d tires.

  • Replacement for 20.5 x 8-10 Tire and 5-Lug Wheel
So you mentioned wheel, though the 20.5 x 8-10 size you mentioned is actually a tire size, which leads me to think you are looking for a replacement wheel and tire of that size. Since that's an older tire size, what you will need is the modern equivalent, a size 205/65-10 tire, along with a wheel that the tire will fit on. We have just 205/65-10 tires, or just the 5-lug 10 inch rim, or a combination of the tire and rim together if that is what you are looking for. Here are the options...

  • Can Larger Wheel Or Tire Be Used On 1989 Coleman Columbia Pop Up Camper
You can go to a larger wheel or tire on your stock axle as long as the wheel matches the current bolt pattern and you have enough clearance with the larger size. It looks like you have something like a 205/65-10 tire similar to the # AM1HP50 with a 4 on 4 bolt pattern right now so we will use this as an example. The # AM1HP50 has an outer diameter of 20.8" and an 8.3" section width. This has a large section width so the inside clearance probably wont' be a problem and you will want to...

  • Are 20.5 x 8-10 and 205/65-10 Trailer Tires the Same Size
Although I can't speak to why someone printed that on a tire, but the two sizes are almost exactly the same, so maybe it was an approximation by the tire manufacturers. Essentially you can swap the two out with no issue because a 20.5 x 8 -10 is 20-1/2 inches in diameter and 8 inches wide, while a 205/65-10 tire is 20-1/2 inches in diameter and 8.3 inches wide, so the difference is extremely slight. • How Much Does a 205/65-10 Load Range B Tire Weigh
For starters, the weight that 35 psi of air will add to a tire will be so insignificant that it would require a scale that measures to the thousandth of a lb to even record any change. Also, there is no standard weight for a 205/65-10 load range b tire as it will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. The weight of the wheel is going to be the main factor as you cannot exactly air the tire up unless mounted to a wheel. With that being said, the Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM1HP50...

The trailer tires that we carry are rated for 65 miles per hour. Trailer tires should always be inflated to the maximum psi as indicated on the tire. Trailer tires are built with a thicker sidewall. A thicker sidewall can generate more heat but an under inflated thicker sidewall will generate excessive heat and cause a tire to fail.
