Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Needed to replace a tire made in 2019 which was punctured in the tread on a rocky mountain road during a hunting trip. Tire was on my trailer which I pull camping gear in. New tires arrived on time in good shape. I did notice some minor differences from the tires purchased in 2019. The inside of the rim isn't painted as well, can see some grey where paint isn't thick and the lettering on the tire (load range, year made, etc.) isn't as crisp or sharply defined. Don't think this make a difference in performance, but is noticeable when comparing to the last set I ordered 3 years ago.

Worked out well for me. Fast delivery and good price
I needed some tires to move a Bart find boat.

Hello, I purchased 3 of these (one for a spare) tire/wheel combinations from for my utility trailer. The price was great & the shipping was fast. My trailer originally had 4.80-8 tires and rims.
I wanted something a little taller. The trailer also had quite a bit of tire/fender clearance. To lower the trailer deck back down, I flipped the axle over and ran the leaf springs under the axle. I then re-drilled the fender mounting locations to regain the clearance that I had lost. All of this was quite simple. I will use again in the future. I would not hesitate to recommend them for all of your trailer needs.

Delivered in strong package, tires and rims as shown and in a timely manner, thanks.

Arrived fast, looks great, installed perfect! Thank you.

We ordered these to replace the tires on a tent trailer that had been sitting for over 4 years. etrailer got these sent to us in time to my the 900 mile drive back home.Having the rims and tires already mounted, saved me a bunch of time not having to go to a tire shop.

The wheels came with the tires fully inflated, (I checked before installing). Fit was perfect and most of all the price was better than buying a tire and having it installed and balanced. They looked great on the pop up camper I converted to a trailer.

I'm very pleased with the tires..They are an exact fit and even have the stripes on them to make them even more appealing. The shipping was super fast 3days..Amazing.I havent mounted them yet as I'm going to repaint the frame first and lube the bearings. As soon as I do I will send pictures..

These tires are great. I purchased them due to the recommended factory size recommended on the trailer to replace a 4.8 x 12 size tire. The difference is amazing.

Kenda tires were the OEM tires on my single axle Viking Pop Up. The original tires were weather cracked from 6 years of outside storage, so I decided to replace them even though they had plenty of tread left. The wheels were still like new, so I thought I'd save some $$ and I buy replacement tires only from my local RV store (not Kenda brand). I had a difficult time finding a tire shop that would mount 12 inch wheels. I bargained with used tire shop and paid $25 to mount and balance two tires. The money I saved on the tires, I spent mounting them. With less than 2 years on those generic tires I had a blowout on the highway, fortunately no damage done to camper, but the wheel was destroyed. I learned my lesson. I should have bought the Kenda tires. I have probably 3 to 4000 miles on these new tires, and they look like new.

Just wanted to thank E trailer for the very quick service on the replacement tires and rims for my recently purchased pop up camper. This the second purchase I have made from E trailer and it goes without saying that the quality and price of the items I purchased this time were of the highest quality and below any price I could find locally here in Milwaukee or on the internet. I had previously purchased a trailer hitch and trailer light hook up kit from E trailer , and with the help of their great install videos , installation was a snap for my 2006 Ford escape. I think 3 day service ground delivery is unheard of these days. Kudos to the shipping and receiving and order entry people at E trailer . I will be back that is for sure.

Customer service team was exceptional! Ordered 5 tires and wheels for a custom application and found that they wouldn't fit. etrailer made an exchange at my request to solve my fit issue. New set arrived immediately and exchange was completed at no expense to me. Best customer service I've ever experienced! Great place to do business with.

Just got back from a 400 mile trip. I installed these 12" tires on my Haulin utility trailer to replace the 8" tires on them, so I was safer on the freeway. I looked around town first for tires & rims, no one had a class C rated 4 on 4 rim & tire, so I have bought my hitches from etrailer. I checked their web site and they had it for a great price and I was very impressed with the quality of them.

I was running 4.80x12 tires on my homemade camping trailer but they were worn out. I decided to upgrade to these 5.30x12 tires because of the increased weight capacity. They were a great fit for the trailer and the price couldn't be beat.

Olivia at
I now have lug
nuts and extra beer money!
I had to do a lot of planning for this application. It took months to find hubs to fit these 3/4 " straight spindles (Hub Part# AZ2298) which were obtained through another source. Gone are the factory wheelbarrow tires.. l upgraded to these nice 4 on 4 wheels and 5.30 - 12 tires which were promptly shipped free and on time all the way from Wentzeville Missouri to Bend Oregon. Thank You Olivia for a pleasant experience and Cheers from Bend!

Quality product. Great service!

Kaykyn is an amazing rep for your organization. She provided informative, correct information for my needs. Thank you

Needed to upgrade some 8" wheels and tires on my discount hardware store-purchased DIY trailer. Doing more and more highway travelling and wanted something that would roll easier and handle higher speeds.
I placed the order on Tuesday afternoon and hoped that I would have on Friday before a beach vacation next week. Spoke with CS and they were very helpful. Called back once there was a tracking number and Phyllis (?) went so far as to call UPS and call me back!!! Almost unheard of these days. To my surprise, both wheels/tires shipped in 1 box and arrived today (Friday).
Trailer looks like a rockstar now instead a danky karaoke bar singer.
5 outta 5 will be recommending.

I hope this messages finds you well.

see the attached pictures from Thomas from Indiana. He sent in pictures of the tire and wheel assemblies he bought from us, part# AM30780. He was a pleasure to work with and is taking his trailer up to Manitoba near the Arctic Circle. I thought I would share with you so you can consider adding them to the product page.

quick delivery for something I just couldn't seem to get locally and at a better price with free delivery

The tires were delivered quickly. I moved up a size with these new tires and they Handel very well. Best prices and great customer service.

Quality appearing wheel and tire with 6 ply for extra tread wear. Shipping was quick and nicely packaged to prevent wheel scuffs etc.

The rim and tire worked well and was fairly priced.

Order and delivered as described. Will do business with again

Great service! Ordered these for my 18 year old cargo trailer. They arrived quicker than expected and were ready to install right out of the box! Looks great!

  • Do Trailer Wheel and Tires Come Balanced
The tire and wheel combos we carry like the part # AM30780 are not machined balanced. You can have the tire and wheel combos balanced at a local tire shop if you wanted to. What some manufacturers will do is line up the light spot on the tire with the heavy spot on the wheel. This is a type of balancing but not like how car tires are balanced (with weights on a balancing machine).

  • Does The Tire And Wheel Come Mounted Or Separate On The # AM30780?
The Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" White Wheel - 4 on 4 - Load Range C, # AM30780, comes mounted on the rim and with air, balanced, and ready to install. I suggest double checking the air pressure to make sure it is at maximum psi as the weather can effect that even in shipping.

  • Recommendation for Tire and Wheel to use as Spare on Boat Trailer with 155R/12C 83/81Q Tires
Yes, the Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12 Inch White Wheel, # AM30780, will work for you but I recommend that you only use it as an emergency spare. This bias ply tire has a section width of 5.6 inches, an outer diameter of 21.9 inches, and a maximum load rating of 1,045 pounds at 80 psi. Although we do not have a 155R/12C 83/81Q tire available, I was able to obtain a bit of information about it. That radial tire has a section width of 6.18 inches, an outer diameter of 21.4 inches,...

  • Trailer Used Only Twice in 6 Years, Should the Tires be Replaced
If the trailer was stored inside then the tires might be fine. Examine them closely and if you can see cracks, even small cracks, on the sidewall or tread then that is an indication that they could be suffering from dry rot and would need to be replaced. I had some new tires on a vehicle and they must have been sitting for a long time because although they looked new when I started driving on them they started to lose air and crack badly. It would probably be a good idea to go ahead and...

  • Can 5.30-12 Trailer Tires be Used in Place of 205/65-10 Trailer Tires
The modern equivalent of a 20.5x8-10 tire is a 205/65-10. This size tire is 20-1/2 inches tall and 8.3 inches wide. A 5.30-12 tire is going to be taller at 21.9 inches tall but more narrow at 5.6 inches wide. The 5.30-12 tires also have a lower capacity maxing out at 1,250 pounds for a load range D. Whereas a 205/65-10 tire maxes out at 1,650 pounds for a load range E. If the capacity and height difference will still work with your trailer then you can go to the 5.30-12 tires and wheels....

The Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" White Wheel # AM30780 has a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern. Measure straight across from one wheel stud to the one directly across from it and if that measures 4 inches you have a 4 on 4 bolt pattern.

  • Spare Wheel and Tire Recommendation with 5.30-12 Tire on 4 Lug Rim
For a wheel and tire that has a 5.30-12 size tire and a rim with a 4 lug bolt pattern you would want the part # AM30780. It doesn't have a center cap on it, but you really don't need one so it wouldn't be necessary.

  • What Pressure Do Trailer Tires Need to Be Inflated To
Trailer tires need to be inflated to the max psi rating listed on the tire sidewall. You will want to inflate them when cold. We don't carry the specific tire you have so we don't have the info, but it will be listed on the side of the trailer sidewall. Failure to inflate the tire to the max psi will cause heat build up and loss of tire weight capacity.

  • Availability of Trailer Rim and Tire with Size 5.30-12 on a 4 Bolt Rim
The highest wheel and tire combo we offer in the size you need is going to be the Load Range C part # AM30780 that has a 1,045 lbs at 80 psi capacity. The rim has a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern and the tire is the size you need of 5.30x12. The tire does only have a 6 ply rating, but all that really matters is the capacity of the tire in relation to how much your trailer weighs. If this tire's capacity of 1,045 lbs is high enough for your trailer it would work great.

Your overall tire diameter would be 21.7 inches. While we do not carry the exact same tire size as what you have we do carry a tire that is very close at 21.9 inches. For that size tire mounted on a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern wheel you would want part # AM30780. You should also verify that your wheel/tire combo is rated for use on a trailer. The size you listed isn't a standard trailer size.

  • Can Tire Size 5.30-12 Easily Replace 4.80-12 on Trailer
As long as you have the clearance needed to fit a tire that's slightly taller and wider than what you currently have a 5.30-12 would work well. Your current tire size is 20.5 inches in diameter and the 5.30-12 is 21.9 inches in diameter. So this would eat up about 3/4 of an inch of your current fender clearance. Assuming that's not an issue the # AM30780 would work fine since the bolt pattern matches.
