Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Tires look great, the wheels have some bubbling in the galvanized finish identical to what other review photos show. Otherwise the price is perfect for a trailer that sits most of the year. Great replacements for the original tires/wheels on my 04 Snowbear utility trailer. I preferred the galvanized look over the white wheels with pin stripes.

by:

Bought one as spare 3 months ago. So much better then what trailer has as stock wheels and tires. So I bought another to replace both wheels and use old ones for two spares.

Got some wheel locks too.

Excellent! Service! I needed this ASAP as I’m in the road and it arrived fast as light! Thx Savana and crew !!

Very fast delivery
Secure shipping packaging

Have not had time to
Open packaging or evaluate boat trailer wheels yet.
Everyone at etrailer has been great to work with and to address my needs.
I manage and maintain over several boat trailers so I need to hsbe a reliable source of parts and products.
So far etrailer.com has met my needs promptly and efficiently!!

I buy regularly from etrailer.com to support my business.
Etrailer.com has performed in an excellent manner over the 4 years i a have used them.

I don't normally write reviews but etrailer staff went out of their way to help so I will put in my two cents. Have only had the wheels/tires for a few days but look pretty good for the price. Will say that the welded seams are a little rough, but appear sturdy.

My boat trailer was stored at previous owners yacht club as a dolly since 96 and most everything rusted out. I now realize I should have picked up a hub kit from etrailer with this wheel/tire combo but had already had a local mechanic replace all bearings/races/seals but tire code was 2004 even though they looked great. About to go on a road trip with the boat/trailer and tires were too old so this new set got me on the road economically and the rims are galvanized as trailer will mostly be in the salt. Got new lug nuts for marine application as well as advised by etrailer associate on the phone. I would advise anyone to call etrailer with questions as they definitely know customer service.

Handy "how to measure" etrailer guide worked out great and I did have the 4.5" 5 lug model so it was a perfect fit. Unfortunately, when torqued to the 75-85 lbs recommended in the etrailer torque guide one wheel lug pulled right through although I think it's just that its time had come. etrailer had the part but I needed it quick and picked it up locally and am ready for my trip.

Not my first time visiting etrailer.com, wont be my last. Not sure if I can update this review, but will try if any wear/durability problems with the Kenda tires.

Awesome wheel and tire combo, year later look like new buy again in a minute. Happy camper

by:

The wheel bearings on my utility trailer gave out and the local Les Schwab wanted an arm and a leg to replace them. They also noted the tires were at the local tread limit and needed to be replaced. So I went searching for lower cost alternatives.

I found etrailer.com on a google search and was impressed by their selection, low pricing and expert help on their website. I ended up ordering two Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C and two Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized from etrailer, and also a set of Reese Towpower 74177 Wheel Bearing Protectors from Amazon. My total cost was LESS THAN the price Les Schwab quoted me for bearing replacements for the two wheels.

They are all on my trailer and and look great. I am really impressed by the quality of parts from etrailer and also their great pricing. Give them a try!

Tires and wheels are holding up well, very satisfied with my purchase. Will buy again from eTrailer and also recommend to my friends.

While you are right that it does not come with extra hardware, it should not have been rusted. I will have our customer service team reach out to you about this.

by:

Worked out perfectly. Inflated to recommend psi and drove the trailer fully loaded for a 1600 mile trip

by:

Price was good and shipping was fast, but the finish on these rims (even for the price) is lacking, in my opinion. I didnt' expect a chrome-like finish from galvanized but these things are not something to be proud of. Every one of the 4 I purchased has what appear to be rust spots under the galvanization. Two of them have spots where the galvanization does not seem to have adhered properly. While maybe they will hold up OK for a while, the main reason I purchased new tires AND wheels was because my existing wheels were looking aged. These don't look much better.

by:

Order came in on time and well packaged. My trailer is a 2004 and the new tires and rims made it look much better

by:

Just needed a spare for my atv trailer. Found easily on etrailer site. Fair price and was delivered extremely fast with standard shipping

by:

Product looks very good. The galvanized rim is perfect for my application. Also the price was very competetive. Thanks!

by:

Excellent service; product is exactly what I needed. Etrailer is the go to place for trailer needs.

Great. I have always been happy with the etrailer tirewheels. They look and work well. No complaints. Thank you!

by:

Tire and wheel was exactly what I ordered order was processed and shipped quickly.

by:

Shipping is the problem.. When the order was placed it was promised deliver in two days. The wheels came in two days UPS without issue. However, the Wheel bearing kits were not sent with the wheels but in a separate box by USPS and is not due for an additional four days. The quick shipping on the wheels is no good without the wheel bearings. Plenty of room in the box to place two wheel bearing kits. Very disappointing.

by:

Wheels received promptly and as advertised. Tire mfg dated June 2022, so already a year old or would have rated 5 stars.

by:

Excellent tires and wheels and outstanding shipping and service. Will only buy all my trailer stuff from here.

by:

Wheel and tire look good on trailer

by:

Have owned these for a year and so far they've been great. No issues whatsoever, would recommend if you're looking for a good replacement.

by:

The tires and wheel were installed onto a snowcat, as replacement 'roller wheels'. So, not a trailer application for my use.

by:

Explored many different options for this project, came back to this vendor for ease of site, product offerings, and pricing value. Received the product as expected and delivered on time as indicated. The wheels and tires were found to be as advertised, no surprises, overall an excellent experience.

by:

Shipped fast. Always do.

by:

Shipped same day as ordered. Very quick delivery. Impressed

  • Are Carlisle 5.30-12 Tire, Load Range C, the Same as Kenda Loadstar 5.30-12 Tire, Load Range C
The Carlisle 5.30-12 tire and the Loadstar 5.30-12 Tire, # AM30850, are very similar. They are the same size and have the same load range rating (load range C). A tire with a C load range should have a ply rating of 6. So in size, load range, and ply rating, they have the same specifications. A tire can have a 6-ply rating (load range C) and not necessarily have 6 plies listed on the sidewall of the tire. The ply ratings were introduced when tires used cotton layers to strengthen a tire...

  • What is the Speed Rating on a 5.30x12 Trailer Tire
Many times, trailer tires do not have a speed rating. The tires that we carry are rated for up to 65 miles per hour unless otherwise indicated on the tire sidewall. Since 185/80-12 is not a common trailer tire size, it would require going to a 13 inch wheel and you may or may not have clearance around the tire for the larger size. There is a 145/80-12 trailer tire size that will be about a half inch wider than a 5.30x12. I have included a link to them for you to view and a link on trailer...

It looks like your Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C # AM30850 uses 1/2" lug bolts/nuts. If this is correct, then the correct torque specs would be 75-85 ft.-lb. If you are using something other than 1/2" lug bolts/nuts then use the chart I attached which shows the various torque specs. It is recommended to inflate trailer tires to the max psi, in this case, 80psi. If the tires are under-inflated then you could risk a blow out and the...

The Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C part # AM30850 is a lug-centric wheel which means it attaches by the lugs not the bore/pilot hole of the wheel. The existing wheel having a smaller bore diameter will not make a difference. 5.30-12 is a pretty common trailer tire size, whereas 5x4.5 is a very common wheel bolt pattern but not actually a tire size. For example the wheel and tire part # AM30850 is a 5.30-12 tire size mounted on a wheel with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern.

These tires have the same specs as your existing setup, but the wheels are 12" x 4", so they are slightly more narrow than a 4.25" wide wheel you've mentioned.
