Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

The Tires where box up great and there were no problems with transportation
and I noticed right away that they had steel tire stems which are great also.
I will call on axle hubs and see if you have the ones that have a grease zerk in the so you can drive the grease out of the front the bearing size is L44649
national brand I just need the hub and the front and rear races installed no bearings or seal needed I use all national parts

Bought 2 of these for my pontoon trailer to replace the old ones. They arrived earlier than promised, seem to be of good quality and are exactly what I needed.

Bought two of the 12" Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire & White Wheel for my Pontoon Boat Trailer. Came on time and was perfect. I've put a lot of miles on it taking my pontoon to different finger lakes in NW PA and they perform perfectly and I travel 70 mph. Definitely recommend this tire and wheel and company as it came exactly as they said it would. Will not hesitate to buy from them again.

by:

by: 10/15/2023

Super Fast shipping and a flawless transaction. From Missouri to Tennessee in 2 days. Very well packaged. Would definitely recommend. A little more expensive but I needed a higher load range and higher quality tire. Noticed also the valves stems are steel, not rubber

by:

One year review kenda d-rated trailer tires. No issues to report with these tires and rims. D-rating put to the test on several gravel pit runs. etrailer is still a five star company provide prompt service, knowledgable staff and reliable products.

by:

I received these tires in a timely fashion. I have not had the opportunity to put them on my trailer yet but I feel that they will be a great tire. The rating was just what I needed to see as I will be hauling my Indian full-dressed motorcycle on this trailer at times. I didn't want to trust the old tires that came on the trailer.

Great price and fast shipping! Etrailer.com is a great place to do business.

They have been great, thanks.

We bought a pair of these tires/wheels a year ago and put them on our Teardrop camper trailer. We later traveled Route 66 from Missouri to the California border, through Death Valley with temps near 120 degrees and from there North through the remainder of California, Oregon and Washington. We then headed East through Montana, the Dakotas and a corner of Minnesota before returning to Iowa. The tires performed flawlessly, All in all we put a little over 8,000 miles on them.

Would definitely recommend them to anyone.

by:

Fit just like the old ones in every way. These have the good metal valve steams that seem to last longer for me then the rubber cased ones. Etrailer has the best price I could find, and load range D that I could not find local. These also came in a box (well 2 boxes, 2 units per box) which I was somewhat surprised on, I have ordered wheels and tires before from other vendors and they were just tied together with cardboard on the wheel, it was nice to see these actually in a box. Will come back to etrailer when I need to replace these again, its somewhat of an odd ball size as well so I was glad to find them somewhere in stock.

by:

Great tire/rim replacement for my basstracker trailer. Great support and customer service. George was there to answer all my question.

Bert

6/1/2022

After a year of no problems and about 1000 miles I would recommend this company and product.

by:

Good fit, and no problems and fast shipping what else can you ask for?

by:

Great tires and wheels. These are and upgrade for a Carry All trailer that came with 4.8 x 12 tires. Wider than the original tires on the trailer and they have a higher load rating at a very good price. I flipped the axle and these add a little more clearance. I bought 2 so I will change both out incase of a flat and when the original tires wear out.

by:

etrailer did an excellent job - easy to place the order, delivery was better than expected, and the right product got delivered. Oh yeah, the product was good too! This transaction could not have gone better.

Mark T.

This isnt rocket science but even a year later these tires and rims have totally performed as advertised. Meeting expectations isnt something to be taken for granted - good job!

  • Product Differences Between Wheel and Tire Package AM30859 and AM30861
The Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" Galvanized Wheel # AM30861 and Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" White Wheel # AM30859 both have the same Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10068. The only difference is the white powder coated wheel versus the galvanized wheel. They both sit the same 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern with 0 offset. There is no reason you cannot use the galvanized wheel on your 2007 StarCraft 2106 popup camper. It will simply be a cosmetic difference. The galvanized...

We do not have a load range D tire, like the one on # AM30859, on a 4 on 4 white wheel. But what we do have is # AM30780. This is a 5.30-12 tire on a 4 on 4 white wheel and a load range C tire. The tire is rated for 1,045 pounds at 80 psi. A tire blowout can be caused by not inflating the tire to the correct psi. If your current tires are also rated for 80 psi, then that would be correct. You always want to inflate the tires to max psi indicated on the tire. Another possible problem...

A 4.80-8 trailer tire size is going to have a max capacity of 760 lbs when inflated to 90 psi per tire. So not only would it not have enough capacity it would be too skinny to fit the wider rim you have for your 215/60-8 tires. Another option you have that would provide you with a skinnier tire that would also be 3 inches taller would be to go with a 5.30-12 rim and tire like the part # AM30859. Unless otherwise stated, all trailer tires are rated at 65 mph. The Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire # AM30859 is no exception. Trailer tires should always be inflated to their maximum psi rating. With maximum air pressure, the tires will perform and wear better, and will get better gas mileage. If a tire is inflated to a lower air pressure it will reduce the amount of weight that the tire can carry. If a heavier load is put on the trailer tire than what is recommended for that air pressure...

When you say blowouts and attribute them to heat buildup, you are correct. The reason you have heat buildup in tires is not just because of the size, it will also be from overloading, damage to the tires and age. So to just change size first might not solve the problem. If the tires hit curbs a lot it would cause damage to the sidewalls and form a weak spot, which would allow the heat to buildup and go to the weakest spot in the tire and fail. Also any punctures or repairs to the tires...

First, we do have 5.30x12 tire and wheel combos with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern available. For a load range D it would be # AM30859. This tire and wheel combo is rated for 1,250 pounds at 105 psi. It includes a white steel wheel. The Kenda S-Trail ST145R12 Radial Trailer Tire, # AM31202, with galvanized spoke wheel is only 0.1 inches wider and 0.6 inches shorter so it will most likely fit.
