Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Tire is a great tire, as were my others I purchased years ago from etrailer. They did take me over the coals so to speak on the price. When I placed order in Sept. 2021, they were full price. I had to wait until March 2022 till them came in. When I received email in March, confirming card numbers to pay, or to cancel order, I never looked at current prices. I was charged old price, which cost me $XX.XX more. That was the Thank You for waiting and being a customer. Buyer beware to check price of back orders before confirming with card when order comes in.

I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you. If the price of the part on our site lowers within 30 days of purchase then we will credit you back the difference.

I needed new tires for my Vermeer BC600XL Chipper. It’s an odd size, and not all that common. But had them And the price for the tire and wheel combo at, being less than what I could find, just for tires from other companies…. And a far better tire!!! And delivery was quick and on time. Thank you etrailer.

I looked at the local farm store for the 215/60-8 tires. They had a cheaper tire with less plies and no options. I got better tires and rims for the same money delivered to my door in a few days.

I always try to support our local businesses, but in this case they snoozed and lost while I won. They did not have the product I needed and could order it so I figured if I was going to order and wait, I may as well check on-line. I got a better product for essentially the same money. It did delay me by several days, but it was well worth the wait. No mounting fees, no valve stem fee, upgrade from a load range "C" to "D" and I did not even have to spend the fuel to go to town and wait for the service center to take care of my tire problem. My comfort factor is now very high with taking the trailer out and about for use.

Very Happy Camper -Well satisfied

I looked all over the internet and these are the only replacement tires I have found or my Vermeer 6 inch chipper. These are great highway tires and are HALF THE COST! My tire goes flat my chipper is on the side of the road and no tire shop ,specialty tire shop tractor supply can help me find a tire even close. Vermeer wants me to pay well over $120 a tire for a tire that HAS AN INNERTUBE making repair impossible. These are tubeless tires and can be repaired. Thank you e-trailer for being the one source for my chipper tires. -That1TreeGuy

Very nice wheels and tires. Although it took about 5 months for them to arrive after the order was placed.

This is a great caring company. In these times of companies having trouble finding employees, Etrailer went over and above to get my order shipped to me. I have ordered from etrailer before and I will continue to support them whenever I require their products. They are a standup company.

They have been great wheels and tires so far. Have my trailer in my heated garage checking the tires and wheels over right now. Getting ready to load my snowmobile up.

Seems to be good quality product. No is sues

Tires and rims look very nice on trailer!
performed extremely well!
I would recommend this set of tires and rims!

Couldn’t find tires in any stores and they had the exact ones I needed I love that the rims are galvanized. Fast shipping too!

These tires are a good value and have given me great service in the past. I especially like being able to buy a load range D tire from etrailer. It seems like the tires used by OEMs have little excess weight carrying capacity. Going to a higher load rating gives me a little "extra margin" of safety and ultimately results in a longer life. The tires/rims sold by etrailer always ship quickly and arrive on time.

Perfect. Still no leaks no wear and no rust. Nothing, just what we all hope for in a trailer tire.

Very pleased with the purchase I made from order arrived a day earlier then scheduled and the wheels and tires are in excellent condition as is the safety chains and tongue coupler I will definitely order again from this company

Excellent product.. Quick shipment!

Excellent product at a good price point. Prompt free delivery sealed the deal. I have made purchases from this company with great results including technical videos and support.

I needed a set of heavy load tires for my 7x12 atv trailer. I found these and could not believe the price which included the rims. Very happy with my purchase.

Great product. I use these in my ATV trailer and have never had an issue on asphalt or rough roads. They hold air pressure well during season changes.

great to buy bfrom

Good value

Super fast shipping and wouldn’t buy trailer parts and such from anywhere else , be testing the new tires on the trailer on a trip to Northern NH from MA on my ATV’s , already replaced bearings from etrailer, great people !

Great service

I dont use anything else this tires are great good stability able to handle the weight

tire and rim better price than just tire at local tire store

quality parts very friendly sales staff !

Best pricing and service. Very fast delivery, packaging was excellent...... I would definitely recommend Etrailer for your trailering needs

  • Speed Rating for a Kenda 215/60-8 Bias Trailer Tire on a Trailer Carrying a Harley Davidson
You will want to stay within the limits of the posted speed limit for sure but if you are using our tires they are rated for 65 miles per hour maximum unless otherwise stated on the tire itself. So, on the highway you can go as fast as you are comfortable traveling up to 65 miles per hour. I have included a link to our trailer tire FAQ article for you to view. Other things to consider are the increased weight and momentum associated with towing. If the trailer has electric brakes I recommend...

  • What is the Backspacing of Trailer Tire and Wheel Combo AM3H325
The overall width of the wheel in tire and wheel combo # AM3H325 is 8 inches. The inner width where the tire sits is actually 7 inches. Since this wheel has a zero offset the backspacing is going to be 4 inches. The tire width is 8-7/8 inches overall making half of that 4.43 inches or 4-7/16. I made a video for you as well explaining these measurements.

  • Speed Rating of Kenda Wheel/Tire Combo # AM3H325
The vast majority of trailer tires are rated for a maximum speed of 65 mph. Consistently running at higher speeds causes heat build-up, which can dramatically shorten the life of the tire. If you click the provided link, you can read our Tire FAQ article which you might find helpful.

That depends on the stud size of the hubs you plan to install the Kenda Wheel and Tire # AM3H325 that you referenced. There are several different wheel stud sizes available. • Could a Smaller Wheel and Tire be Installed on a Trailer for Storage Height Clearance
A rim like the part # AM3H325 could potentially work for you if you don't have brake assemblies on your axles. This would be just as wide as your current setup but would be almost 9 inches shorter. This rim has the same bolt pattern as your current wheels as well and the weight capacity is 1,165 at 70 psi which is most likely much lower than you current setup so you would need to be aware of that as well.

  • Replacement Wheel and Tire 215/60-8 Bias For Snowmobile Trailer
As long as you have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern on your trailer hub the part # AM3H325 would be a great choice for you. This wheel and tire setup has a capacity of 1,165 lbs at 70 psi. The galvanized wheel would be great for preventing corrosion from salty roads. Since this is snowmobile trailer there's a good chance you will be towing through snowy and salty roads. I attached a review video for this wheel and tire for you to check out as well.

  • Does Tire Pressure Affect Trailer Tire Weight Capacity
To get the full capacity of your trailer tires they have to be inflated to the max psi rating that's on the sidewall of the tire. Otherwise the tire capacity is diminished and excess heat can build up. If your tires are rated at 1,165 lbs that means that with two of them you have a total of 2,330 lbs in tire capacity. You have to also figure in the weight of your trailer as well as the ATVs. The speed rating for the tire will be listed on the sidewall as well.

  • What is the Actual Load Capacity of Kenda 215/60-8 Trailer Tire/8-Inch Wheel # AM3H325
Thank you for the photo of your utility trailer. You are correct that if a tire itself and a wheel itself each carry different load ratings the combined wheel-with-tire will have a rating equal to the lower-rated of the two parts. As it happens in the case of the Kenda 215/60-8 Trailer Tire/8-Inch Wheel # AM3H325, both the tire and the wheel share a common maximum load rating of 1165-lbs, so this is the load rating of the combination, part # AM3H325. • Can Smaller Tires be Added to Boat Trailer to Lower Height
The current 175/80-13 size tires on your boat trailer have an overall diameter/height of 24.1 inches and a width of 6.9 inches. The smaller 215/60-8 tires that you mentioned will certainly be smaller in height with a diameter of 18.3 inches, but will actually have a larger width of 8.5 inches. Going to this smaller size will definitely help lower the trailer, but you will just want to make sure you have the necessary clearance on the trailer for the wider tire. Another factor you will...

  • Are Trailer Wheel/Tire Combos Balanced at Factory
The wheel/tire combos we carry aren't balanced at the factory. When the tire is mounted to the wheel, the high (heavy) spot on the wheel is matched to the low (light) spot on the tire, which leaves the wheel and tire somewhat balanced. You may have the wheel/tire professionally balanced if you wish, but having perfectly balanced tires is not as important with trailer tires as it is with a passenger vehicle, since there's no steering axle. Due to the more rudimentary suspension, trailers...

  • Could 8 inch Wheel and Tire Fit In Place of 15 inch Wheel and Tire
As long as your trailer axles do not have brakes on them the Kenda 215/60-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" Galvanized Wheel # AM3H325 that you referenced will fit on your hubs since it has the same 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. The pilot diameter of this wheel is a bit smaller though at 2.8 inches so you might measure to make sure this diameter would fit over the center portion of your trailer hub.

  • Maximum Speed for 8-Inch Balloon Tires
If the tires are new, they should have a listed speed rating, which normally either appears in the form of a letter or is written out as "Speed Rating: #." For instance, the letter M signifies a speed rating of 81 mph. I've attached a helpful article about trailer tires, which includes information about speed ratings. If the tire has no maximum speed rating listed, then the manufacturer did not speed rate the tires, and the maximum speed is typically defaulted to 65 mph.
