Determining the Bolt Pattern
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the Lionshead 14-inch by 5-inch glossy black Margay aluminum trailer wheel. It's a 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now, this is an aluminum wheel. It's durable, lightweight, and rust proof.
And we mentioned it's the Margay series, which you can see is a five-spoke design, has a nice glossy black finish, and then they do a machined edge on the spokes and on the lip to get it shine. They do use an automotive grade clear coat finish on the front, helps protect from scuffs and scratches. If you notice right over here, the valve stud is included. It's pre-installed on the wheel. Now, the center cap is not included.
If you do want a center cap, we do sell those separately on our website. You do wanna make sure to get a center cap that'll have the same diameter as this pilot hole here 'cause when you install your center cap, it'll go through this hole. Diameter on this pilot hole is 3.19 inches. This wheel does meet the DOT Department of Transportation specifications and the SAE J1204 standards. A few dimensions on this, we're gonna measure the diameter and the width.
And when you measure the diameter, it's always measured inside to inside. So basically, if we put our tape measure on there, you'll be able to see there's your 14-inch diameter. The width, same way is gonna be inside to inside or bead seat to bead seat. There's your five-inch width. And the bolt pattern on this wheel is a 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern.
If you wanted to measure that on a wheel, that's an odd number of lugs, like in this case, 5. What you have to do is pick one of the holes. Let's say this one. And then you're gonna measure across from this hole to either one of these holes right across from it. But when you measure it, it's from the center of the starting hole to the furthest edge of the hole that you measure to. So on this one, it'll measure 4 1/2 inches. So that's telling me this is a 5 lug, 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Does use a wheel lug size of a half inch by 20. And the weight capacity on this wheel is 2,200 pounds. But that should do it for a look at the Lionshead 14-inch by 5-inch glossy black Margay aluminum trailer wheel with the 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern.
