Westlake Radials

This radial ply tire from Westlake is constructed with double steel belts and cords for increased durability. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

So far so good. They have been on just a year and about 3000 miles. I had these same tires on as original equipment and changed them out at just under 5 years. the original tires had over 15,000 miles and the tread still looked great. I only changed them out because I hold pretty true to the 4 years of age change out rule. I probably could have ran the original set for 6 years with no problem. I am hoping I get similar performance out of this set.

by:

I needed a tire for my 2022 Cedar Creek 5th wheel fast. I always like to have a matching set. I went to etrailer, placed the order, and received my tire super fast. I was able to go camping as planned with my family. Thanks etrailer!!!

by:

15000 miles and no problems with "G" rated Westlakes. They were installed by the OEM when we purchased the 42', 16000lb, 5th Wheel. I have added TPMS and so far, no worries. The reason we ordered (2) new tires, we had a dual leaf spring failure and the tires didn't fail, but both rubbed on the frame and we are replacing them out of caution. I've owned China Bombs on previous 5th Wheels and like many, we suffered miserably the consequences of cheap tires. We started to go with Sailuns instead, but have had such great performance with these, we decided to stay brand loyal. RAH!

Over 20 thousand miles weve slowed down our travels this year and I am still very impressed with the wear and performance these westlakes have to offer. As the saying goes, nothing last forever and I will be replacing them soon with the same tires.

by:

Delivery time was excellent. Have not had tires mounted yet but everything looks great. Thanks

Great Only problem was finding a tire outlet that could mount the tire. I also would like to comment on your great service delivering the tire. Thanks

by:

Westlake tires are what came stock on my trailer from Kaufman. I have about 60K miles on my trailer and have only gone through 1 set of tires and the second set I bought has about 50% tread left on them. They perform well, last a long time and hold up to the heavy loads I place on them. I would say I am 100% happy with them!

by:

I replaced my tires on our 40' 5th wheel RV because the ones that came with it were 3 years old. They showed almost no wear even though we had crossed the country. I bought these tires because they are the same tire. The only caution I have for buyers is that the West Lake rims that go with these tires are very difficult for installers to dis-mount and mount on pneumatic tire machines. It takes two skilled mechanics to do it, and it is very easy for them to ruin the aluminum rims.

by:

Best tires we’ve ran for numerous trailers. Dump trailer, enclosed, etc. these have great longevity and perform well. Construction trailers take a beating, but these tires keep going and going. Etrailer has always delivered quickly and safely for us.

by:

Proven to be a great trailer tire.

by:

I can't say anything as far as wear or vibe as I have not pulled my RV with them on.
I will say that they had a 7 months old date code which is great in my book.

I have pulled my RV from Florida to Arizona with no issues.I do not see any cupping or wear. I do not cover them when parked like I probably should but I have heard the reviews of trapping the heat is just as bad a blocking the sun. Most of my RV sites keep the sun off 70 of the time so. I feel like Im going to change them out every 3 years for cheap insurance regardless.

by:

These Westllakes originally came on my 5th wheel and I never had a problem with them, so I'm going back with them again. The originals never lost air, no separation, or any defects at all. I'm only replacing because of age. I hope these hold up as good. etrailer was fast to ship them... only delay was because of a UPS problem that etrailer had no control over. I've ordered from etrailer in the past and their customer service is always top notch. The also stand behind their policies, which is really important when buying stuff like this online.

by:

I found the specific special trailer tires I had been looking for from etrailer. Heck, even the 'professional' tire companies couldn't order them for me, even though they handled Westlake tires!

Tires arrived on-time, but I did have a bit of an issue with getting them mounted onto the existing rims, but the problem was not with the new tires themselves, but with the "TYRON" inserts the existing tires had.

Two tire companies refused to do the mounting, but I finally found a tire repair company that apparently had the expertise to handle the job; KEN'S TIRES in Ridgeland, SC.

by:

Ordering was easy. Took two days to arrive from the time I ordered. Tires were fresh with a date of 0822 which was one of my concerns ordering online. Very pleased with the whole process. Replaced Westlake ST235/80/R16 with these. Had good luck with the G rated tires. Previous tires had 12k miles on them but a mfg date of 2018 so it was time.

by:

Great job tires are perfect!

by:

Put these on our dump trailer. Have really enjoyed these tires. Low wear, great weight rating, and overall good performance. Will buy again.

by:

Great service. I received the Westlake tire ahead of the estimated delivery date. I will definitely be back to look for anything I need.

by:

I put 6 of these on me 18k toyhauler. I have driven about 10k miles on them with zero issues. The tread still looks new. They are hard core heavy duty 5ther tires for a budget price. I swear these things weigh twice as much as the load E's they replaced. I will be buying them again when these wear our... which looks to be a long time from now.

by:

I don't have the tires on yet. But if there as great as the service was! I was told it would take two weeks for them to arrive, I GOT them in two days. Z Westlake TIRES with 5 year workmanship & road hazard guarantee

by:

The tires are good quality and are being used on a flatbed transport trailer for hauling smaller heavy equipment for cemetery operations at one of America's national cemeteries. Thank you ETrailer for your support of those who kept America safe, America's veterans.

by:

Specialty G Rated tire needed after broken spring. No-one locally could order one! etrailer responded to Google search for tire brand (Westlake) and model number! Excellent response by etrailer and shipped free, which is nice! Will return.

by:

Seems like it's a quality tire. Only issue I have that gave me a slight reservation about quality/durability is the extremely obvious seam where the tread was mated end to end to itself during construction. I don't recall ever seeing this on a good quality tire before.

by:

Just received the tires. Getting them mounted and balanced today. Teresa was great to deal with. Helped ensure that I got exactly what I was looking for. Tires were delivered quickly and in good looking order. I’ll update as I get some miles on them.

by:

Tire delivered sooner than expected. Appears to be in good shape. Thanks for having what I needed. Was not able to find this tire size at other web sites. This tire is replacing one on my camper that has worn like it is out of alignment. After the new tire is put on the camper is going in for an alignment.

by:

Good product selection; fast delivery; competitive prices. The best place to buy trailer parts.

by:

Excellant service, prompt delivery. It is a pleasure working with everyone at e-trailer.

by:

Fast service, it was a replacement tire for a blow out I had.

  • Maximum Tire PSI Rating for Lionshead 274-000011 16 x 6 Jaguar Trailer Wheel
According to Lionshead, their # 274-000011 16 x 6 Jaguar wheel can handle the pressure needed to inflate any tire that can be mounted upon it. The so-called weak link would be the valve stem. With a 110 psi tire such as the # LHWL410 235/85-16 load range tire mounted on the rim, you'd want to use the # AM20906 valve stem.

  • Tire Recommendation for Trailer Tire Size 235/85-16
Tire failure is usually caused by a few things. It can be from overloading the trailer, improper tire inflation, and/or exceeding the speed rating for the tire. You should verify that the tire capacity you have for you trailer is adequate for how much your trailer weighs. The pressure ran in the tires makes a big difference in longevity too. ST tires should be ran with the full pressure rating stated on the side of the tire, for full load capacity and longevity of the tire. If lower pressures...

  • Can Westlake Trailer Tires be Balanced
Trailer tires can be balanced but you should note that normally they are not. What happens most of the times is that the person mounting the tire will line up with light spot of the tire with the heavy spot of the rim and it gets the setup about as balanced as it can be. The problem with balancing the trailer tire is that it typically makes no noticeable difference in the vehicle that's towing the trailer, and since when a trailer is unloaded it can bounce pretty violently over bumps the...

  • Load Rating of Westlake/Lionshead ST235/85/R16 Tires
I can see where this might cause confusion. I went out to the warehouse to check the ratings for the Westlake ST235/85R16 Load Range G # LHWL410 and can confirm that they are rated at 4400-lbs at 110psi- they were at one point rated for 4080-lbs but have since been upgraded. It would appear that the Lionshead site is behind on their product updates. I've attached some pictures of the tire I took that show the specific tire and the load rating information on the side of the tire as a reference.
