Trailer Security Lock

You can lock your trailer coupler with a padlock, but it might not provide enough security to keep your trailer safe. A padlock can only be used to lock the coupler latch on your coupler, and to fit through the latch, the shackle on it has to be pretty thin. That means the shackle on a padlock is typically easy to cut.

The shackle on this wraparound lock is considerably thicker than a standard padlock shackle, making it harder to cut through. Also, because the shackle on this lock wraps around the head of your coupler instead of just fitting through the tiny latch, it just plain looks more secure.

The built-in ball on this lock engages in your coupler's ball socket, completely blocking the opening to prevent any tampering. The shackle fits over your coupler and ratchets down tightly and evenly. Because it ratchets on both sides, even if someone manages to slice through the shackle, it won't be enough to remove the lock. A (patient) thief would have to cut the thick shackle in multiple places to work it off of your coupler.

Simple Installation

To install this lock on your trailer:

Coupler lock installation

First, remove the shackle from the lock body and insert the built-in ball into your coupler's ball socket.

Coupler lock installation

Then, position the shackle over your coupler and line it up with the holes in the lock body. Push the shackle down, ratcheting it until it's snug around the coupler.

This lock can also be used as a general-purpose U-lock so you can lock down chains, secure doors, and more. To use this as a U-lock, just remove the ball plug plate and set it aside.

Fits good and locks down tight

by:

I’ve got these locks on all my trailers and only had 1 fail in the 15 years I’ve been using them.

by:

Very good transaction. Needed a lock with a wider opening for the shackle than others.

Fits very well and should add security

Product was great but the order almost didn't make it to me in its entirety. They shipped everything including the two hitch couples (heavy objects) in a small wimpy cardboard box that was all broken up with a 2 inch hole by the time it got here. The packaging (plastic) of the lock was also broken inside and it was a miracle that the keys got stuck inside one of the couplers or else they would have fallen out of the hole in the cardboard box. The cap was also there but could have fallen out. Zero packaging like bubble wrap etc. Come on guys you are professionals, I know you can do better than that... Zero stars on packing the order... nobody wants to deal with broken or missing items, let's do better next time.

This is my second Trimax trailer lock nothing wrong with first one but got two trailers now and not happy with the Reese lock not secure enough for me. The Trimax definitely a heavy duty quality lock.

by:

Simple to install. Liked the cover for the keyhole to keep weather and debris out. Great idea. Looking forward to years of service.

Nice product

I have 6 of these on different trailers. Great locks and provide good security for your average trailer.

by:

Better than some, price was fair. The lock cylinder doesn't feel like it will function well long term exposed to weather.

by:

The overall quality seems excellent! The locks work smoothly and will be perfect for my Ranger trailer and Seadoo trailer. I was also surprised to see both locks were keyed the same. A big plus in this case.

by:

Fits well on my trailer tongue. Easy to lock and unlock.

by:

After one year outside in all weathers, the lock still looks and works great.

by:

When not securing trailer tongue used to secure items in trailer.

by:

Best coupler lock in this style. Great value.

by:

I like this coupler lock. I wanted something that would "hopefully" deter people from wanting to "borrow" my trailer. It fits nice and snug!

by:

Very visible and easy to use.

by:

Received what I ordered. Thanks

  • Coupler Locks For 2-5/16" Trailer Coupler With a 4-1/2" Wide Flat Lip
We have a few options for your coupler with a 4-1/2" lip. The etrailer Trailer Coupler Lock # e98895 is a good lock. From there we move up to the better Trimax Dual Purpose Coupler Lock # TMX67FR which uses a hardened steel construction. The AMPLock Trailer Coupler Lock # AMP74FR is our best lock as it uses a cast iron construction and a rotating-disc-tumbler lock to prevent picking.

  • Can the Trimax Dual Purpose Coupler Lock and U-Lock be Keyed Alike
I do have an option for you but the Trimax Dual Purpose Coupler Lock and U-Lock part # TMX67FR isn't offered key alike. Therefore, if you order multiple they are likely to come with different keys. That said, we do have another very similar option for you in the Fastway Universal Trailer Coupler Lock part # FA86-0015-320 which does have a keyed alike option meaning you can order multiple and get the same key code. These are both universal surround style trailer coupler locks which fit 1-7/8",...

  • Best Coupler Lock Solution for Shocker Hitch Air Cushioned Trailer Coupler
Your Shocker Hitch Air Cushioned Trailer Coupler # SHK73RR uses an eZ-Latch coupler like what we see with the Demco # DM14040-81 so to secure this style of coupler I recommend using the etrailer Coupler Lock # e98888 when you have your trailer coupled to your tow vehicle, and then the Trimax Dual Purpose Coupler Lock and U-Lock # TMX67FR when your trailer is parked and unhitched. There are some more cost-effective solutions like the Curt Tri-Ball Trailer Coupler Lock # C48CR, but this...

  • Coupler Lock Recommendation for a Boat Trailer
Hey Anthony! I really like the Trimax Dual Purpose Coupler Lock and U-Lock for 1-7/8", 2", and 2-5/16" Couplers # TMX67FR because it can fit a variety of coupler styles and sies, plus it has the matte-looking finish on it which makes it look more intimidating than other coupler locks with this same style. While we all know that looks aren't everything, if the trailer next to yours has a weaker looking lock then odds are a would-be thief is going after that trailer first.

  • Does The Trimax Dual Purpose Coupler Lock # TMX67FR Lock Together When Not Attached to Coupler?
If you are referring to the U-bolt portion and the locking portion of the Trimax Dual Purpose Coupler Lock # TMX67FR then yes these should lock together when not on a coupler. Do note the portion with the ball type head does not lock to the bottom portion of the lock so it can move as seen in the image below. You will need to ensure the key is turned fully into the locked position.

  • Can Just The Ball Portion Of A Trimax Coupler Lock Be Replaced
Hi Robert, The ball portion of a Trimax coupler lock isn't currently an available replacement part so you'd need to either reach out to Trimax directly or completely replace the lock with another like part # TMX67FR or # TMX47FR.
