Worked great for my needs loaded a 2017 Viking on a 12 ft tilt trailer pulled the Viking on the trailer with no problems. Weights around 1450 lbs.

Still working great had to load my Dixie Chopper over the summer with it & it worked like a charm. Also loaded my Yamaha Viking around 1500 lbs give are take & it loaded with know issues. It would be nice if it came with a cover I have mine under a shed & keep it cover with a small bucket.

Application perfect match for purpose

I purchased this winch to replace the electric winch that burned up on my forest river tent trailer that would have cost me $400.00. With just some minor adjustments it bolted in place perfectly. I purchased a ridged 750 ft. pounds drill kit from Home depot for $99.00 and it lifts and lowers great.

I used the Dutton worm drive winch to erect a 38ft. high tower with radio antennas mounted to it. It worked great and added a degree of safety to the operation. We were working on the roof of a 10 story building and the winch allowed us to slowly and safely rotate the tower 90deg. from a horizontal position to vertical. If the tower needs to be lowered for maintenance, it will now be a one man job with this winch in place. Great product!

Great Winch for my NRS Raft Trailer. I use a cordless impact drill with it so it operates as an electric winch. Fantastic.

First off, is an OUTSTANDING online dealer with customer service that will impress - I promise.

As for this worm gear winch, I am very happy with it but I had to receive a replacement for the first one delivered. The material quality is excellent and functionally it is very smooth and sturdy. D&L may benefit from some quality control improvements. The first unit was not assembled (welded) well and the holes that carriage bolt (used to attach the cable) were out of alignment. This made it impossible to insert the bolt through the spool guides. Also, on the 'good' unit, the same holes left minimum clearance for the nut and bolt head which made tightening a challenge. You will need to place the nut between the spool guide and main gear (some video instructions suggest placing it outside the gear). One last observation - once the strap (DL24242) is installed, it rolls up in a cam shape as opposed to a smooth round circumference due to the carriage bolt that secures it to the winch. The mechanical advantage of the worm gear is significant so (even the weakest drill will easily wind it) I don't believe the out-of-round strap 'take-up' imparts any concerns.

All in all, I am happy with the purchase.

I selected the worm gear model because the take up handle did not interfere with my utility trailer jack. A conventional winch would not work. I selected the ratchet drive model for quick take up and release with my Dewalt 1/2 inch cordless drill. Great details for this winch from etrailer and Dutton-Lainson. Excellent American made product.

Everything was as advertised.

The wench I ordered works great. Couldn't ask for better. Had some delay in getting it put I wasn't in a big hurry anyway. I'll share more when the project is complete. You can bet I will use more often. Thanks, Ron

Great service & products

yes my wife name was on it but it was for me looks great and fast shipping also made in usa so its better built I will install it in the next few days its to lift and hold a wood floor door over my storm cellar door I needed this kind to mount to wall so will have something to do in the next few days and storm season is just about here the door is heavy so glad to find someone that sells something that will last thanks for getting it shipped fast and it a strong box

Great service! ordered my worm gear winch four days before Christmas and was delivered in two days to Alaska.

Used this winch on tower system to lift grates and pans for custom 20 ft. grill. Works out perfect. Great product! No lock system needed with the worm gear.

This is just what we needed. A positive forward and reverse, the worm gears keep it under control.

Really great, thank you!

Seems to work well

  • What is the Gear Ratio of the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch 2,000 lbs?
The Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch with Hex Drive Handle - 2,000 lbs # DL11004 has a gear ratio of 40 to 1. This will give you an excellent mechanical advantage, but it also is why a cordless drill attachment with 5/8 inch socket will make things much faster and easier.

  • Could a Drill Raise 2,000 lbs with the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch # DL11004
The capacity of the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch # DL11004 that you referenced is 2,000 lbs so your 18 volt drill would easily be able to operate the winch to raise 2,000 lbs as long as you have a 5/8 inch socket.

  • Can an Impact Driver be Used on the Dutton Lainson Hand Winch part # DL11004
The Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch part # DL11004 can be used with a power source like a standard cordless drill to speed up the process of extending and retracting the winch line. It is not recommended however to use an impact style driver on it however because of the impact mechanism putting alot of torque out repeatably and could cause issues with the drive of the winch. To use a regular cordless drill you will use a 5/8" socket attached to a driver attachment.

  • Winch Option that Can be Used with Power Drill
We have winches that can have power drills attached to them to make cranking a bit easier. For this, you'd want something like the Dutton Lainson Worm Gear Winch # DL11004 which does have the hex drive option.

  • Is there an Electric Winch with an 80 Foot Long Cable
I do have a solution for you but because you need such a long cable no electric winches will have the capacity for an 80 foot long cable. What I recommend is to use a worm gear winch with a hex drive, # DL11004. This will allow you to use an electric drill to power the line in and out. If you go with a 7/32" cable it can hold up to 82 feet of that size. However the longest 7/32" cable we have is 50 feet. So I can provide the winch just not a cable that long.

  • Is a Worm Gear Winch a Good Choice for a Flat Bed Trailer
You can use Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch with Hex Drive Handle - 2,000 lbs Item # DL11004 for your utility trailer. If you do I strongly recommend using a drill to reel in the line or let it out (worm gear winches do not have a free-spool mode) because otherwise it will move very, very slow using the crank handle. If the winch is to be mounted directly to the floor of your flat bed trailer then I do recommend a top-winding winch so you have more space to operate either the handle...

  • Dutton Lainson Worm Gear Winch That Can be Operated With Drill
I recommend going with the winch you mentioned, the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch with Hex Drive Handle # DL11004. It would work perfectly for your application and can be operated manually or with a power drill like you wanted. It also works with the Dutton-Lainson Strap # DL24242 instead of a cable so you'll be able to lift your kayak. I've added links to a pair of video reviews of these products for you to take a look at.

  • Weight Capacity of Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL11001 Using 1/4 Inch Cable
I do have a solution for you, however the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL11004 referenced in your question is actually designed for use with a polyester strap and not cable. For the Dutton-Lainson 2,000 pound hex gear hand winch that uses cable you will want part # DL11001 instead. This winch can definitely be used with 1/4 inch cable and the drum can handle up to 59 feet of it. For a winch capable of both pulling and releasing a 1,000-1,500 lbs. load up a 26 degree incline for a minimum of 40', a worm gear winch rated for 2,000 lbs. will work well for you. I recommend using the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch with Hex Drive Handle part # DL11004 in addition to the Hand Winch Cable with Safety Hook part # DL24045. For a winch strap that fits this hand winch, I recommend the Hand Winch Strap with Safety Hook, 2" Wide x 20' Long - 4,000 lbs. # DL24242. The type of manual winch I suggest for your car trailer is a worm gear type which prevents the car from rolling backwards even if you let go of the handle. The only types of winches we can recommend for hoisting like what you are wanting to do are the worm gear winches like the # DL11011 that you referenced. • Can Crank of Dutton-Lainson # DL14125 Hand Winch Be Operated With a Drill or Impact Driver
Dutton-Lainson doesn't recommend using a drill or driver to operate a standard winch such as the # DL14125. However, they do offer a worm gear winch, part # DL11004 that can be operated using a drill with a 5/8 inch socket. Because it's a worm gear winch, there's no need to worry about the winch spooling out or freewheeling if you lose your grip on the drill, which is a highly important safety feature. If you stop turning the shaft, the reel will stop in place. This winch is compatible...

The Dutton Lainson worm gear hand winch # DL11004 is a good choice for your specific application but since you need a 25-foot strap or cable I suggest instead their similar 1500-lbs-rated worm gear winch # DL11011. • Is there a Wire Rope/Cable that is Between 25 and 50 Feet Long for Dutton Lainson Worm Gear Winch
Dutton Lainson winch # DL11004 is designed to accept a strap and the longest strap available is 25 feet. Since that is not going to be long enough I recommend looking at a different worm gear winch such as # DL11001. However, the wire ropes for these winches go from 25 feet up to 50 feet with nothing in between. It is better to have too much line than not enough so if you go with this winch I recommend wire rope # DL24104.
