Video Transcript for Bargman Wiring - Trailer Connectors - 54-77-003 Review

Today we're going to be reviewing part number 54-77-003. This is the Trailer End 7-Way Connector from Bargman. You can see here that it's made from a durable ABS plastic construction. One of the great features about this particular connector, is it has the finger tabs right here. That's going to make disconnecting very simple and easy. This white piece here is a plastic insert that's designed to tighten up over the wires, which is going to secure the wires, but it's also going to help keep out any dirt or grime from entering the socket. The way that you would connect your wires, is you'll need to undo the set screw here.

That's going to allow the face to pop out of the socket and you'll need to loosen up the two screws back here to fit all the wires through. Feed those through, you're going to connect it to the back of the socket. Once you have this removed by undoing that set screws, it's going to expose some connection points here on the back of the face. Make your connections and then secure it back in place, tighten down the set screw, tighten up these two screws to close that plastic insert to keep anything out of the socket and the connection points. The overall length measuring from end to end, that's going to give us a measurement of about 3-/12 inches. Measuring to this point here, if I do measure to that center connector there, it's about 3-3/4 of an inch.

It's got the nice little tab up here so it's going to allow you to know how to enter this into your 7-way socket and then it's going to snap into place for a nice tight, secure connection. That's going to do it for today's review of part number 54-77-003. This is the Trailer End 7-Way Connector from Bargman. .

Your representative answered my questions before I placed my order. The part came in, looks like a match. I will keep you posted as to how it works out. Shipped out as told, received as expected.

We purchased these connectors as replacement stock for our numerous trailers as the connectors are always being damaged in the field. etrailer always has a large selection of new/replacement parts available with a very competitive pricing, good quality and quick turn-around and delivery. We have purchased from etrailer in the past and will continue to to buy from them in the future. etrailer Customer Service is always very helpful and always follows up to confirm delivery.

Product is constructed very well. Instructions were good and the YouTube version very helpful. However, the one thing I would recommend is that ignore the blue, white, etc. reference on the product and match the wiring to the receiving unit on your vehicle. I found an image for a 7 Way trailer connector and followed it. Everything works. I had previously tried to follow the color references on the unit but that did not work. I gave it 5 stars because once you have it wired correctly the unit itself fits the receiver very well and as I said everything works. Not to mention it is at a good price and shipping was prompt.

The folks at E-trailer are awesome. The part was exactly as described. There video made installation a snap, it took less then 10 minutes to remove the old part and install the new 7 pin plug end . Works like a charms . I will continue to buy all my trailer needs form E-trailer Because they always make it so simple!

I ordered these for my husband because he went to a local auto part store and they were prohibitively expensive. After a google search and finding these he is ecstatic because not only was the price far less, more importantly the quality is superior.

My husband said they’re holding up well and he is still happy with them

This connector is of hard plastic rather than the softer rubber. I think it will slide in and out smoother than the other ones. That means the set screw probably will not strip out as quick.

Connector still working great with absolutely no problems great product

great product and fast delivery. Although reasonably priced this wasn't the cheapest 7 pin trailer connector, but it has all brass electrical connections and has a screw cinch to keep the wires tightly in place and was definitely the best buy. The on online description (one of the best I have seen) was very clear and helped to select this over others. It shipped quick and got delivered sooner than I expected. Would highly recommend this product and this company.

The 7-way Connector is very good. I am currently using it to extend the building alarm to include a trailer.

- 54-77-003
by:

Well manufactured. Retainer method for seven blade insert leaves a lot to be desired, especially with wires so heavily insulated. In my opinion there should be three equally spaced retainer screws holding in place. We'll see what repeated pulling out the plug will produce over time...I have reservations.

Replaced the plug that came on trailer after it came unplugged (but not unhitched) while going down the road and got severe road rash. This one is actually a tighter and better fit in the outlet on the vehicle than what came from the factory. If I’d known, I would have replaced earlier and had much more reliable lights on the trailer.

E trailer did a fantastic job. Before order: Technical support / help was excellent. Goal, conversion of a 1998 Floe snowmobile trailer from surge to electric brakes. Problem, due to time and corrosion, I could only supply partial part numbers, spindle diameter. etrailer did a fantastic job, researching, and getting me the correct part numbers, so I could order. Julie did a great job. She was very timely, communicated clearly and honestly, and just “kept me in the loop”. I received the order came on the projected date, complete and undamaged. Excellent. I would highly recommend etrailer, for your part needs.

I thought is plug looked the best of the replaceable RV 7 way flat blade plugs etrailer carried. Overall okay, better than the Pollock plug on my trailer I replaced that had rusted all the terminal connections inside. Don't know if they new one will rust or not but I haven't been impressed with the Pollock brand. Wish the housing was a little more rigid.

It fits perfectly. Recommended and easy to install.

I pulled one of the Bargman 7-Way Connector, part # 54-77-003 and a piece of 10 gauge wire to see if it would work. Although the 10 gauge wire is tight when inserted next to the post on the back of the connector, I was able to get it to fit and tighten, so it will work just fine for you. I have included a short video that shows the 10 gauge wire being installed on one of the posts at the back of the connector.

Bargman has the 7-way plug part # 54-77-003 that you referenced that will plug right into the 7-way you have at the rear of your tow vehicle. The style of pins that your 7-way has is standard for 7-ways so you do not need a different style plug nor is there one available.

  • Troubleshooting Electric Jack Whose Light Works But Motor Does Not
Thank you for detailing the issue and the testing you've done for the electric jack. My suspicion is that the jack's plug has a weak ground connection. A weak ground will pass enough power for the jack's light to function but may not pass enough current for the jack motor to operate. This is not uncommon on trailers that are a few years old and which may have developed some corrosion on the plug contacts. Check the ground and +12V contacts on the jack's male 7-way plug. On your 1998 Toyota 4runner you can add the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7 this gives you a working 7 way and 4 way plug. These are the two most common plugs around and are very likely to be on any other trailers you may encounter. For that reason I also recommend switching your trailer over to a 7-way plug. This will mean most every vehicle will be able to haul it since they are the most common. If you were to leave it as a 6-way should you break...

This is a pretty common issue. Basically it boils down the plug on the trailer 90% of the time. Occasionally it is the trailer wiring but as you said you inspected it and it looks okay. I like to look right in the end of the plug and use a little screwdriver to bend the tabs inward slightly. This will make the connections tighter and it should recognize the trailer. • Trailer Plug to Replace Lance 7-Pin
Due to Lance having a proprietary plug, there isn't a plug-and-play adapter to go into the 7-way on your Ford F-450. So what you will need to do instead is cut off the Lance plug and replace it with a standard 7-way, the Bargman 7-Way Connector - Trailer End # 54-77-003. The only way to correctly wire a new 7-way plug and lead like the Hopkins # H20042 or 7-way plug like the Bargman # 54-77-003 is to determine the functions of the wires, and unfortunately there is no kind of universal color code to tell us what wires do what.
