Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Wiring - Trailer Connectors - 18004 Review

Today, we're going to review part number 18004. This is the Draw Tite 4-Pole Trailer End Connector. This is 12 inches long. It also comes with the 4 wire caps to attach it to the wires on your trailer. Basically, the standard 4-way wires would be the white for the ground, the brown for the tail lights, the yellow for the left turn and brake, and the green for the right turn and brake, so when you go to attach this to your trailer, you do want to test the wires using a tester to make sure you connect the wires function to function, because sometimes the colors will not always match up. A good thing to do is to use a tester that we sell separately on our website that you can use to test the wires and then hook these wires using the included wire caps. That should do it for the review on part number 18004, the Draw-Tite4-Pole Trailer End Connector. .

Great product no issues at all. Product as described & fit properly.

Landlord dog chewed up the wire harness and this new has being doing the trick ever since! (Over a year now)

Pretty straight forward. I used it to switch my European trailer's connection to be able to connect to my Wrangler's 4-pin trailer hookup.
No issues. works great.

The parts are still on my European trailer and working well! The trailer is a German brand and started its life there in Germany being pulled by my American-spec Jeep Wrangler. The trailer’s wiring and the Jeep’s connections needed to be massaged in order to work. The parts I ordered from etrailer and the writeups for the project on your site made it all possible. Now the trailer is titled and registered in Virginia and enjoying its life on this side of the Pacific!

The wiring harness worked great. I used it to connect a back up camera..Instead of fooling around with getting to the back up wires on the tail lights, I just clipped the harness to the wires on the back up camera(one live, one ground) and plugged that into my 4 pole trailer plug in the back of my pickup. when I turn on my headlights. it turns on the camera. It took all of 3 minutes to do that vs God no how long trying to disassemble and reassemble the tail lights to find a backup wire.

received the item in 4 business days, just in time to fix my trailer for commercial lawn service.

Never used wire caps before, they are great. My 4 pole trailer harness actually has 5 wires, to my surprise, and I was able to fit both brown (running lights) in the cap and it works fine. I did wrap it all up with electrical tape to be safe.

The video on installing the trailer hitch was very helpful to me. I was fooled by the Trailer End Connector. I assumed it was the wire connector that I needed to attach to my car, and there was no wiring instruction. So I struck out there. Fortunately I had someone who knew what they were doing help me to wire the proper connector to my car. Your service overall was fast and I did appreciate all the help we received from you. Perfect product. Great installation instructions. Now I need European adaptor to fit European trailer lights.

Great product easy to install don't care for the clips used my own connectors. E Trailer again exceeds all expectations. Thank You

I ordered the Hidden Hitch with a 4 prong flat blade plug-in, the cover and mount for the plug-in, which I installed on an '09 Hummer. The product seems to be well made, it installed easily and to my surprise it was delivered in two days. Thanks

Great value! Exactly like the original harness plug that came with the trailer 12 yrs. ago. Even comes with 4 wire taps to make a secure waterproof connection.

high quality, exactly as described. is a very useful and knowledgeable website.

It did the job, I soldered all of my connections followed by shrink tubing.

The quick connectors made replacing the old bad trailer connection quick and easy.

Needs butt connectors, not splitters.

Installed easily. I used my own butt splice connectors instead of the ones supplied with the plug.

Exactly what I expected and worked grea t.

No problems. Very happy with the product.

As ordered and delivered on time.

Working as expected, solid product.

Good plug assembly

Worked very well- good assembly

I was a little worried about ordering this product because the cost seemed cheap!
After receiving it in the mail I installed it right away and I have to say I am very impressed with the quality of the product.
The entire process from ordering to fast shipping was a great experience. Pricing and shipping was great and I would definitely recommend this store to anyone.

Fast shipping. Good packaging. Easy to install. Well made. All in all a great buy!

It really was easy to install. And it continues to work well after one year of use.

It took a little longer to get than expected, but it arrived in good condition. I have not plugged in the lights to check it out yet. Customer service was great...

The product was excellent and worked to perfection.

Great product. Hasn’t let me down yet!

Seems to be ok but the wire length is much shorter than expected. Will still work fine, just be ware.

  • Troubleshooting Lights on 2006 Palomino Tent Trailer
Either a bad ground or an overloaded trailer wiring harness on your vehicle could cause the issue you describe. Without knowing anything about your vehicle or which harness you are using its tough to narrow down the source for the problem. It could also be a bad voltage regulator or alternator on the vehicle. If you are using a powered converter that gets its power for the trailer lights from a direct battery connection then the more likely explanation is the bad ground. If you are using...

  • Determining If A 30 Amp Case Fuse Is Blown
On a square-shaped sealed fuse (case fuse) you typically do not have leads or contact points to test the fuse, as you mentioned. In this case, you usually can see through the top clear section to verify if the fuse is blown (separation of the internal circuit). If you cannot tell using this method, then you use a voltmeter on the lowest resistance (Ohm) setting and connect the two voltmeter leads together and record this reading. Then connect the two voltmeter leads to the contact points...

When a battery starts to boil that indicates that it's overcharging. This can from overcharging like if a vehicle alternator is bad or can be from a battery with a very high leak inductance which can cause the charger to put full current into the battery, causing the battery to boil and become a safety hazard.

  • Right Side Trailer Lights are Not Working But Vehicle Side Trailer Connector is Working
You have what is called a wishbone harness. A wishbone harness has two running light wires, one for each side of the trailer, but they are tied to the same pin on the trailer connector. The yellow/brown is running lights for the left side and the green/brown is running lights for the right side. Solid yellow is left turn signal/brake lights and solid green is right turn signal and brake lights. The white wire is the ground wire. Usually if some or none of the lights are working it is a...

  • Trailer Taillights Have Power at Light Connector And Light Bulb Will Not Light
If you are getting power to the light but nothing with the bulb it sounds like it has to be a ground issue. I thought it might have been a issue with the bulb connector but since you changed out the entire assembly it seems hard to believe that it would be the issue with both assemblies. I recommend checking the ground connection for the light for any built up corrosion. I have linked an article below that covers troubleshooting trailer lighting issues.

  • Troubleshooting Right Turn Blinker Not Functioning on a Trailer
It really sounds like the ground is not making good enough contact on the right turn signal/tail light and because of that it isn't able to draw enough amperage to illuminate the blinker function of your bulb. Nearly every time we encounter this problem the issue is just that the assembly isn't grounded enough. Make sure that the trailer side connector are clean and free of corrosion inside and out. The main connector grounds should be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal...

  • Why Would Trailer Lights Work With Ground Wire Not Attached Then Stop When Connected
Some trailers will actually end up grounding through the coupler, to the ball of the ball mount, to the hitch, and then to the frame of the tow vehicle. It sounds like that is what you trailer was doing. Did the lights ever flicker when you hit bumps? That's a tell-tale sign that the ground is being made through the ball mount. Did you have the trailer on the ball of your ball mount when you tested the trailer again? That could still be the way the trailer likes to ground and why it wouldn't...

  • Troubleshooting Brake and Turn Signals Not Working on a Cargo Trailer
It sounds like the grounds of light assemblies on your trailer aren't strong enough and the additional current required to illuminate the brighter circuit of your assemblies is too much for the current grounds. Check the grounds and make sure they are attached to a clean metal surface, a lot of light assemblies ground through their mounting points. Make sure the lights are attached to a clean metal surface in this case. I attached a couple helpful FAQ's that should help you further if needed.

  • Why Would Trailer Running Lights Partially Illuminate
LED lights only require a very small amount of amperage/voltage to partially light up. What you are experiencing is a little bleed through on your running light circuit. So somehow there is a small short between an active circuit on your trailer wiring and the running light circuit. Only way to fix that is to go over the wiring and clean up any exposed wire you find.

  • Troubleshooting a Weak Ground Issue on a Tent Trailer
First thing you need to do is thoroughly clean the trailer connector on your tow vehicle and trailer. Next, what I would recommend you do is check the ground strap that runs from the trailer connector to the trailer frame. I would make sure that wire is also making good contact to an unpainted metal surface. If you can't get your lights to ground decently to the trailer frame you can also run them both back to the main ground wire I just mentioned. I attached an FAQ on trailer wiring for...

  • Troubleshooting RV Tail Lights Not Working
This sounds like a classic case of a ground problem to me because all the other lights are working and you are getting power readings. A bad ground can cause all sorts of issues and for your brake lights only not working, so what I recommend is ensuring your ground wires are attached to bare metal surfaces and free of any paint, dirt or corrosion.

  • Left Turn Signal and Hazards Do Not Work on a 1975 Citation Camper and 2010 Chevy Silverado
Considering the age of the camper you may be dealing with a wiring issue to the lights that are not working. You would need to inspect the wiring and repair or replace any bad or questionable areas. It could also be a poor ground connection somewhere. Ground problems normally show up when there is more draw on a system such as when you have the running lights on and then use another function like a turn signal or brake light. • Finding and Repairing Poor Ground Connection on Trailer
What you're describing is the classic symptom of a poor ground connection somewhere in the trailer wiring on the vehicle or on the trailer. Everything works fine until you draw maximum amperage through the system by turning on the running lights. Check the ground connection on the vehicle where the trailer connector attaches to the vehicle frame or chassis. Make sure this connection is tight and not corroded. • Troubleshooting Right Stop/Turn Circuit Not Active on Trailer
Sounds like the stop/turn circuit for the driver side on the trailer has a short which is preventing just that circuit from activating. Trace the wiring from the 4-way connector back to the taillight assembly on that side of the trailer and most likely you'll find a cut or exposed circuit that needs to be fixed. • Troubleshooting a Trailer Right Brake Light Won't Function
It sounds like the problem is on the trailer and is ground related. I would inspect the grounds of the light assembly you have installed on the right side of your trailer and make sure it is connected to a clean metal surface. A lot of assemblies ground through their mounting hardware so you will want to make sure that the assemblies are connected to a clean metal surface. I'm not sure I totally believe that the problem is a lack of voltage. It's possible this is the case, but12 volts should easily power a camera designed for a standard 12 volt system. I would recommend taking the camera up near the vehicle battery and try powering the camera straight from the battery as this is where the voltage would be the highest. If the camera works here then it is voltage related. If not, then the camera is most likely defective. Now the reason for the voltage loss...

I tend to think it's a ground issue or potential short on your vehicle side wiring. Make sure that the vehicle side and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside and out.
