Video Transcript for In-Depth Review of the 6-Pole Square Trailer Wiring Connector Kit (Car and Trailer Ends)

Today we're going to review part number 37995, this is the Hopkins 6-Pole Square Trailer Wiring Connector Kit. You can see it has the square design 6-Pole on both connectors. It includes the male end, the male end is what would go on the trailer and includes the female end, 6-square end, which will go on to the vehicle. Basically the pigtail wires on each, they use an 18 gauge size wire. The length, give you an idea of the length on these, got a 12 inch ruler and basically you can see that you're about 12 inches in length on each one. Now basically what you would do is this one here, with the female end, this would connect to the vehicle, the tow vehicle, so you'd wire this in with the pigtail wires. This end, with the male ends, would go to the trailer, and again you'd wire those in.

Then basically all you would have to do is push that together, just like that, and you would have the six way connector. That should do it for the review on part number 37995, the Hopkins 6-Pole Square Trailer Wiring Connector Kit. .

Bullet-proof connector, if not the most elegant.

Used in my case for custom "adventurization" wiring on my 2007 BMW F800ST motorcycle, now just road tested this late summer - early fall 2017 on a three month, 18,000 mile loop out of Chicago through the Arctic & Pacific Northwest, including the Dempster & Dalton Highways.

Had a custom wiring harness that had to be able to be removed in order to get at the engine, hence the need for the connectors.

A few photos should be attached.

Item wasn't going to work. Would have to pay return shipping. May have to sell on Ebay to try to get some of my money back. etrailer should provide a return label.

by:

Very helpful. Fast service. They always have a solution!

This is a product that I needed for my project, but was not easily found and available. etrailer.com not only had the product, but had it at a great price. Shipping was very fast and free for the amount I ordered. Overall, this was a great shopping experience. I made a bulk order of 16 as I am manufacturing trailers that are towed behind motorcycles. This product gives me the six conductors that I need in a very small package, which is great due to the size of motorcycles compared to cars or trucks. The only thing that could be improved with this product would be if they came with dust caps for each connector, or at least one for the vehicle side to prevent dust and moisture intrusion while the trailer is not in use. Keep up the excellent service and selection.

by:

I needed to add a more convenient location to plug and unplug my backup camera on my 2015 Chevy. The camera harness was a 6-wire harness and this 6-way plug was just what I needed. Works perfectly.

by:

It was just what I needed

by:

It fit the trailer harnes great a little tight but it won't come off . It took a while to. figure out the bike

by:

I have a Coleman popup trailer w/ a 6-wire harness (no brakes). After receiving the Hopkins 6-wire plugs from eTrailer, I was able to create a conversion cable to "jump" my 4-wire tow vehicle plug lead to the 6-wire trailer plug. It works very well and I will be ordering other items from eTrailer.

Product works well and was just what was needed

by:

This product replaces several of types of connectors, e.g., cinch-jones and other 6 wire types. It will be used to connect model railroad show modules. I was looking for a reasonably rapid insertion and disconnect and good conductivity. Power is low power DC, so the wire is more than adequate. I also needed a reasonable drop so as not to strain the terminal strip (barrier) connection. These, I believe, will work well. I hope this helps.

The connector sets I purchased are for inter modular connection on a mobile model railroad. They are working very well. I would hope you might make a connector with more pins, e.g., 8 or possibly 10. I realize the trailer application requires only 6, but the ledger ones might find other applications.

The wiring kit I ordered has been a very hard to find item in the past. Luckily, I found it on etrailer, & it was identical to what my camper came with from the factory! Waiting & delivery was minimal, & I'll gladly order from them again.

by:

Did not use this as a trailer connector. I had to have a way to plug and unplug another device. This worked perfectly. The wires were long enough to stagger the splices and allow for a smaller diameter splice. Overall an excellent product.

The device I used this on is now installed permanently and no longer need to plug and unplug for relocation., The connector worked perfectly and never showed any signs of corrosion on the connectors even though it was exposed to the elements.

by:

Quick, exactly what I ordered

by:

Very convenient and quick delivery. Exactly what I ordered. Thx. Kathy

by:

I had great difficulty finding this 6-pin "Square" connector elsewhere. I was pleased that etrailer had it and the price was excellent. Delivery was prompt and the part was as advertised.

My only complaint is that the wiring "color code" did not match what I expected from the existing connector on my camper and other wiring diagrams that I had seen. This caused some minor problems initially. Though, I was able to work through it.

I'd certainly use etrailer again for similar part needs.

by:

Delivered in very timely manner. Very easy to install. Works great. Very happy with motorcycle to trailer wiring harness. It cleared up several problems I was having trying to mate the trailer to the motorcycle.

by:

Part came in as described. Was a perfect fit for my needs. Has worked very well. One small problem which we overcame is that the connector is very hard to totally connect and even harder to disconnect when the winter is over. The use of channel lock pliers took care of the problem. Being hard made them more water resistant which was a plus.

by:

This was exactly what I needed for a non-trailer application. I used a pair of these connectors for my antenna rotator wire connections so that I could disconnect them when I was moving the setup. The gauge of the stranded wire is substantial and easy to work with when stripping to make connections. Using it both under screws and soldering to other cables was easy. Color-coding matched the current cables. The two connectors might use a bit of light lubrication to more easy push together and pull apart.

by:

I recently needed a simple trailer plug for a motorcycle. I shopped for the product at a couple of major stores and could not find a six prong connector. I could have kept looking and probably found it but I went to etrailer.com and found it cheaper even with shipping than I could have bought it locally. Thanks etrailer

Dan

by:

Great FAST service and fortunately it was the correct size I needed.. bought the camper used with just pigtail.. Not quite as heavy of wiring I would like as my truck and camper are larger.. #10 or #8 on the power wires would be nice!
But for the price and it serves the tail lights well.. a fair deal... will be buying a decent 7 pin 10' jumper and do it right!

by:

I bought a motorcycle pull cart to pull behind our Miata. I looked all over Madison to find the right connection pieces. After being told it could not be done, I brought up your web site and found exactly what I needed. Your web site even had a video that I watched and learned from. Now I can travel Route 66 knowing my trailer lights will be working all the way to California and back. Thanks for the great product selection you offer and the efficient way the web site works in the ordering process.

by:

Works for my Arctic Fox truck camper.
The
battery feed line is small gauge(14) and if your drawing a lot of power from the truck this wire will easily be overloaded and melt. Run a separate wire if you need more than a few amps out of the truck.

by:

The wiring harness works great on my motorcycle trailer light plug in.

by:

This plug was a great fine for me. I needed to rewire the trailer plug on a small pop up camper my daugther had bought. The manufacture wanted $40+shipping for a factory pig tail. The was much cheaper and fit perfect.

by:

6 pin trailer harness is constructed with optimum gauge wiring. Length is excellent for installation on the GL1800. This product was installed on GL1500 and matching trailer. Tight snug connector fit, insures water-tight connection. A+

by:

Simple trailer plug. I needed a 6 pin and preferred a small square plug for my application, rather than a large round.
etrailer had just what i needed and at the lowest price
To my surprise, it even arrived quickly to boot

Yes, the Jayco trailers use a very unique wiring on their trailers. There is no adapter available that will go from a 7-Way vehicle side connector to a 6-Way square Jayco connector. On the 6-Way square connectors # 37995 they are more of a generic type of 6-Way square. The one in your picture looks like the infamous Jayco 6-Way like what is found on adapter # 30104. But you need the opposite end from what is on this adapter. What you will need to do is remove the 6-Way connector you have and wire in something common in its place. Since you already have # 37995 you could use it, or at least the half that you need. Then wire the other end to the connector type that you need.

The 6-way has a 12v hot pin and brake output pin and the 5-way only has a reverse lock out pin so you'll have to decide what function you want to lose and wire the pins as needed.
